I have been using this product for 2 years. It removes a sulfur smell and taste from our water. I replace it every year. Easy on and off, no tools, no leaks, done with one hand! A little pricey but worth it.Mike

I ordered 2 different types of filters at the same time. They entered them as 2 separate orders. I was impressed with how quickly the 1st order was delivered, within 2 days. The 2nd order however has not arrived yet. Go Vets noticed that it hadnt delivered (without any prompting from me), followed up with the supplier and then informed me it was back ordered. Found this to be the best as it removes as small as .5 micron, it removes the chlorine from the water, we use with a metal resin remover. The drinking water tastes better and is good value for money.pj2737

We were having problems with residue coming from the hot water heater . We treat our water with peroxide because our 85 foot well fifteen of it into bedrock has way too much iron and sulphur in it . The peroxide and heat is causing the calcium in the water to become colloidal . Once this colloidal calcium hits the air it flocculates and becomes an abrasive residue . These Pentek filters have been successful at filtering out this colloidal calcium and consequentially the water quality is greatly improved !westsachsenschall

I was very pleased with the performance of this whole-home water filter relative to my previous water filter, which is from a different brand. First the water filter fit perfectly in my unit as promised. After a little while, I noticed that my flow rate was slightly improved after installing this filter. My water system (private well) has a very high iron, manganese and sediment content, and this filter did an excellent job filtering. There was no off-color after installing this filter and no detectable odors. The only thing I cannot comment on is the longevity as it will take a few months to determine that. They fit really well and I love that it's a 2-pack! There's no weird charcoal taste like I've experienced with other filters before. These filters reduce Chlorine taste and odor while also reducing sediment. The filter is easy to install, no special bells of whistles or hoops to jump through. Pretty much anyone can do it! Even me! Whirlpool is a trusted brand and my family has never had issues with their products. I love they also give an option to sign up for a filter change reminder on their website. I've used these filters and find them superior to others in both longevity and filtration ability.I use as the initial filter and then feed its output to an identical second filter housing using a fine particulate secondary filter.after trying several brands and types I have settled on these for my household-well pump water system. We ordered this on 01/29/2021 , with salt free conditioner and UV light + pro Kit , had a professional plumnber installed it. We origianlly had a whirl pool salt water softener , we removed it and replaced with complete aquasana system , salt free conditioner + 1 million gallon fliter , pre post filters along with Uv Light. Cold water seems good and clean but when we boil the water , white residue appeared in the boiled water, even in the hot water kettle. Called aquasana customer service waited for a while (there is no immediate answer) but they called back after couple of hours. discussed the issue and they said that it does not take out minerals and it could be calcium in your city water and will never go away even with aquasana system installed. We never had this issue when we had the salt water softener. the main purpose of salt free conditioner was to replace our salt water softer. Picture 1. We're amazed at the difference this filter system made in our water quality…..well worth the investment!!! Decided on the Aquasauna Rhino Well Water with UV system after researching a few other major competitors. Our well water had some sediment/sand that clogged aerators over time and a medium hardness that would leave scaling in the shower, etc. If water hadn't been used for a few days, our hot water had the typical well water sulfur smell for the first minute or so of use. This is actually iron bacteria smell, not sulfur, and the water conditioner completely eliminated it. I installed our system myself in about 6 hours and we''ve been using it for almost 3 months now. Obviously, the filter eliminated the sediment but we were pleasantly surprised that the conditioner significantly reduced the water hardness and the sulfur smell completely. Our well water is now crystal clear, bottled water quality – straight from the tap. The conditioner did "soften" the water but it's not slippery at all and the shower water has the perfect level of "softness." My wife didn't want the conditioner because she can't stand slippery soft water but she loves the resulting water condition from this system. We did have a very minor concern right after delivery. Customer service was very responsive and resolved our concern favorably. I highly recommend Aquasana! Last comment is that I added the pro-Grade install kit and recommend it for the larger pre/post filters. I didn't use any of the pex fittings in the kit and, instead, used sharkbite fittings which was a little pricier. I probably spent another $300 in pex and fittings to install including isolation/bypass valves and a drain valve for easy filter replacement. Also added a water meter so I'd know exactly how many gallons we use and identify any potential hidden water leaks in our system. If you're considering this system, purchase with confidence. It really does perform as advertised and the customer service is excellent…..oh, and you don't have to buy salt or dump it out on your lawn….Drew D

