Okay so my son is 7. He’s worn these shoes before when he was younger but now he’s saying they’re too hard to get his foot in. The top strap is not as flexible when unstrapping / loosening because the velcro is too thick to pull out which frustrates him. Always trying to adjust the elastic laces for a more comfortable fit. If your son wants something to just slip his foot in easily these may not be it. Cushion is average.CJoy

I love the Jefferson shoe line. These are my kids' staple summer footwear. They cover their toes and allow them to run around and play while also being total water friendly for wading pools, the beach, or sprinklers. The kids love them. I am usually a huge fan of these shoes. They are perfect for water and play and they are so versatile. That being said, I find the sizing to be incredibly inconsistent. My son is currently a size 12 in most shoes. I ordered size 13 to grow into for my son in white, they were huge on his feet. Like too big to try to wear now. So I returned them and ordered one size down, 12 but in black. The black are so small they fit tighter than his 11s that he’s stretched out from wear. I looked at these shoes for months and finally pulled the trigger. I'm a big fan of my other Merrell products so I had high expectations for these. Mostly I was looking forward to wearing them on an upcoming trip to Hawaii for some light hiking and beach walking. Unfortunately, after I received them, I went for a 10 minute walk and was bleeding on both of my heels from the cup rubbing at the top. I did some research and found a few other reviews of that happening online. Wanting to still love them, I cut the heel cups down so they they did not angle as much inward to rub my heel. First problem solved. Excited to try them again I took them for another walk around the neighborhood after my heels healed all the way. Unfortunately, within 10 minutes they had created a rub spot on the side of one of my feet. Heel was fine. So it seems no matter what these are going to cause sore spots on my feet. What a great gap-filling piece of footwear—when you don't need shoes because they're too hot or you'll be getting wet, but you don't want to wear slippers that can slip right off or sandals that don't provide full coverage—this is the shoe you want. It's not just a "water shoe," it works for many circumstances. I walked on the beach easily, walked on concrete sidewalks for at least five miles across three days…the tread didn't wear down too much, and it felt like walking in comfortable sneakers…with the benefit of being able to hose off sand or anything else. Would 100% use these for backpacking trips requiring creek and river crossings — a great alternative to Crocs…not knocking Crocs, they're great shoes, but these provide a different fashion aesthetic and seem like they'll be reliable for backpacking purposes/hanging around camp with or without socks. Runs super large. Buy 1.5 sizes down! Usually wear 9.5 had to buy 8 in this shoe. Fits perfectly.FreshRancher
I can't overstate how much I love my Merrell Hydro Mocs! I bought my first pair 2 seasons ago to replace a worn out pair of Crocs. The Hydro Mocs were better in every way (fit, form, comfort, and style). I wear them EVERYWHERE. Doesn't matter if it's to the beach, a walk, camping, hiking, or just running errands. Just slip on and go! After my original pair of Hydro Mocs started wearing thin on the bottom, I ordered TWO more pairs to replace them. Which leads me to my only two suggestions to improve this already amazing piece of footwear. First, a small drainage hole on the bottom of the heel cap would be a welcome addition for draining the shoe while engaged in water sports. Second, I would love to see a more rugged version of this shoe with a tougher or more durable rubber on the bottom for sharp rocky terrain.Kyle C.

I purchased these water shoes for my daughter because we have a pool, she takes swim lessons and we live in the water during the summer months. I was so disappointed. The rubber sole stated falling apart after one use. After wearing a few times there are big chunks of the rubber missing. They look like they were chewed on by a dog.
