4. The Last Kids On Earth: Max Brallier – Book

Product Details:
The simpsons meets the walking dead in this hilarious post-apocalyptic graphic novel for middle-grade readers. ever since the monster apocalypse hit town, average thirteen year old jack sullivan has been living in his tree house, which he's armed to the teeth with catapults and a moat, not to mention video games and an endless supply of oreos and mountain dew scavenged from abandoned stores. but jack alone is no match for the hoards of zombies and winged wretches and vine thingies, and especially not for the eerily intelligent monster known only as blarg.
Reviews:
I bought this for my 8 year old son with the hope that it would grab his interest enough to help cut back on his desire to play video games constantly. This book really did the trick. He couldn’t put it down and finished it in a few days. It’s gross in a kid-appropriate way, very silly, and thoroughly entertaining. Definitely worth the purchase!SLCont
My daughter discovered and loved the TV series on Netflix (clearly advertised on the book covers). I recently found out it was initially a book series, which made sense, since I also watched it with my 11-yo, and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it myself! The books arrived beautifully presented, just with a cross of plastic to protect and hold the set together. They were all in perfect condition, and we started reading the books right away — my daughter being bicultural, her English is not yet where it could be at, what with her attending a French school rather than a British one… so we read together and I make her watch everything I can in English. This is American but luckily the British publisher used British spelling throughout, which is particularly important in our case! She is absolutely loving these books, and I am thrilled to see how much help it was to watch the series in English and then read the books. Esp. because the series closely followed the events of the books, which was another great piece of news! So anyway, I highly recommend this very affordable set, which is surprisingly well written, witty, laugh-out-loud funny, and highly enjoyable on the whole.A V. H. R.

I would definitely recommend this for people who like adventure, excitement and mystery. This book is up in one of the best books I've ever read. This book is the GOAT of all books.Budah
Originally reviewed on Just Me My Books. The book follows Percy, who ends up vaporising his maths teacher on a trip to a New York museum, and no one seems to notice. When he is expelled from yet another boarding school, his mother treats him to a weekend at the beach, even though it looks like a hurricane is about to descend on them. It's only on the arrival of Percy's friend Grover do they realise something is wrong and that a Minotaur is after Percy. Soon, Percy arrives at Camp Half-Blood and learns that he is a Demigod – half human, half god. After being recognised by his father, one of the three gods who vowed they would not have any more children, Percy finds out he is being blamed for stealing Zeus' master lightning bolt, and so is sent on a quest to retrieve it from the Underworld before the Summer Solstice, in order to prevent war on Mount Olympus. With the help of his Satyr Grove and fellow camper Annabeth, they discover that the gods have more to worry about than Percy being the son of a powerful god, and that Kronos maybe trying to make a comeback.victoria.k
My Appraisal of the book Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief Written by Rick Riordan If you were wondering about this book and can't decide if you want to read it, I read it and maybe this will help you decide. This book tells the first story of the Percy Jackson Series. The story is mainly based on Greek mythology but with a modern twist. Read about the marvelous first adventure of main character Percy Jackson (a teen from Manhattan) and his friends as they fight monsters and try to keep peace between the Olympian gods. This story is full of action and adventure and will keep readers wanting more. This story won't let you down, except that there is more in the series, and you haven't read it all. yet. I highly recommend this book. Opinion of the Tome GuyThe Tome Guy

I love the Percy Jackson and the Olympians book series. I started reading them in third grade. The characters are for the most part likable and relatable and the mythology aspect of it is interesting and helped in some of my World History classes. I would recommend to any middle schooler.
I fell in love with these books years ago, and I quickly read every single one that was out at the time. This was different than the others in ways, but still good. Percy and Annabeth are such a good pair, I could read book after book with them as the main characters. If you have read the first few, definitely keep reading, they get better and better!victoria.g

13. Mercy Watson To The Rescue [Book]

Product Details:
From the one and only kate dicamillo comes an irresistible new hero for early chapter book readers, brightly captured with comic nostalgic flair by chris van dusen.to mr. and mrs. watson, mercy is not just a pig – she's a porcine wonder. and to the portly and good-natured mercy, the watsons are an excellent source of buttered toast, not to mention that buttery-toasty feeling she gets when she snuggles into bed with them. this is not, however, so good for the watsons' bed. boom! crack! as the bed and its occupants slowly sink through the floor, mercy escapes in a flash – "to alert the fire department," her owners assure themselves. but could mercy possibly have another emergency in mind – like a sudden craving for their neighbors' sugar cookies? welcome to the wry and endearing world of mercy watson – an ebullient new character for early chapter-book readers in a series that's destined to be a classic.
Reviews:
Mercy Watson is a fine addition to the cannon of early readers. It's funny and fun! Mercy is a pig who lives with Mr. and Mrs. Watson, who treat her as more a member of the family than a pet. When Mercy decides one night that she's too afraid to sleep alone, she crawls into bed with the Watsons. When the bed starts to sink through the Watson's floor, It's Mercy who runs off to find help – sort of! You simply cannot wait to turn the page and find out why Mercy's doing what she's doing and how it's going to end. The plot twists are fun and logical, while matter-of-fact and unexpected. The illustrations are utterly charming. It's recommended for readers 6-8, but it really is fun for the whole family. I can't wait to see what Mercy will do next!
Cute story! Mercy Watson is definitely a new favorite!Books-A-Million
The Mercy Watson books are absolutely fantastic. Loved by all my family from the 15mth old baby to my six year old daughter. Each page has bold, beautiful illustrations which are great fun for the younger children to be adsorbed in while the older children are literally laughing out loud at the adventures of mercy. The author has used some very clever, punchy lines which I often hear repeated in our home, making for some very funny situations. I love these books and they are cleverly, but simply written which makes them great reading practice for my older daughter also. This the first in the series is the unmissable introduction to how this pig thinks!Debbie-Anne
14. Never After: The Thirteenth Fairy [Book]

