I bought this book hoping to find some recipes for gluten free baked goods. Because I am gluten intolerant, and use many of Bob's Red Mill alternative types of flour, such as corn, white rice, brown rice and potato starch, I assumed that a Bob's Red Mill recipe book would include recipes using those types of flours. In that regard, I was very disappointed. It only has a handful of "gluten free" recipes. There are still many recipes, however, for those who can eat baked goods made with wheat flour. This book does bring in some new ideas about different, supposedly healthier, baking ingredients, for example different types of flour and some gluten free. However, it barely at all addresses the two big problems in baking that make it 'unhealthy' – fat and sugar, and, as regards sugar in particular, suggests fewer alternatives than many other more standard current cook books do. I was very disappointed about this. Having said that, the book is beautifully laid out: clean full pages each of instructions and pictures and lots of them. If you regard it as just a book about baking then it is a nice one, lots of ideas and techniques suggested. Coming from the Martha Stewart family, it is also likely that the recipes will end up tasting very good too.cleveremma

I was excited to get this book as a gift but I’ve been very disappointed. They recipes are pretty vague which isn’t helpful when you’re making a new or complex bake. I’ve made a few things but recently made the brownie meringue cake and it was a total failure. I had to remake the meringue because the instructions were not clear (and set me up for failure) and the brownie was so under baked that it completely fell apart when I tried to put it together. It makes me sad to disk like a GBBO book so much but I do not recommend you buy this.LBS
