20 Best Barbie Gifts (2023 Update)

Of all the Looks dolls, I was most nervous to receive this one. Why? Because every single photo I saw of her in the box showed that the doll was packaged terribly. The promo pictures always looked amazing: big, wavy hair with lots of volume. But every single boxed photo of her showed the hair packaged into the box flat, pulled down straight, with all of the waves and volume yanked out completely, and just totally flat hair on top. By a stroke of complete luck, my doll arrived with big, wavy hair in the box that was not pulled flat against her head. She is perfect. But Mattel needs to read this review and realize that its quality control is extremely lacking for the dolls it sends out of its factories these days. I feel bad for everyone who received a poorly packaged doll, because it looks like half, if not more, of them ended up poorly packaged. I just lucked out.AnneeCarbee

Much better than a standard non-poseable doll! Comes with a basic stand which is nice for display. Her hair seems softer or a different texture than a standard Barbie so it is easier for my daughter to brush. My only issue is that there is not consistency in the color/tone of her skin. The joints are a different tone than the limbs. Overall a great addition to the Barbie line. We will definitely be adding a few more to the Dreamhouse.heritagechild

My girls, ages 8 and 11, really enjoy playing with the Made to Move line of Barbies. They enjoy the realistic movements and poses of these dolls in addition to the fashion forward wardrobe. The brown hair on this doll is a favorite because it matches the natural hair color that my girls have. A few strands of hair came out upon brushing but there is plenty of hair on Barbie's head so it isn't noticeable at all and doesn’t affect play. Her makeup is "just right" with enough to look well dressed but not too much to look overdone. A bag or case for accessories would be a nice touch but my girls borrowed one from a previous Barbie set and it worked great. The doll is beautiful!. She looks just like Gloria. The colors of the outfit are very nice. Love the boots the print is gorgeous.. I received this doll from Mattel to review today. I'm not a huge Gloria Estefan fan per se, but this doll has a truly beautiful face sculpt, and the details on the clothing and accessories are really nice. The boots are super fun and the little bolo jacket is adorable. Underneath is a cute gold cropped tank top, and layered plastic gold necklace. I love her gold hoop earrings too (always a fan of earrings on the dolls). My only complaint (and why I didn't give her 5 stars), is that her hair was pretty funky in the back when I took her out of the box, and her belt is a bit reminiscent of the Kristin Wiig as Cheetah Barbie's skirt. The belt feels a little cheap next to the other accessories, but that's just my opinion. I'll probably trim her hair in the back for my photo shoots – but not sure what to do about that yet. Overall for the price point I think she's a good deal. She's got a nice, unique face sculpt, killer boots, and if you're a Gloria Estefan fan, get one to keep in the box, and one to play with!barbiewrangler

We love this Extra Fancy girl. Lots of fun accessories. My girls feel the pet is looks more like a stuffed animal then a pet and wish that it came soft and squishy. The dress is beautiful but it had some wrinkles and creases in it. We have let it sit and a few have relaxed. (Maybe because the weather has been so hot) Its not as bad now as it was when taken out of the box. Her hair is really soft and very long. My girls want to cut it shorter but we are holding off on that right now. One likes the pink in the hair and the other does not. Overall we love adding this girl to our collection.Tammy R

Oh my heavens!! My little girl absolutely was in awe with this Barbie. Her favorite color is pink anyways, so when this doll arrived – she was so excited to be able to open it up! This Barbie is EXTRA fancy! Fun Barbie for girls to play with. I can see they're trying to cater to tweens but my 5 year olds loved her. They were excited because she's so pink. My daughter loves this Barbie Chelsea Can Be Playset Fashion Designer Doll. Her grandmother and I both have sewing machines and she loves to ‘help’. This set lets her pretend play until she is old enough to learn to sew since she wants to be just like mommy. The accessories are adorable and she loves pretending that they are real tools. This little pack was great! It came with a little easel with drawing and writing on it as an accessory for fun classroom pretend fun! My girls loved this small pack. It did not come with too many things and it’s great and simple pack to add to an already existing set or doll house. This Chelsea pack also had accessories such as a small bear. It was hard to keep track of the accessories since they were small so I would not recommend for children who put toys or others things in their mouths as this can be a choking hazard. It did not hold my girls attention for too long but when matched with other doll sets that they own they added the accessories of the globe to make a classroom like environment for the other Chelsea dolls they own. My daughters loved this addition to their growing Barbie collection. It was a refreshing twist to have a doll with a sewing hobby as my daughters have recently been exploring this hobby as well. Super cute set with tons of accessories and clothing. My daughter loves putting the Barbies in the tube with water to reveal their colors. I like the tie dye concept except my daughter unwrapped the clothing and we had to color them separately and figure out a different way. Sometimes the colors come out a tad light. So the color needs to stay on longer and not rinsed off. But we had a blast and it was definitely unique. Would recommend!Krazycow38

