1. Alt-Right: From 4chan To The White House [Book]
Product Details:
Aside from the election of donald trump, the most surprising political development of the past few years has been the rapid rise of the alt-right–the white nationalist, anti-feminist, far-right movement that provided much of the ground-level energy for trump's campaign and has been a focus of international media attention ever since. journalist mike wendling knows. he's been following the alt-right closely for years, and with this book he shares the deep knowledge he's gleaned. media accounts to the contrary, the alt-right didn't just burst out of nowhere in 2016–rather, they have been building their network quietly for years, using bulletin boards and social media to spread a toxic hybrid of technological utopianism, reactionary philosophy, and racial hatred. wendling traces clearly the rise of the movement and the evolution of its ideas, and he introduces us to some of its key figures–many of whom he interviewed personally for the book. he explores links between alt-right rhetoric and hate crimes and terrorism, showing that the evidence connecting them is undeniable. ultimately, however, he builds a strong case that the movement's lack of a coherent base and its contradictory tendencies are already sapping its strength and will lead to its downfall. a shocking exposé of a movement whose emergence stunned the world, alt-right presents a disturbing picture of our current political moment.

4. Complete Maus The: A Survivor's Tale By Spiegelman Art
Product Details:
At last! here is the definitive edition of the book acclaimed as the most affecting and successful narrative ever done about the holocaust (wall street journal) and the first masterpiece in comic book history (the new yorker). it now appears as it was originally envisioned by the author: the complete maus.it is the story of vladek spiegelman, a jewish survivor of hitlers europe, and his son, a cartoonist coming to terms with his fathers story. maus approaches the unspeakable through the diminutive. its form, the cartoon (the nazis are cats, the jews mice), shocks us out of any lingering sense of familiarity and succeeds in drawing us closer to the bleak heart of the holocaust (the new york times). maus is a haunting tale within a tale. vladeks harrowing story of survival is woven into the authors account of his tortured relationship with his aging father. against the backdrop of guilt brought by survival, they stage a normal life of small arguments and unhappy visits. this astonishing retelling of our centurys grisliest news is a story of survival, not only of vladek but of the children who survive even the survivors. maus studies the bloody pawprints of history and tracks its meaning for all of us.

Reviews:
First off, do NOT let the cover of this COMIC BOOK throw you off. i get that there is a huge swastika on the cover… and the cover is the firs impression of a book (to most people) but i read this comic book for a college class and it is actually a great comic book. it is a comic book about a Jewish man named Vladek in Auschwitz during WWII. However, what is so interesting about this comic book is that, A) it is a comic book (a funny medium of art to use for a holocaust book, its a little graphic) B) it is read as a third person. its a convo between Vladek and his son. the comic book addresses the complicated relationships between holocaust survivors and the newer generations. i would definitely recommend this comic book. it comes in two parts or you can purchase it in one huge book.susnezra.w
A must read for any person, especially younger people to gain a better understanding of history.idolmind05
5. The Alt-Right: What Everyone Needs To Know [Ebook]
Product Details:
In recent years, the so-called alt-right, a white nationalist movement, has grown at an alarming rate. taking advantage of high levels of racial polarization, the alt-right seeks to normalize explicit white identity politics. growing from a marginalized and disorganized group of internet trolls and propagandists, the alt-right became one of the major news stories of the 2016 presidential election, and exploded into public consciousness after its march through charlottesville in summer 2017. discussions of the alt-right are now a regular part of political discourse in the united states and beyond. in the alt-right: what everyone needs to know, george hawley, one of the world's leading experts on the conservative movement and right-wing radicalism, provides a clear explanation of the ideas, tactics, history, and prominent figures of one of the most disturbing movements in america today. although it presents itself as a new phenomenon, the alt-right is just the latest iteration of a longstanding radical right-wing political tradition. throughout, hawley discusses the other primary ideological influences on the alt-right: libertarianism, paleoconservatism, neo-reaction, and the men's rights movement. the alt-right represents a genuine challenge to pluralistic liberal democracy, but its size and influence are often exaggerated. whether intentionally or not, president donald trump energized the alt-right in 2016, yet conflating trump's variety of right-wing politics with the alt-right causes many observers to both overestimate the alt-right's size and downplay its radicalism. hawley provides a tour of the contemporary radical right, and explains how it differs from more mainstream varieties of conservatism. dispassionate and accessible, this is an essential overview for anyone seeking to understand to this disruptive and dangerous political movement.