Original install was good. Replacing the filter resulted in a leak. Called tech support – they told me to put a penny in the canister because the replacement filters are manufactured too small. The penny fixed the leak- but this is a crazy work around for a filter system that’s less than a year old.PennyFixer

It is not often I write a review, but after installing the APEC ROES-50 I bought, I had to write one. I know good equipment from junk; I am an RF engineer, aircraft pilot and aircraft A&P mechanic here in Tucson, so I know good equipment from junk. Unfortunately when buying mechanical things I am usually disappointed. Most things do not live up to their advertisement hype and are junk. That is not the case with the APEC RO system. I am not an RO water expert, but I spent over 10 hours researching RO water systems for my house before deciding on the ROES-50. I bought this for under the kitchen sink and to feed my refrigerator ice maker. The RO unit came with everything I would have needed for a normal house. All I had to buy extra was extra tubing to connect my icemaker. I ordered it from APEC online. I must say the RO filter installation book was the best set of instructions I think I have ever seen. A clear color picture of the lay out, different color tubing for everything so you cannot get mixed up (this was really nice), clear easy to follow step by step numbered instructions from start to finish. And a clear easy to find phone number you can call if you have a problem. Even the quality of the paper in the book was excellent. It was not really necessary, but I added a permeate pump to the unit to make up for my low water pressure. I could have got a RO unit with the pump installed from the factory, but I saved money by getting this one and adding the pump myself, and they are easy to add on later. After installing everything it all worked and worked well. The permeate pump REALLY works and speeds up water production a lot. With my low 45 PSI water pressure into the permeate pump, the faucet open and storage tank empty, my ROES-50 makes 32 oz of water every 7 minutes, that is 51 gallons a day. Now having the faucet open all day is not real life use, but you could make 51 gallons a day if you needed to. My old COSCO RO unit only made about 10 gallons a day and dumped waste water 24/7. This new APES unit shuts off when the pressure tells it the tank is full. You can test this by turning the tank off (to speed up the test) and watching the waste water shut off after 30 seconds. The RO tank has a shut off valve on it so this can be done easily. And THAT was a nice touch my old RO filter did not have a shut off on the tank. If you have the permeate pump on yours you can turn the tank valve off, put the waste tube into a bucket so you can watch it, open the faucet and watch the RO water come out and watch the waste water pulse on and off into the bucket as the pump does its pumping. Then you can turn the RO faucet off and watch the waste water stop in 30 seconds. It is easy to test this way and see the pump work, and see the shut off valve shut the water supply off and see the waste water stop coming out when it thinks it is full. For an old MO boy that had to see it to believe it, this convinced me it all was working great. I highly recommend AEPC if you want a RO water system for the house. And, I highly recommend getting a Permeate pump if you have less than 50 pounds of water pressure, or want to increase the efficiency of your system. David F Branson Tucson, AZmarybranson