Messy, but fun. This activity has a lot of aspects my daughter really loved. First off, you can't go wrong with any of the color reveal dolls. The process is magical, and this comes with two and a number of clothing and accessory surprises. Next there is the creativity that can be explored in the clothing design process. She enjoyed making outfits for both the dolls, although the process wasn't exactly like tie dying, it was also not so messy my 8 year old couldn't clean it up on her own with little supervision. My 7yr old loves playing with this tie dye fashion set. We did this outside to prevent and messes and I think that worked best. We undid all the packages first to reveal all the accessories which include shoes, purses, sunglasses, headbands, bracelets and more. Next we filled up the plastic tub and shook the dyes. It was super helpful that everything was provided for us including the tweezers! I let my daughter do the decorating and she had a blast making her own fashion. I probably should’ve changed the water in between as the water turned blue green but the clothes still look great. The blue is overpowering so I suggest a little blue dye to go a long way. We left them out to dry and then color changed Barbie and Chelsea. The clothes dried a little stiff but softened up over time. We love the matching tie dye bathing suits. Barbie was a little harder to get the pink dissolvable paint off of but we managed! I like how Barbie’s arms are a full circle out to help her pose and swim better. The Barbie is wonderful, Target however put a giant sticker over the front of the packaging of a collectors doll. Removing the sticker has damaged the packaging and the doll is sold out.VeryIrritated

I was happy to receive my package so quickly. My disappointment was that the plastic covering was damaged, however the contents were still intact. You could tell someone ripped off the cover due to the rips along the sides and top. It would have been nice to be informed of this and given the option to refuse it in this condition especially when it’s being given as a gift.Mare

This set was even more than I hoped for! As a Barbie collector this looks very authentic to the original Malibu Barbie set! The quality is outstanding. It looks just like the original! I got this set a month or so ago for my kids and the dolls are fantastic. It's really a collectors set, but my girls wanted to open it up and play, so that's what we did. Each doll came with it's own display stand and beach towel and were labeled with their name. All the dolls were well made and beach ready in their swim suits. The doll is very pretty but the one I got had bad eye screening. The eyes looked crossed and parts of the eye makeup peeled off. The lipstick smeared etc. But it was very easy to return the doll back. Target was not able to replace the doll since she is pretty popular.GCC

Tina Turner is a true American icon. I remember dancing in front of our floor model tv in the 80’s when Tina Tuner graced the screen. If you are a fan, I highly recommend this doll. The doll looked great but the seller on Walmart.com did not pack well. It does not work well sending something like a barbie box in just mylar type packaging with no protection/cardboard or bubble wrap. Please make sure your sellers on the website take more care in packaging. I had to return due to doll display box being damaged and could not give as the gift it was ordered from. The seller also never contacted me when i messaged them regarding the issue and still hasn't, its been a week since i messaged right after i received the package and took photos. Walmart was great and i already got my refund after i dropped the damaged item off at their customer service. I have no issue with Walmart but am very disappointed in the seller, no communication and unsafe packaging.jim

