Reviews:
A sequal to the Pendragon series. It features the return of the legendary King Arthur to Great Britian. A good read, but in all honesty a bit of a let down to the series. Read it if you want the conclusion, but you're not missing out by not reading it.
As have been all the S. Lawhead books I have read this one was no different. These are more than just fantasy writing. They are truly works of literiture. Weaving mystery and adventure into a marvelous journey of the Cristian faith. In Avalon he puts forth a legitamate argument for the retaining of the royalty. He also challenges believers to recognise the forces that are at work both with in and without to destroy true faith. It is a great read and I found it hard to put down. By itself it can be read but it is better if read as the conclusion to the Pendragon series.revt54
I love this author and series, however, I received the mass media edition (which was not in the description) so this copy does not match my other books in the series- which is very important to me. I would not have bought this copy if I had know this and will be reselling this copy and buying another one.wcsalis

8. Le Morte D'arthur – King Arthur And The Legends Of The Round Table

Product Details:
About the book from the incredible wizardry of merlin to the passion of sir lancelot, these tales of arthur and his knights offer epic adventures with the supernatural as well as timeless battles with our own humanity. features a new afterword. revised reissue. book synopsis from the incredible wizadry of merlin to the passion of gwynevere and sir lancelot, these tales of king arthur and his knights of the round table offer epic adventures with the supernatural as well as timeless battles with our own humanity. in a time when there were damsels in distress to save and mythical dragons to slay, king arthur and his knights were there to render justice in the face of any danger. keith baine's splendid rendition of le morte d'arthur faithfully preserves the original flavor of malory's masterpiece–that of banners and bloodshed, knights and ladies, christians and sorcerers, sentiment and savagery. it remains a vivid medieval tapestry woven about a central figure who symbolizes the birth of an age of chivalry. includes an introduction by robert graves and an afterword by christopher cannon about the author sir thomas malory was born in approximately 1410 and is believed to have been a knight serving under the earl of warwick. for a few years he was a member of parliament but ultimately spent several long terms in prison for a variety of crimes, including robbery and assault. he completed le morte d'arthur, the first great english prose epic, in newgate prison around 1469-70, shortly before his death. the book was eventually published in 1485 by william caxton, the first english printer. keith baines was born in london, england. he studied at private schools in london and hampshire, at the royal academy of music, and at university college, london. he fought in world war ii, and after his discharge, he turned to his main interest, poetry. mr. baines's poems appeared in periodicals both in the united states and the united kingdom. he died in 1986.
Reviews:
Lover reading about King Arthur.JESSICA
We are reading Le Morte D'Arthur in my Medieval Humanities class. This edition is quite readable and affordable. There are many versions–from Medieval times to the present–of the King Arthur stories. But Thomas Mallory is arguably the best author and compiler of these accounts. For a trade paperback, uncluttered with extras, this is the best edition I have found.Ben
9. The Fall Of Arthur [Book]

Product Details:
Tolkien into the legends of arthur, king of britain, may well be regarded as his finest and most skillful achievement in the use of old english alliterative meter, in which he brought to his transforming perceptions of the old narratives a pervasive sense of the grave and fateful nature of all that is told: of arthur's expedition overseas into distant heathen lands, of guinevere's flight from camelot, of the great sea battle on arthur's return to britain, in the portrait of the traitor mordred, in the tormented doubts of lancelot in his french castle.unhappily, the fall of arthur was one of several long narrative poems that tolkien abandoned. he evidently began it in the 1930s, and it was sufficiently advanced for him to send it to a very perceptive friend who read it with great enthusiasm at the end of 1934 and urgently pressed him, "you simply must finish it!" but in vain: he abandoned it at some unknown date, though there is evidence that it may have been in 1937, the year of publication of the hobbit and the first stirrings of the lord of the rings. years later, in a letter of 1955, he said that he "hoped to finish a long poem on the fall of arthur," but that day never came.associated with the text of the poem, however, are many manuscript pages: a great quantity of drafting and experimentation in verse, in which the strange evolution of the poem's structure is revealed, together with narrative synopses and significant tantalizing notes. in these notes can be discerned clear if mysterious associations of the arthurian conclusion with the silmarillion, and the bitter ending of the love of lancelot and guinevere, which was never written.