I installed this system on an existing small bar type sink that has it's own cabinet underneath. Installation went well, for me that's saying a lot as I'm not the handiest around. I followed the instructions after reviewing them entirely so I didn't get half way and run into a problem. The biggest issue I had was me failing to tighten the metal compression fittings down tight enough from main water source to system. The instructions explain what sequence to start opening the supply valves, both on the main and then the system (blue valve on the tank). But really make sure your connections ARE TIGHT. Having smaller tools like two good wrenches will help especially in a tight area. They include enough teflon tape for the install, but you might want one extra roll on-hand only if you need to back the fittings off and on for any reason. Teflon tape is good but is really meant to be used that first time you tighten the fitting. Loosening and re-tightening fittings will quickly wear it down. The faucet I actually have not yet installed in place, but its attached, working and is actually better quality than I expected. I'm storing the faucet assembly under the sink when done with it, for now. Actually I may not install it to the sink at all. It is kind of nice to be able to move itto the container. I have several two gallon containers that won't fit this small sink for example, so I just fill them at the counter or even on the kitchen floor. The drawback to this is that you need to drain the trapped water in the tubing after you turn the faucet off. I just use the sink for this. Misc Notes Output flow is good. I'm not taxing the system heavily (~2 gals/day) so if the tank is full the pressure is great and will fill a 1 gal. container fairly quick. On a 2 gal container it slows a bit near the end, when it gets to a trickle it's done for awhile and you need to let process again, this amount of time varies with the water pressure in your home. Mine is pretty good, not sure exactly what it is, but its north of 70 PSI for sure and it takes a good 2-3 hours to fill the tank. I can get 2 of 3 gallons in 1.5 hours! If yours is < 50 PSI I would recommend doing your research on possibly incorporating a permeate trap. Otherwise it will take longer to fill your tank and will result iin more grey (waste) water (which can be easily collected for use in the garden). If it's taking 5-6 hours or something longer to fill the tank, then your water pressure is probably too low and almost certainly not a problem with the system itself. The RO process for the system requires ~70 PSI as I understand it. I think this is even in the paperwork somewhere. BTW, the tubing is sturdy and won't kink but if the system is slow you'd want to check this. TDS (Total Dissolved Solids), this is why you're here yes? OK mine went from ~ 250 ppm DOWN all the way to ~ 6! I am very happy about this and it was my target TDS. I had been slogging to the store to buy water from a commercial RO system with the same TDS, but haha not anymore! PH (Potential Hydrogen or Acidity/Alkalinity), went from 8.0 to 6.7 which is a good improvement. The PH level of pure water is 7.0. Noise. The system, while in operation is very quiet for me. When I fill a container at some point I hear a small thud and the thing kicks into operation. I'm not hearing any dripping or water noises within the system at all but I know it's doing it thing. Packaging & Quality of materials is excellent! Everything was very clean, safely packed and wrapped or sealed where applicable like the food grade tubing. Customer Support is EXCELLENT! I had a question about pre-filters and the response was immediate, friendly and helpful. I really think it sets them apart from competition and you could not ask for better. This factor was a big part of my decision to buy from them, as again I'm the handiest dude around.highernrg

Be carful not to lose the tiny nylon tube inserts that are loose in the connections bag. Good value and good support when I needed installation advice. The RO probably removes more minerals than commercial RO water that gets remineralised. I would say the taste from our city water supply after going through the system is halfway between distilled and commercial RO water, so I ad a tiny amount of Himalayan salt, which may not be the perfect remineralization solution, but it works for me.Peter

My son and I recently traveled from NY to FL to visit colleges and family, then traveled back. We packed this for "just in case" we needed water from anywhere to drink or what not. Glad we did. The tap water in our hotel in Florida had a horrible sulfur smell to it. I am a huge water drinker and when I realized the situation, I immediately grabbed this water bottle for filtering, and consumption. It worked great! Unfortunately, when we returned home and I was cleaning things and putting it away, the cap/nozzle end for the clean water broke from the cap. Wondering if I need to purchase a whole new filter, or can I just get the replacement end for the filter? Regardless, this was a very handy for our travels and will be taking it again with me.Linda R.

It like this; especially it's flexibility (of application, not the bottle itself…well, that too). But one issue is removing the filter from the bottle. Inserting it is a bit snug, but removal is difficult because going that direction (removing) the leading edge if the bottom fitting isn't beveled as is its other edge. We got two of these and one was merely a bit difficult to remove. The other required more twisting and tugging than seemed either reasonable or safe. It's better after using an X-acto knife to both SLIGHTLY enlarge the inside neck of the bottle and to bevel the lower edge of the filter‚ÄĒbut why should I have to do that?Rob1

