10. Murder At Teal's Pond: Hazel Drew And The Mystery That Inspired Twin Peaks [Book]

Product Details:
A brilliantly researched reinvestigation into the nearly forgotten century-old murder that inspired one of the most seductive mysteries in the history of television and film.in 1908, hazel drew was found floating in a pond in sand lake, new york, beaten to death. the unsolved murder inspired rumors, speculation, ghost stories, and, almost a century later, the phenomenon of twin peaks. who killed hazel drew? like laura palmer, she was a paradox of personalities–a young, beautiful puzzle with secrets. perhaps the even trickier question is, who was hazel drew? seeking escape from her poor country roots, hazel found work as a domestic servant in the notoriously corrupt metropolis of troy, new york. fate derailed her plans for reinvention. but the investigation that followed her brutal murder was fraught with red herrings, wild-goose chases, and unreliable witnesses. did officials really follow the leads? or did they bury them to protect the guilty? the likely answer is revealed in an absorbing true mystery that's ingeniously reconstructed and every bit as haunting as the cultural obsession it inspired.

Reviews:
This book kept me at the edge of my seat. I wanted to know what happened to the young couple. The development of the story is brilliant. Each page slowly brings its readers some clarity on what went on before the disappearance. Family and friendship themes were woven through each character's lives. Each motivation acted upon the differences in their circumstances and social stature. The characters draw emotions depending on whose point of view is on the page. The characterization of mothers and the differences were put into focus here. Teenagers, cliques, self-discovery, and the mistakes they make are all glaring in this book. The resolution at the end for the younger woman was tight, not the typical happy ending since she didn't come back unscathed. Also, in conclusion, with one of the characters, the secrets he possesses just leave one stunned.Jane reads

An excellent crime novel based in Iceland giving a good insight into icelandic culture and history.A definite page-turner.shez55music
Roman bien mené alternant les épisodes dans les années 1930 -1945 et les passages contemporains. Du suspens.FLORENCE
Arnaldur Indridason is a very good writer of police procedurals, similar to Henning Mankell or other Scandinavian writers. I have enjoyed reading these books and soon will have read all of the ones that have been translated into English. Very interesting, set in Iceland, focusing on Erlander, a flawed but loveable and believable character. Highly recommended.barbfin

I was looking for a book for my junior high kids to read and report on. This came up and it was perfect! Not only did it give a history lesson but it was truly suspenseful for the kids. They wanted to find that Treasure!! All three boys characters were very interesting. All from different backgrounds.BearRun
I loved this book. It reminded me a lot of the Goonies, Stand by Me and the Hardy Boys all mixed into one. This book is what thirteen-year old boys are all about. Anyone who reads it will want to go out and hunt for their own treasure.
Reminds me of the Three Investigator series I loved as a child. Looking for something similar for my nephews who watch the Oak Island TV show and came across this. They said it was a lot of fun. Score!FuncleMatt