6. Making Sense Of The Alt-Right [Book]
Product Details:
During the 2016 election, a new term entered the mainstream american political lexicon: "alt-right," short for "alternative right." despite the innocuous name, the alt-right is a white-nationalist movement. yet it differs from earlier racist groups: it is youthful and tech savvy, obsessed with provocation and trolling, amorphous, predominantly online, and mostly anonymous. and it was energized by donald trump's presidential campaign. in making sense of the alt-right, george hawley provides an accessible introduction and gives vital perspective on the emergence of a group whose overt racism has confounded expectations for a more tolerant america. hawley explains the movement's origins, evolution, methods, and core belief in white-identity politics. the book explores how the alt-right differs from traditional white nationalism, libertarianism, and other online illiberal ideologies such as neoreaction, as well as from mainstream republicans and even donald trump and steve bannon. the alt-right's use of offensive humor and its trolling-driven approach, based in animosity to so-called political correctness, can make it difficult to determine true motivations. yet through exclusive interviews and a careful study of the alt-right's influential texts, hawley is able to paint a full picture of a movement that not only disagrees with liberalism but also fundamentally rejects most of the tenets of american conservatism. hawley points to the alt-right's growing influence and makes a case for coming to a precise understanding of its beliefs without sensationalism or downplaying the movement's radicalism.

8. Circe [Book]
Product Details:
"a bold and subversive retelling of the goddess's story," this #1 new york times bestseller is "both epic and intimate in its scope, recasting the most infamous female figure from the odyssey as a hero in her own right" (alexandra alter, the new york times). in the house of helios, god of the sun and mightiest of the titans, a daughter is born. but circe is a strange child — not powerful like her father, nor viciously alluring like her mother. turning to the world of mortals for companionship, she discovers that she does possess power — the power of witchcraft, which can transform rivals into monsters and menace the gods themselves. threatened, zeus banishes her to a deserted island, where she hones her occult craft, tames wild beasts, and crosses paths with many of the most famous figures in all of mythology, including the minotaur, daedalus and his doomed son icarus, the murderous medea, and, of course, wily odysseus. but there is danger, too, for a woman who stands alone and circe unwittingly draws the wrath of both men and gods, ultimately finding herself pitted against one of the most terrifying and vengeful of the olympians. to protect what she loves most, circe must summon all her strength and choose, once and for all, whether she belongs with the gods she is born from, or the mortals she has come to love. with unforgettably vivid characters, mesmerizing language, and page-turning suspense, circe is a triumph of storytelling, an intoxicating epic of family rivalry, palace intrigue, love and loss, as well as a celebration of indomitable female strength in a man's world. #1 new york times bestseller — named one of the best books of the year by npr, the washington post, people, time, amazon, entertainment weekly, bustle, newsweek, the a.v. club, christian science monitor, refinery 29, buzzfeed, paste, audible, kirkus, publishers weekly, thrillist, nypl, self, real simple, goodreads, boston globe, electric literature, bookpage, the guardian, book riot, seattle times, and business insider
Reviews:
I loved this book. It took me a bit to finally start reading but once I did, I could not put it down. I was a Greco/Roman history major and this book was right up my alley. I love how she sprinkled in some of the other mythologies, such as Prometheus, to really build the story. I highly recommend this book and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good read, especially if you loved Ovid, Homer, or Euripides. Give it a go!kelsey.g
I tried to read this when I first got it but I just couldn't get into it. Well this time I made sure to really let myself fall into the imagery of this story and I have fallen in love, I cannot put this done! All day at work I'm excited to get home to read and for me that says something because it takes a great book to really steal my obsession. I think I found it hard to read the first time as I haven't read many fantasy novels before and wasn't really used to this style. You can call me thoroughly converted now! I will be getting song of a Achilles next I'm so excited 💕KO
This novel was absolutely beautiful. As a Madeline Miller fan from the Song of Achilles days, I had high expectations for this book, which were absolutely met! You are dragged along with Circe to experience her world and her life; all the good, bad, and ugly that entails. The emotion in this story is so real, and can make it difficult to read at times, especially when feeling alongside her, the graphic nature of the violence that is committed against our MC. (Content warning for people with a history of sexual assault, please be aware that this book does have a scene later in the novel that portrays an assault quite accurately, and can be distressing to read). The tragic tale of Circe that has been reimagined by Miller is absolutely another hit, I can't wait to reread this after all my friends have borrowed it.Charlie
9. Lincoln In The Bardo: A Novel [Book]
Product Details:
#1 new york times bestseller – winner of the man booker prizethe “devastatingly moving” (people) first novel from the author of tenth of december: a moving and original father-son story featuring none other than abraham lincoln, as well as an unforgettable cast of supporting characters, living and dead, historical and inventednamed one of paste’s best novels of the decade – named one of the ten best books of the year by the washington post, usa today, and maureen corrigan, npr – one of time’s ten best novels of the year – a new york times notable book – one of o: the oprah magazine’s best books of the year february 1862. the civil war is less than one year old. the fighting has begun in earnest, and the nation has begun to realize it is in for a long, bloody struggle. meanwhile, president lincoln’s beloved eleven-year-old son, willie, lies upstairs in the white house, gravely ill. in a matter of days, despite predictions of a recovery, willie dies and is laid to rest in a georgetown cemetery. “my poor boy, he was too good for this earth,” the president says at the time. “god has called him home.” newspapers report that a grief-stricken lincoln returns, alone, to the crypt several times to hold his boy’s body.from that seed of historical truth, george saunders spins an unforgettable story of familial love and loss that breaks free of its realistic, historical framework into a supernatural realm both hilarious and terrifying. willie lincoln finds himself in a strange purgatory where ghosts mingle, gripe, commiserate, quarrel, and enact bizarre acts of penance. within this transitional state—called, in the tibetan tradition, the bardo—a monumental struggle erupts over young willie’s soul.lincoln in the bardo is an astonishing feat of imagination and a bold step forward from one of the most important and influential writers of his generation. formally daring, generous in spirit, deeply concerned with matters of the heart, it is a testament to fiction’s ability to speak honestly and powerfully to the things that really matter to us. a luminous feat of generosity and humanism.”—colson whitehead, the new york times book review “a masterpiece.”—zadie smith
Reviews:
This book appeared on my wife's book club list. She gave it less than 10 pages before assigning it to the rubbish pile. I persevered and grew to understand what was happening. To me, this must be read as a documentary script, possibly best for radio. One must quickly ignore most if the attributions following each sentence or paragraph and only refer to them occasionally. I think some subtitling of scene changes might have helped the reader. It's a quirky take on the afterworld at the time that Abraham Lincoln lost his son to typhoid. There is significant humour, some subtle and some slapstick. And there is much pathos. While I recognise that it's probably the unusual writing style that won the author his Man Booker Prize, I personally doubt it will be a best-seller based on referral.IvanOz
This book was such a thrill to read. It's not done in your typical style, but more in a conversation style, like a play. It incorporates historical accounts and excerpts from other books to provide background, mood, etc. Saunders really did his research! I laughed, cried, and didn't want to put the book down often times losing track of time as I read. I think this is the best work Saunders has to date. If he continues to write like this he will become my favorite author ever.MATank22
10. Sapiens: A Brief History Of Humankind [Book]
Product Details:
Official u.s. edition with full color illustrations throughout.new york times bestsellera summer reading pick for president barack obama, bill gates, and mark zuckerberg from a renowned historian comes a groundbreaking narrative of humanity’s creation and evolution—a #1 international bestseller—that explores the ways in which biology and history have defined us and enhanced our understanding of what it means to be “human.” one hundred thousand years ago, at least six different species of humans inhabited earth. yet today there is only one—homo sapiens. what happened to the others? and what may happen to us? most books about the history of humanity pursue either a historical or a biological approach, but dr. yuval noah harari breaks the mold with this highly original book that begins about 70,000 years ago with the appearance of modern cognition. from examining the role evolving humans have played in the global ecosystem to charting the rise of empires, sapiens integrates history and science to reconsider accepted narratives, connect past developments with contemporary concerns, and examine specific events within the context of larger ideas.dr. harari also compels us to look ahead, because over the last few decades humans have begun to bend laws of natural selection that have governed life for the past four billion years. featuring 27 photographs, 6 maps, and 25 illustrations/diagrams, this provocative and insightful work is sure to spark debate and is essential reading for aficionados of jared diamond, james gleick, matt ridley, robert wright, and sharon moalem.
Reviews:
Sapiens is an insightful, history-laden explanation of how and why we humans organize ourselves the way we do. At the same time, it's a readable story of human history. Harari is an apt guide who doesn't preach, but lays out for us how we may have come by some of our inner workings. At a time when the future looks opaque, an unflinching look at our past can do wonders. I read all three Harari books this past summer, but found Sapiens to be the most compelling and important work of the three. A book that will change your mind, if you're open to it.jwregularguy
The book is a modern day classic which tries to reason why certain decisions were chosen over the other and how these decisions have shaped up the course of human history. While giving us potential explanations, Yuval also reminds us that these are mere speculations or theories and nobody can be sure what was going inside the minds of homo sapiens at that time. Some chapters are a bit of a stretch, though when someone tries to summarize the course of 70,000 years of human history into 416 pages, one can hardly complain. I have given an extra star for BookishSanta team who have provided the book in original (color edition) form with a nice touch of handwritten note.Utkarsh Y.