These filters make water smell fishy. This is the second pack I've bought that this has happened. I sanitized the pitcher and followed all instructions. The water smells okay at first but after a day or so of use it starts giving off a fishy odor. I noticed the smell the first time when boiling filtered water and then went to smell the filter to see if it's coming from the filter or if it's how the water smells from the tap. The filter stank. I also boiled water directly from the tap just to be sure. It is definitely the filter that is causing this.Pizza

Admittedly, my well water is awful. Even with two whole house water filters and a water softener the water is undrinkable and at times it smells. Therefore, I purchased two pur drinking pitchers, instead of so much bottled water to help save money. Problem is, lately I have not been saving money. These water pitcher filters are taking hours to filter. I had become accustomed to the filters being turtle slow, but these are turtle with broken legs slow. As the filters do a great job of making the water drinkable once it is finally filtered, I gave it two stars. Also, I am accustomed to having to change the filters out every two weeks because our water is truly bad enough to turn the filters brown and make the filtering process less effective that quickly. However, filters should not take so long, or get clogged on the very first day of use. I am so fustrated at having to go through six filters this week in the hopes the previous four were simple bad, only to discover all six were broke leg turtle slow that easily get clogged. Therefore, my family and I are back to buying cases of bottled water to drink and use for cooking.Nan

Since I have the Pur 7 cup pitcher filtration system I decided to try the Pur Plus filter cartridge. This filter uses a special formula of granulated activated carbon and ion exchange that works to reduce contaminants including Lead but does not filter microbes. In addition the pur plus pitcher filters reduce chlorine taste and odor and makes water I love to drink. This filter is made to last 2 months and filters up to 40 gallons of water during that time. There are a series of steps you have to follow before you can install a filter. They start with soaking this filter for 15 minutes, rinse filter for 10 seconds, insert filter in the Pur pitcher and twist to lock and finally pour water in the top chamber and let it drain into the bottom of the Pur pitcher.susievere

Bought and installed September 2019……I have yet to change a filter.(it's summer 2022)…I'm on here buying replacement filters now. This is truly one amazing system. Every single person that drinks our water loves it. I'm really not exaggerating. Before the RO system I had 5 gallon water delivery and a tank….after spending 120 bucks a month on water I was done! I knew there had to be a better alternative and this was it. Wow what a life saver this has been. You probably should replace these filters when they say to however. This has saved me so much money. I bought mine off their eBay store but I see they have one on Amazon as well, all seem to be the same prices. If you're on the edge about getting one, I definitely recommend it. I'm a long time user and it works very very well…. It's one of those things you can install and forget trust me I did… Installation took me about 4 hours but I'm very meticulous it will take a normal person probably half that, it's not hard either just make sure you have room underneath your sink for the tank and the filtersWes

A friend of mine convinced me to test my tap-filter water. He tought it tasted funny. I've been ok with it, but I listened and did the test. I was suprised, but the Coliform level was too high! So, I bought myself a regular 3-stage filter, did the test agaim. It was lower, but still too high for comfort. So I did some more research, and figured out I could add a UV filter to my regular RO system. This brings me here! I just bought this set and installed it. And did the water test for a 3rd time. I needed this system for health reasons(recommended by my liver specialist team). This has been a real God send for me especially with the water quality issues we face in our community. Other than a few minor quirks on set up, my system which includes UV works great. Just now ordering my replacement filters as I near one year of service. We rarely buy bottled water anymore so that has been a positive factor in the payback cost. Installation was pretty easy for a non-mechanical minded guy like me. The pitcher wasn't what I expected. I'm mostly disappointed with the customer service and lack of any sort of return/ exchange policy that makes sense. I could have easily purchased this through a standard big box retailer with great return policies, but decided to purchase directly through LifeStraw to support the business directly. What a mistake. Returns and exchanges are apparently only honored for completely unused merchandise can't possibly make sense for a water pitcher. One has to reasonably fill it with water in order to test it. Although a great looking product, the 10 cup pitcher is so heavy and ergonomically challenging to use. I have guests visit that can't use my pitcher, only to put it down and ask me to pour them some water. How can this make any sense? Such a shame. I wanted to exchange the product to try out the 7 cup pitcher, but I'm not interested in sinking any more money into this company. Stay away and don't make the same mistake I did. That, or go ahead and support a Big box store so that you get the security to change your mind.Marian J.

