This is a gentle, yet effective cleaner so it won't harm your items, but gives great results and it is very easy to use. I just put my ring into the basket inside the jar and swirled it around for 90 seconds, as recommended. It comes with a brush so I used that while rinsing my ring with water. That was it! Like any chemical product, it does recommend you to keep the product out of the reach of children since it does contain ammonia. It also warns "DO NOT USE on coral, ivory, amber, malachite, pearls, opals, jade or turquoise". I bought this for $3.49 on Alice.com, but have not seen it in any other stores as of yet. Wrights silver cream is a highly effective product! It is a cream not a liquid. No phosphate chemicals. Mild, no odor, Comes with sponge for easy application. Rub polish using sponge on silver, rinse with water, dry and buff with a clean cloth. Easily removed tarnish from silver candy bowl. Paste was easy to apply versus some of the liquid brands we have used. Does not damage, pit, or harm silver. It will not remove the pitted areas, it cleans up the tarnish from corrosion, but there are other tools needed for like super deep corroded areas. Wrights silver cream easily cleans off dirt and sweat from jewelry and tarnish from silver products. My grandmother used to use Wrights on her steal refrigerator! I have used a small soft bristle toothbrush as an applicator as well as an old T-shirt. My most favorite cleaning fabric is actually Wright’s Gloves – gloves that are like towels in texture infused with silver cleaner. So easy to wear, dip into the cream, and scrub away tarnish. On larger pieces, I first soak the item in a dish tub lined on the bottom with aluminum foil. Then I add a mixture of white vinegar, baking soda and water to soak the tarnish off. It’s kind of fun to see how much tarnish is left actually on the aluminum foil! After soaking, I use Wright’s silver cream on the remaining tarnish which it super easily takes off and leaves a beautiful shine. The first two things I noticed on the label of Wright's Silver Cream was the Good Housekeeping seal and made in the USA. My last silver tarnish remover was a liquid and rather messy, so this time I was looking for a cream. I didn't realize that it comes with its own applicator sponge which is important because of the softness of application. What I had not realized either was it has multiple uses, not just all kinds of silver and flatware, but pewter, chrome, fiberglass, and porcelain. The fact that it cleans and polishes the chrome finish on some of my appliances is fantastic because I can never seem to get them back to looking new. I found the smell of the polish to be very pleasant, unlike the harsh ammonia smell of the liquid I had been using previously and on the label, it states that it is phosphate free. It goes on very easily and into all the tiny crevices and rinses off clean. After buffing with a soft cloth, I was amazed by the brilliant shine returned to my silver and how the chrome on my toaster oven looked brand new. As a silver restoration and conservation specialist, I have many years of knowledge about Tarn-X. I routinely receive objects for refinishing due to damage from this horribly destructive product. Tarn-X works by dissolving the tarnish (and silver!) on an object at an accelerated rate. Tarn-X will quickly remove factory-applied patinas (if left in the solution for more than a few seconds) or gradually (if dipped quickly each time the object requires cleaning). You'll notice a soft white surface develop over time. Tarn-X will quickly strip the shine from silver, leaving a dull, lifeless appearance. Tarn-X will cause pitting of the object's surface. These surface defects will act like a sponge and more readily absorb tarnish-producing gases and moisture. The object will eventually require professional polishing to restore the original finish. I grew up using Hagerty's Silver Polish as that was my grandmother's go-to product. That product was the only one I knew of for cleaning silver. But I had been running low and thought that the only place to buy more was at a jeweler's. I was pleased to find this alternate product at Canadian Tire. It seems to do a fine job – perhaps removing the tarnish on silver even faster. Beware though, it is a clear and runny liquid (unlike Hagerty's thick pink sauce). So take care not to spill it. I used this to clean my diamond ring & it has never sparkled more. It seems other people have noticed too because I suddenly get more compliments on it & someone who knew me asked specifially if I had it cleaned. This is a gentle, yet effective cleaner so it won't harm your items, but gives great results and it is very easy to use. I just put my ring into the basket inside the jar and swirled it around for 90 seconds, as recommended. It comes with a brush so I used that while rinsing my ring with water. That was it! Like any chemical product, it does recommend you to keep the product out of the reach of children since it does contain ammonia. It also warns "DO NOT USE on coral, ivory, amber, malachite, pearls, opals, jade or turquoise". I bought this for $3.49 on Alice.com, but have not seen it in any other stores as of yet. This is a professional-grade coating to seal a metal surface in order prevent oxidation/corrosion. It is not particularly resistant to abrasion but stands up well normal jewelry wear. It IS a coating so its suitability for fine chains is problematic if there is a need for flexibility in the chain. For the same reason avoid use on hinges and moving parts ( it possible that thinning the product may work but a thinner coating will be more susceptible to penetration of moisture etc. The product arrives in metal containers- DO NOT store it in plastic containers since the product may degrade it! Instruction are included with the coating and are also available online. THEY MUST BE FOLLOWED EXACTLY AND IN ORDER. NOTE: You will need fresh Xylene solvent ($10 a quart at Ace hardware etc.). It is used as a final drying agent prior to coating and for cleanup as well as a solvent for removing the coating if needed. You will also need some baking soda to dissolve ( 1/3 cup per quart) in the final rinse of Mexican and other antique silver to remove dissolved chlorene in use by many municipalities to kill agents of disease in their tap water. This coating is the only thing I've found that will prevent antique and Mexican silver from immediately tarnishing after cleaning.wcs2872