I really enjoyed this book. It is well written and had me gripped from page one. The author puts things into perspective – drawing analogies and parallels – that is shocking , surprising and even funny. I felt a number of emotions reading this, from ignorance, astonishing intellect, shock, horror, surprise, anger, sadness, hunger? I highly recommend for anyone looking for a easy, albeit enlightening read about the development of human, society and life as we know it.Gene
11. Can't Hurt Me: Master Your Mind And Defy The Odds [Book]
Product Details:
Can't hurt me: master your mind and defy the oddsfor david goggins, childhood was a nightmare — poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. but through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a u.s. armed forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. the only man in history to complete elite training as a navy seal, army ranger, and air force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events, inspiring outside magazine to name him "the fittest (real) man in america." in can't hurt me, he shares his astonishing life story and reveals that most of us tap into only 40% of our capabilities. goggins calls this the 40% rule, and his story illuminates a path that anyone can follow to push past pain, demolish fear, and reach their full potential.
Reviews:
David Goggins is an extraordinary individual. He is constantly seeking to improve himself – he still understand that he has a long way to go. This is shown through his constant pursuits to find the courage to go past his comfort zones. At times, it is shown that he puts himself at life's risks – however, this book shows us that anything is possible if you use a positive mindset everyday. I don't think everyone will love the strategies he used throughout his journey or even to this day, but one does become fascinating with someone who is eager to always never be complacent. Isn't that what we all want? I love this book. I'm very happy I purchased the book and it will be one I keep on my bookshelf… forever.Anyssa
This true story of a man who had a horrific childhood and suffered more than most could even fathom is inspirational beyond any self-help book you will ever read. If you are stuck in a rut or need a reason to lift your focus, Goggins will teach you his secrets. I have read many self-help books and this is beyond self-help, this is a (true) story woven into success. I challenge anyone to read this and not be inspired. My son has also read it now and he in the past 3 weeks is now running a marathon distance each week. Such is the power of this story.Stewart
This is a book that I will reread for years. This man's life was far from easy and persevered through so many challenges and obstacles. From an abusive childhood he learned from the beginning that life wasn't easy and no easier to dealing with racism in his teenage years. Which lead him to want to rise higher above all odds and join the military then onto the navy seals, and from there became an elite athlete. David Goggins shows you how to callus the mind from mental, physical, and emotional pain to keep pushing yourself to see what you're really made of and put aside our lazy excuses. This book is truly motivating , I would recommend to everyone.jennifer.l

Reviews:
Like every other person on BookTok, I was told to read this series. I had fallen out of my love of reading, and was barely reading ten books a year. I blew through this entire series. So much so that I was annoyed with work for having the gaul to make me do my job during reading hours. The twists and the turns in this series are amazing. Is it the best book you've ever read, or the most well written, no. but it's enjoyable as hell.courtney.h
Where do I even start? Well I may be late to the ride, but I finally started to read this series, after seeing it everywhere and do you know what they didn’t lie. This book was incredible, with not just the story of Feyre and what started out as a punishment for her actions, but into a love story where she needed to be strong and save the one she love and all those around her in the different courts. The writing was truly magical, there is something about Sarah who can truly make you imagine what your are reading with her words, the description of the places abs people as well as the emotions, and captivating and engaging. There are so many memorable moments in this book and I am itching to start the next to find out what happens next with them all. I can see why this has been so hyped up and I can’t wait to read more and all Sarah’s other books if they are as incredible as this one!! I highly recommend if you haven’t already!!rebecca.p
So this is a really good book! I was nervous as the reviews on Amazon were not so great. However Acotnr kept showing up on my tik tok account and I was in awe about all the hype so I gave it a chance! Listen to me carefully, ignore all reviews and read it for yourself. If you hate it that’s ok read the second anyways. The first one is just a background and an explanation for the main characters growing. The second one though omg!!! This book is spicy all day long, but isn’t just spice. It’s got an amazing fantasy story line! I read this book in 3 days staying up till 2am to finish it! I was left torn, confused, joyful, in love, ready to tackle my husband into the bed, and wanting more! This series is incredibleanna .p

Reviews:
3.5/5 Stars 2/5 Steam Rating Alternating Timeline After hearing all of the rave reviews this summer, I had expected a little bit more from this story. To me, this book read a lot more like Women’s Fiction than a true romance. The author had her work cut out for her, she had to cover six years worth of feelings within 320pgs. Did I go to like the characters? Yes. Did I FEEL the love they had for each other? No, not really. I just wanted to feel the connection they shared and get lost in those feelings with them, unfortunately there was just so much of those six years left untold. With all that said, it was a decent story. I can definitely see this read as a light “beach read”.Rhi
15. Years Of Rage: White Supremacy In The United States From The Klan To The Alt-Right [Book]
Product Details:
Years of rage is a revealing–and frightening–history of the many and varied white supremacist groups that have operated in the united states from the rebirth of the klan in 1915 through to the rise of the alt-right and the presidency of donald j. trump. historian d. j. mulloy explores the motivations and underlying beliefs of these racists, their fears of displacement, their propaganda, their propensity to commit acts of violence and terrorism, and their deep and unwavering sense of rage. he also considers the important role played by women within the movement, as well as white supremacy's deep roots in american society. indeed, mulloy demonstrates that rather than being consigned to the margins of american history, at times–the 1920s; the 1950s; the presidency of trump–white supremacy has been remarkably close to the center. wide-ranging yet accessible, years of rage examines a host of fascinating topics and events including the skillful promotion of the klan by professional salesmen during the 1920s, the vicious campaign of violence directed against the civil rights movement during the 1950s and 1960s, the development of a nazi-klan alliance during the 1970s, the centrality of esoteric religious beliefs like identity christianity to many white supremacists, the bombing of the murrah federal building in oklahoma city in 1995, and the critical role played by the internet, social media, and donald trump to the startling resurgence of far right in our own time.
16. Make America Meme Again: The Rhetoric Of The Alt-Right [Book]
Product Details:
As demonstrated by the 2016 presidential election, memes have become the suasory tactic par excellence for the promotional and recruitment efforts of the alt-right. memes are not simply humorous shorthands or pithy assertions, but play a significant role in the machinations of politics and how the public comes to understand and respond to their government and compatriots. using the tools of rhetorical criticism, the authors detail how memetic persuasion operates, with a particular focus on the 2016 election of donald j. trump. make america meme again reveals the rhetorical principles used to design alt-right memes, outlining the myriad ways memes lure mainstream audiences to a number of extremist claims. in particular, this book argues that alt-right memes impact the culture of digital boards and broader public culture by stultifying discourse, thereby shaping how publics congeal. the authors demonstrate that memes are a mechanism that proliferate white nationalism and exclusionary politics by spreading algorithmically through network cultures in ways that are often difficult to discern. alt-right memes thus present a significant threat to democratic praxis, one that can begin to be combatted through a rigorous rhetorical analysis of their power and influence. make america meme again illuminates the function of networked persuasion for scholars and practitioners of rhetoric, media, and communication; political theorists; digital humanists; and anyone who has ever seen, crafted, or proliferated a meme.

Reviews:
This should appeal even to those who don't read science fiction – what love means in a timeless war.Michael
A time travel novel that is about a war, but not really; nor is it really about the opposing forces and their reasons for fighting. It's about an agent of each side Red from the Agency and Blue from the Garden. Each faction believes it's version of a healthy future is the only way to survive, and the way humanity must persevere. Agency is very tech focused and the Garden is nature focused. Both groups fight by sending their operatives to different Strands (think of a multiverse) to make small adjustments to bring about slightly different outcomes that will have a butterfly effect on the timeline. Red and Blue are overlapping, haunting each other's missions and slightly sabotaging each other, and have been for awhile. When they start communicating with each other through over the top coded messages (i.e. burn a message before reading!) their dynamic changes. A sci-fi book not about war, not actually about the future, but about two sides caught in opposition to each other that journey towards something different.BrianLT

20. Kill All Normies: The Online Culture Wars From Tumblr And 4chan To The Alt-Right And Trump [Book]
Product Details:
Recent years have seen a revival of the heated culture wars of the 1990s, but this time its battle ground is the internet. on one side the alt right ranges from the once obscure neo-reactionary and white separatist movements, to geeky subcultures like 4chan, to more mainstream manifestations such as the trump-supporting gay libertarian milo yiannopolous. on the other side, a culture of struggle sessions and virtue signalling lurks behind a therapeutic language of trigger warnings and safe spaces. the feminist side of the online culture wars has its equally geeky subcultures right through to its mainstream expression. kill all normies explores some of the cultural genealogies and past parallels of these styles and subcultures, drawing from transgressive styles of 60s libertinism and conservative movements, to make the case for a rejection of the perpetual cultural turn.