This is a nice, easy to use design that filters quickly and provides really great-tasting water from mediocre-tasting tap water. I especially like how many different pollutants the filters are rated for removing, which is one of the main reasons I chose this over other products on the market. Lead, micro-plastics, and dissolved pharmaceuticals are three that I wanted to be able to reduce levels of. I opted for the glass pitcher to reduce the amount of plastic involved. The silicone base add-on was a good idea that I would recommend given the size and weight of a fully filled pitcher. It helps to cushion the bottom of the pitcher and makes it slightly grippy. I've only had this for about a month, so I can't speak to longevity of the design, but I haven't had any issues or complaints so far. The only mildly annoying aspect is that you can't fill the whole pitcher at once with a single fill of the filter reservoir. This is unavoidable with this kind of design: the reservoir has a smaller volume than the filter portion of the pitcher, and being a passive (non-pressurized) system, water only filters until the water height equalizes between the inside of the filter reservoir and the outside portion of the pitcher. Not a big deal since it filters quickly (a few minutes per fill, at most). I just top off the pitcher most times I use it and it's not been an issue. Overall, I'm really happy with this product and would heartily recommend it to others.Brian G.

I keep getting emails to review this. Let's see if I can make it work this time. I bought my first glass pitcher in September 2021. A month or two ago the glass pitcher broke. I ordered a whole new pitcher and filter system, because that seemed to be the only option. I spent 60+ dollars on that (and I had just bought a years worth of filters prior to the pitcher breaking). I reached out to Customer service because I felt like something should be done and I was told that I would be sent a pitcher replacement. At that point I had already ordered the other pitcher and she said I could return it for a refund but I decided to keep it because I do like the system and I figured the pitcher will likely break again and so this way I have two. On my recent credit card statement it charged me twice. So I have not been given one as she said, I paid for both. I'm very disappointed in the whole Customer service process. I will use these Life Straw purchases until they break, but I will not be purchasing again and I cannot recommend. I'm tired of writing emails and reviews back and forth and it's just been an unsatisfactory experience in general. I love the glass pitcher idea, but this has been very frustrating and expensive. Last year I bought 2 dispensers because we wanted to filter the tap before putting it through the distiller for our humidifier as well as for our own drinking. Taste: I personally didn’t like the taste at first compared to the Brita, but eventually came anround. And compared to a Samsung fridge dispenser I prefer the fridge taste – but that isn’t as healthy. Speed of Filtration: It’s really slow at first and when you replace filters. Just be patient. Fill it up, walk away for 30 minutes, come back to it and fill again. Overfill/Spilling: Try and make sure when you are filling the filters you don’t over fill. I don’t mean past the max fill line in the filter part. I mean overall. Sometimes I will fully fill up the filter housing portion when my dispenser is too full to hold all of it. I’ll walk away from a dry counter and come back to it being flooded. I truly don’t understand how it forces water through the filter past capacity, but it does. That extra water flows out of the little cut out handle parts and floods the counter. So be careful and mindful! Dispensing Speed: It depends. At full and half full, it takes about 30 seconds to fill up my 1 L water bottle. The lower the water level the slower it is. We’ve started just taking the filter compartment off and dumping the filtered water into a pitcher for faster filling of other things if we’re doing a lot at once or for the distiller. Replacing Filters: Is honestly a bit of a pain just because of how snugly everything fits together. I don’t have the best grip strength though so it may be easier for stronger people. The carbon is not that bad but the membrane is the tricky one. Good thing you only have to replace that every 6 months! Why I knocked off the star: The dispensing speed can be really annoying. While we came up with a solution, having to pull apart my dispenser and dump the water into a separate container is more work than I should honestly have to do. If you are using normal sized cups and bottles you likely won’t be bothered by it. I just have 5-7 1L water bottles I need fill everyday between my partner and I. The second point, we are nearing a year since purchase and start of use (it is mid Oct 2022 and we got them mid Nov 2021) they are LEAKING! The dispenser tab/switch is leaking/dripping. It started earlier this month with one of them and I managed to get it to stop by gently pushing the bottom of the button back in. But that no longer works and both units are leaking/dripping. We have to have them both sitting over the sink now which is not very convenient. I’m not sure if there is some build up (because there was on the underside of the dispenser lip) in the mechanism that’s causing the dripping? I’m really hoping I don’t have to purchase 2 whole new units. I don’t mind filter costs but if I have to replace the whole dispenser every year that’s really costly and wasteful, especially from a company trying to change stuff like that. Overall: I do love these dispensers. My gripes come from using them SO MUCH and if you use them a more normal amount I doubt you will have the issues I do.Kortney J.