This doll should be on everyone's shelf because the significance in history. The doll is definitely an inspiring women collection piece. Because of this purchase, I am now looking for more inspiring women dolls. After buying this doll, I went ahead and purchased the Ella Fitzgerald and First Black 40th Anniversary dolls as well. Also, thank you for the reduced price. It was marked down from about $30 to $20. My doll and packaged arrived in perfect condition. She is beautiful and to my surprise, she has holes in the bottom of her feet to attach her to her stand. I did not realize this detail when I purchased her. Her clothing is lovely and well made, especially the gold brocade dress which is reminiscent of the Mattel Barbie clothing from the 50’s and 60’s. The packaging of the Barbie Extra 20 is beautiful. The colors are bright. The doll and accessories are well attached. The knit jacket is well made and the seams are covered which is nice to avoid fraying. The hair of the doll is a bit messy once taken out of the packaging. The accessories are cute and detailed. I was disappointed with the white necklace. The "Barbie" print is not centered. The legs of the doll have two textures. It's part shiny and matte. It doesn't look good and inconsistent with the rest of the doll's body. I like that it has some articulation. I can position it to sit and bend the arms. The butterfly details are nice. Used this product on a normal play day at the house. Some things we liked for one were the new tabs on the package for ease of opening. Made it easy for my 3 year old to open with minimal assistance. Another thing we liked were the accessories with all the bright colors. The bright colors caught her attention and kept her focused. The joints in the arms and legs were an added bonus. My daughter liked that she could pose her the way she wanted. There were a couple things my daughter did not care for. Some of the accessories are not removable i.e: the earrings, the butterfly clips and the butterflies on the sweater. With the butterfly clips in the hair not being removable, it made it hard for my daughter to style the way she preferred. Despite showing various types of Chelsea dolls online, The Warehouse won't send you the doll you order, but rather the doll they think you should have. They select a doll randomly and send it to you and hope you won't complain. It makes a big difference to a little girl or boy which Chelsea doll they get. first off, this is HUGE. definitely read the product dimensions to ensure you have enough space for it. the house folded is roughly the same height and half the length of it opened. that being said, this is made of very cheap and fragile plastic, and to top it all off the assembly was horrible. theres cheap plastic rods you have to drive through the hinges to made it functional, but those rods bend easily and theres much margin for errors if you dont align it perfectly. i paid $82 for this, and hardly consider it worth for that price, let alone the $130 they expect at full price.M9sprayuser

First of all, this was a big box of happy! My 9-year-old put it together, using the easy to follow instructions and a bit of help from me on some of the snap-together parts. The whole house comes together in about 30 minutes (perhaps less for an adult). The snap-together construction made it easy to do! The stickers needed an adult for proper alignment, but a steady older kid could do them. The house is two stories, featuring a kitchen, entertainment room, "patio space", bedroom, and bathroom. Each room has cool movable features: the fridge and stove open; the bathroom storage opens; the beds fold up for storage. There are stickers inside the fridge and bathroom storage that make it look full. Many things, like the bathroom storage, pivot so that you can change the way the room looks or is being used. My girls really liked that it came with a toilet, for authenticity, and stairs. A bunch of furniture came with the product: four stackable chairs, a table, the toilet… All the furniture can be stored, messily, inside the house. The whole thing folds up to a nice compact size and is carry-able by a 9-year-old. The girls played with it for hours and hours, making up various stories, even including the dream house itself (from the tv show). Standard Barbie dolls can only just stand up in it and they do fit the furniture. Other princesses were invited to stay and worked well. Smaller dolls had a fun time, but didn't fit the furniture. My favorite part was the accessories: there's a blow dryer, blender, cups, and plates, among others. Each piece has a handle on it so you can clip it to the doll's hand. Also, the plates, blender, and cups feature a circle on the bottom that allows them to stick into designated areas in the house such as the table or the stove. This way, the pieces don't fall all over the place during play or storage. This is a great product! The fact that it folds up for storage makes me happy and the girls have already spent hours of creative play with the house.ChickenOhioMom

I received an Ella Fitzgerald Barbie doll from the Inspiring Women Series for free in exchange for my unbiased review. This Barbie doll came in a beautiful collectible box, the doll has very nice details looks close to the real Mrs. Elle Fitzgerald, it also came with a stand and a microphone. My 5 year old daughter loves Barbie and she really liked this doll for her beautiful dress, her painted red nails, and also you can move her arms, hands, and knees but she lost interest within a week because she couldn’t change her hair style and she thought her Ella did not fit in with her rest of her Barbie dolls. She tried to change her Barbie Ella clothes and pretended she could be a distant famous singer aunt but this doll is more curvaceous than her regular Barbies so she could not put on any other Barbie clothes on her. I think it is a great Barbie to have if you are a fan/collector of Barbie to display her but I don’t find this doll to be appealing to little girls that are used to their regular modern Barbies.Cocochies

Ella Fitzgerald is definitely an Inspiring Woman and meant to be part of this series from Mattel. The doll is molded in the fuller body as Ella and the face is a good likeness of her in the beginning of her career. This chopper is nicely made. It's not machanical or battery powered, so my kids have to use their imagination when they play with it (which is not a negative thing to me). They don't play with the chopper all the time, but when they do, they have lots of fun. The seat belts work and barbie dolls fit nicely inside.