Product Details:
*a b&n young reader monthly pick! **finalist in the 2021 goodreads choice awards! **a new york times bestseller! *discover a new middle-grade fantasy saga perfect for fans of the land of stories series from the #1 new york times bestselling creator of the descendants, melissa de la cruz, where real life and fairy tales collide! nothing ever happens in filomena jefferson-cho’s sleepy little suburban town of north pasadena. the sun shines every day, the grass is always a perfect green, and while her progressive school swears there’s no such thing as bullying, she still feels bummed out. but one day, when filomena is walking home on her own, something strange happens. filomena is being followed by jack stalker, one of the heroes in the thirteenth fairy, a series of books she loves about a brave girl and her ragtag group of friends who save their world from an evil enchantress. she must be dreaming, or still reading a book. but jack is insistent—he’s real, the stories are real, and filomena must come with him at once! soon, filomena is thrust into the world of evil fairies and beautiful princesses, sorcerers and slayers, where an evil queen drives her ruthless armies to destroy what is left of the fairy tribes. to save herself and the kingdom of westphalia, filomena must find the truth behind the fairytales and set the world back to rights before the cycle of sleep and destruction begins once more.
Reviews:
t is a fun, light read meant for a fairly young audience but I still enjoyed it. I could kinda relate to Filomena and being obsessed with a series of books, waiting excitedly for the next one to come out. I still am that way sometimes. The world of Never After was really interesting, especially when it began to bleed out into the real world. I think this world could use a bit of magic like Never After, but no ogres though! All the fairy tales are mixed up together in this book, from Jack the giant killer (the hero of course with cool vines!), to Aladdin's lamp (and flying carpets), Scheherazade, and even Gretel and the wolves of the wood (cool bikers and not at all the villains!). Filomena of course learns that there is more to her than expected and grows into her role (as expected from a middle grade novel). As this is just the start of a series, it does have a fairly open ending that leads right into the next book.LadyKrystal
Never After is the first book in a new fantasy series. It's perfect for middle grade or upper elementary school readers, or as a light YA or adult read. Filomena, the main character is beloved by her parents but bullied at her California middle school. She visits the bookstore after school to purchase the thirteenth and final installment in her favorite book series, Never After, and finds out, not only is the book not available, it's never going to be released. Walking home disappointed, she finds she is being followed by Jack Stalker, the main character in the Never After series. Filomena is thrown into a world of fairytales, magic and an epic battle between good and evil. Filomena is a brave, clever, witty protagonist who grows in wisdom and strength throughout the story. Never After is imaginative, fast moving and fun, and often laugh-out-loud funny. I liked the interesting characters, non-stop action, and how it moves between the modern and fairy-tale worlds. It is a great addition to the middle grade fantasy genre. #BookishFirstlurkykitty
Never After is a middle grad fantasy read that is utterly charming! It follows the story of Filomena, a whip smart kid who lives a shielded life from her over protective parents. When the final book in the fantasy series she is obsessed with is supposed to be release she ends up meeting Jack, and actual character from the book. Before she knows it she is thrust into the world she has been reading about all these years. From the very first page, the author's writing style is whimsical and laugh out loud funny! It is the absolute highlight of the book for me, I was completely enchanted by her prose. Filomena and her quirky sidekicks are fun and vulnerable characters that you can really root for. The different take on the classic fairy tale characters was interesting too. This series is sure to appeal to fans of Rick Riordan and kids who like to have a good laugh.Buffynpoo

Reviews:
I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of Nancy Clancy: Super Sleuth Book One which I finished in about thirty minutes. It was a swift read where Jane O' Connor leads me into the world of Fancy Nancy's adventures as an aspiring detective. I admit I am not much of a children's book read anymore. I remember loving the Junie B. Jones series as a child and Nancy echoed some of Junie's quirks in the best possible way. Fancy Nancy has her brand of brimming curiosity and vigor trailing her wherever she goes. Fancy Nancy is fun. She loves her flashy pink trenchcoat reading Nancy Drew and conjuring up secret codes with her best friend. She reminds me of my own childhood in love with secret codes and passing notes (I learned sign language from a picture book in third grade because it was the fad…in third grade. Who likes to be left out if your friends are talking about you?) Connor brings out Nancy's charms flawlessly. While Connor weaves in the two mysteries seamlessly the story ends up jumbled together. The denouement read like a race to the finish. The ending was not as predictable as I thought which was a definite plus. Perhaps its because I haven't read a Fancy Nancy book before that I was still a stranger to the supporting characters: Bree the twins her younger sister. I had no idea who the twins were to Nancy; were they friends or just neighbors? What are they doing in her room? Why is she in their yard? The book was well paced and raises good moral messages: tell the truth (it will make people less furious with you when you break their stuff) and don't jump into conclusions and blame your peers. Overall a pleasant read though not quite memorable. I can imagine the eight year old me devouring and befriending the fun quirky Fancy Nancy in no time.noveltoybox