I told my husband that I had never been so excited to receive something in the mail and I was on the waitlist for months. I wanted to like this filter sooo bad, but the design of the spout is just horrible! You have to push it in (rather than a pull-down spout like other brands) and when the dispenser gets to be half empty it's no longer heavy enough to remain in place since you are pushing, resulting in it sliding backward. You have to hold the dispenser to keep it from moving around, which means I can't keep this in the fridge either and it has been a permanent resident on my already small counter. I've only had the dispenser for 7 months and the spout has recently started leaking so now it has to sit over my sink from the amount of water that flows out of it. It already takes a long time to fill up (which I didn't mind), but I'm now having to fill it up constantly from the loss of water (which I do mind). It's such a shame that I have to buy another filter, from a different company this time, because the water quality really was awesome! The water quality is the only reason I'm giving this 2 stars instead of 1.Sam

Horrendous. My wife bought one of these to switch from a Britta pitcher due to better filtration. Now, my typical "water flow" is to fill the LifeStraw container and dispense water into 1L Sodastream bottles for carbonating. Below are the problems I would run into, which previously took me all of 15 seconds with a Britta pitcher. First of all, the dispenser container is only a little over one foot deep. That means it doesn't touch the back wall of our kitchen counter if out of the refrigerator– And doesn't touch the back of our refrigerator if inside it. Wouldn't be a problem if the product was heavy enough so that when pushing the water dispensing button the container stayed in place. Not the case. When pushing the dispensing button, unless completely, to-the-brim full of water, you will push the entire container backwards while dispensing a trickle of water– Because it's too light to withstand the force of pushing the button. And now you have water spillage as well, just for trying. Perfectly maddening. This then results in Greco-Roman wrestling attempts to find your handling on the container to both keep it in place and dispense water. Add double difficulty if this is in your fridge and it keeps sliding back within the confines of your shelves. Half a star for inventing a unique torture method. As for when the water actually dispenses, even at full capacity– It is very slow. It takes just over a minute to fill a 1L Sodastream bottle. I promise you, it feels like an eternity. Another half star for forcibly teaching me a lesson in patience. In addition to that, after refilling the dispenser to the top, the cover barely seals, and thus almost always guaranteeing some spillage of your new water as it filters if you are moving it back to a fridge or just away from the edge of your sink. Sure, it's a problem with refilling any water filter device, but now you don't even get a handle to transport it. You just get to spill water on yourself and your floor as you move a slippery Dell desktop sized container away from your sink. Also, bear in mind where you will be using it. We have a horizontal split fridge, and thus if we keep it inside (the bottom half), it results in 30-60 second long squats to refill glasses or bottles. That's on us, but I feel like a faster stream would make this complain null. I guess at least now we're getting some squats in. Tl'dr ; this container is a micro-plastic filtering torture device, go with the pitcher to alleviate woes.Elliott

It was super easy to install, there were multiple adapter options to make sure it will fit different types of sinks. Dad and I installed the system in about 4-5 hours. Most of the time was spent digging down into the ground to plumb the optional by-pass. Once the system was operational, mom noticed the difference in water right away. No more chlorine smell while in the shower and water looks so much clearer in the bathtub. I finally have water that tastes clean! This carbon fiber faucet filter was exactly what I was looking for.