More of the creative genius of J.R.R. Tolkienjdp-dpr-e9eyhzxh
IN PRESENTATION QUALITY – OUTSTANDING. CONTENTS, NOT TO MY PREFERENCE & THEREFOR UNABLE TO COMMENT ON QUALITY OF 'The Fall of Arthur.' The Hobbit & Lord of the Rings have been a favourite of mine since I was 11 or 12…..I am now 50, need I say more
Anything from J.R.R. Tolken is a great read and anything about King Arthur as well. This book is a great addition to have by J.R.R. Tolken. A book of poems put together of how the fall of King Arthur came about but one J.R.R Tolken himself never finished. A must read.Natasha

The newly crowned king arthur is unsure of himself; worse, the people are unsure of him. too many people want the throne, and treachery is everywhere. merlin must do something before the king is betrayed, or murdered, or–worst of all–gets married. so merlin magically places a sword into a slab of rock, lets it be known that whosoever removes the blade will rule all of england, and invites any man who would dare, to try to pull out the sword.after a bit of showmanship, arthur will draw the blade (with a little magical help, of course), and the people will rally around the young king.except someone else pulls the sword out first. . . .
Reviews:
I enjoy reading different "versions" of the King Arthur legend that individual authors write. This book was a wonderfully creative adaptation of the story of the Sword in the Stone. The author borrowed pieces of the legend to tell her own story. The author didn't just tell the "facts" of the story, she made the characters come alive with her descriptions of their personalities and appearance (Morgause's elven locks of hair, for example). She vividly described the locations where the story took place: the landscape, the buildings, even the furniture (Arthur's uncomfortable throne, for example). I enjoyed reading this book. It was an easy read (this book may have been written for young adults, but that wasn't obviously stated, and that certainly didn't detract from it in any way) and I was having so much fun reading it that I found it hard to put down. I'm happy to add this book to my King Arthur collection.momtojandd
This is a good story. The characters and story line are easy to follow. It has a little mystery and magic. I recommend this book for anyone who likes a good story. This is one of my favorite books.
This is a imaginative fun filled read.vn6752.4wfukjm
15. Arthur's Tooth [Book]
Product Details:
Arthur writes a story: what makes a story entertaining? that's the question arthur asks himself when mr. ratburn gives a creative writing assignment to the class. when d.w. yawns through arthur's first story, he worries that his tale isn't exciting enough. is the setting too humdrum? maybe he needs to research his subject more thoroughly. with every new angle, arthur's story takes one more hilarious step further away from his original idea — but is the end result really the tale he wants to tell?
Reviews:
Some of my grandchildren are 5 and seven–prime ages for visits from the "Tooth Fairy". This book caught my attention. The character Arthur is nonthreatening. The series is funny but thought provoking. It gives the young reader, or child being read to, a means to give words to his own feelings, fears, etc., and provides positive solutions without preaching. (Like sneaking vegetables into the soup–or the smoothie) The solutions don't revolve around being wealthy, physical attractiveness, or sneaky or mean. What's not to love?!bzmorales
My kids absolutley love Aurther! An this is an absolute must for the kids book collecion. 16. The Quest Of The Holy Grail [Book]

Product Details:
Composed by an unknown author in early thirteenth-century france, the quest of the holy grail is a fusion of arthurian legend and christian symbolism, reinterpreting ancient celtic myth as a profound spiritual fable. it recounts the quest of the knights of camelot – the simple perceval, the thoughtful bors, the rash gawain, the weak lancelot and the saintly galahad – as they journey through danger and temptation to reach the elusive holy grail. but only one of them is judged worthy to see the mysteries within the sacred vessel, and look upon the ineffable. enfused with tragic grandeur and an aura of mysticism, the quest is an absorbing and radiant allegory of man's perilous search for divine grace, and had a profound influence on later arthurian romances and versions of the grail legend.for more than seventy years, penguin has been the leading publisher of classic literature in the english-speaking world. with more than 1,700 titles, penguin classics represents a global bookshelf of the best works throughout history and across genres and disciplines. readers trust the series to provide authoritative texts enhanced by introductions and notes by distinguished scholars and contemporary authors, as well as up-to-date translations by award-winning translators.
Reviews:
Anyone trying to read the original version in Old French will find this translation into English invaluable. The introduction gives concise useful information about the work and there some notes on the text at the back. Forget your modern exponents of the grail legend – this is the real McCoy! I do not think there are any other translations into English available.bbur1248

I'm a big fan of Arthurian legend and Merlin and this book didn't dissapoint, for its age, the visuals are impressive (especially the dragons) and the story is told in an expressive, detailed and lively way. Great version of the Merlin/Vortigern tale and my son loved hearing it tonight at bedtime. A magical read.swya1558

Reviews:
This book contains good information about the Grail Myths, related characters, and their symbolism, but it also blends this with a typical, eclectic "new age" mishmash of non-related information (Hindu Chakras? The lost continent of Atlantis? Seriously?) the whole being cobbled together as a "secret tradition".lichtpriester
The real deal when it comes to the compelling Arthurian saga. Essential reading for serious students of the legendstartarotspinning
