20 Best Bath Soap For Hard Water (Jan 2023 Update)

I’ve been using my shea moisture velvet skin bar soap for a couple of days and I’m totally impressed by my skin results. My skin is normally dry so after using this soap, my skin feels soft and hydrated. This bar soap also smells so good with the natural ingredients so it doesn’t irritate the skin. Everyone in my household uses it so it’s good for men or women. I love the size of the bar so I don’t have to worry about it running out as fast as other soap bars. This is a new favorite that I will keep on using and I would highly recommend this soap bar to anyone with sensitive skin.Nika23

The color is very attractive. I haven’t really seen a purple bar of soap before and this one is so nice. It smells amazing when you first open it. The soap was easy to lather on my washcloth and rinsed off well without any residue. It left my skin feeling amazing and very smooth. I didn’t have any irritation while using this soap bar. I’ve used rice water in my hair but never on my skin til now and it definitely makes it feel moisturized. The size of the bar is nice too. This velvet skin varso is very moisturizing to skin. I used to spark soap with my shower net and he has a really good lather and the scent lingers on your body for hours after the shower. Because I do have dry skin I’m usually very particular about the soaps that I use but this one blew my mind because even though it was scented I did actually moisturize my skin. Most bar soaps dry up with him but this one does not. He definitely lose my skin feeling soft and smooth.Jhmesico

Love this soap. In our new home we do not have a soft water machine which makes your skin feel soft when showering or bathing. This soap is a great replacement. And the smell is invigorating. I love all of the Avalon Organics hand soap products. I've been living a non-toxic life for close to 15 years now ever since I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, Lyme & co-infections. What originally started out as trying to find ways to wean myself off of conventional, allopathic medicine onto natural alternatives through diet and supplementation, eventually lead me to realize that what you put on your skin is just as important as what you put into your body since your skin is one of your largest organs, other than your fascia. Needless to say, I now use organic products whenever possible, have excluded things like nnEMF in my home, blue light exposure, do not use any toxic cleaning products, drink structured water, etc. etc. I have also made a full recovery from not only my autoimmune disease but my Lyme infections as well and without any conventional products. I know this is just hand soap but every little bit counts toward living a healthy life, free of toxic exposures, especially today! The only reason I gave this product a 4 out of 5 stars is that it still ranks moderately for toxic ingredients on EWG's Skin-Deep website but it's only a borderline rating of 3 and I don't love that it has alcohol in it. There are probably better options out there that are EWG-verified but when I can find this product on sale, I will buy it because I do love its lather and most of this brand's natural scents. I think I personally liked the Rosemary scent a little better than the lemon, whereas my husband enjoyed the lemon a little more. I really like this soap! It isn’t harsh on my hands that tend to run very dry. It has a great smell to it and isn’t overpowering. I really appreciate the fact this soap uses organic ingredients and is so conscious of the products they are using. Knowing that this soap is made with good ingredients is reassuring and gives me no hesitation using it. The bottle is also made with one hundred percent recycled material and is also biodegradable. For me when I want to buy a hand soap the first thing is that it shouldn’t make my hand dry. To be honest this is my first time trying Avalon hand soap and I am loving it. This hand soap is made with combination of lemon essential oil, chamomile and vitamin E which are all natural ingredients and keep your hand moisturized and clean. This company makes a really good old-fashioned bar soap, free of nasty chemicals and with really wonderful natural scents to boot. The soap lathers good, moisturizes your skin really well, doesn’t sting like some natural real soap bars do (probably pH adjusted a bit with citric acid so it’s not so alkaline), and the combination of scents are to die for. The only thing I wish is the scents lasted a bit longer on my skin, but I believe that’s because they use natural essential oils and they simply don’t linger as long as synthetic fragrances. I had the urge to start using organic soaps this new year and I started with crate 61. I got the 3 pack lavender scented one and that was the best decision I've ever made this year lol. It smells so good and it's so refreshing, I didn't wanna leave the shower. One problem I have with this is that it shrinks quickly. I use this soap to wash dishes since I'm trying to cut down on how much plastic I use in my day-to-day life. It is an amazingly good dishwashing detergent! Gets stuff really clean, rinses with little to no residue, and while it smells nice and fresh, the scent doesn't remain on my utensils or plates. I also use it to make DIY mopping solution (75% water, 15% rubbing alcohol, 10% this soap bar–I grate the soap into the water/alcohol solution and let it sit for a day before it's ready to use. You can also add essential oils to increase the cleaning efficacy of the solution.) This soap is also incredibly useful when you're camping or traveling. It works as a laundry bar, body soap, and (as previously mentioned) a dishwashing soap. I don't use it on my face or hair often–it can dry out my skin and hair, but I have friends who do use it all over and are happy with the results. I will say on the rare occasions I've used it to wash my face, it's never broken me out or left a rash–my skin just feels tight afterward. I love Dr Bonner’s soaps. I use the Rose, lavender and The Sal-Suds multi purpose cleaner, (see my other reviews). Gentle. Nice natural scent. Not over powering like fake perfume additives. I’ve tried several scents of Dr. Bronners soaps, but first time buying the rose. I had seen the ads on Facebook and became interested. My Son had a subscription and shared a couple bars with me. I fell in love with this product so I purchased 25 bars (better buy for the money). I began to run low on the bars so my plan was to order again. But before I order I decided to read some of the reviewers posted by other user and see if the produce had stood the test of time. The reviews were very disappointing and made me hesitant weather to make my next purchase. But I decided to go ahead and make the purchase…sad to say the comments by other consumers was correct. The new bar is no where the same. I still have a few bars from my original purchase and so I compared old to new. If I could add pics I would. You can see the difference. The older (1st purchase) were more!!! The oatmeal was whole which was perfect for exfoliating, there was more sand in the bar, the fragrance was amazing and the product made my skin feel smooth, fresh and clean. 1. The newer bars have very tiny peace’s of oatmeal which barely feels like there is no exfoliating going on when you use the bar. 2. It feels as if there is no sand in the bar either. 3. The fragrance of the bar is almost nothing!!! 4. The bar MELTS LIKE A SNOW-CONE IN THE DESERT!!! I used a bar and in 4 days it was over 1/2 gone and breaking into small pieces. 5. The ingredients have changed, PINE ESSENTIAL OIL is no longer in the ingredients. I can’t begin to tell you how disappointed I am with this product. I’m really sorry to write a bad review. But the cedar Citrus is absolutely Putrid! I would not recommend this scent at all. It’s a really, really potent smell and is almost nauseating. I will actually have to throw the entire bar out because I can’t even have it in the washroom or any other room because the smell is too strong. I would buy the other scents again without a doubt though. Fresh falls is wonderful as well as birch wood breeze. Amazing scents. Just be cautious of the cedar citrus.Diane H.

I’d review your product but I can’t! I ordered it October 1st and it is now 20 days later and I still have not received it!! I only live 3-4 hours from your place in Toledo Ohio and so far USPS has shipped it from you to Indiana, back to Columbus Ohio, back to Dayton Ohio. It’s taken 2 bars of soap over 20 days to make it only half way here!!! WTH?!? I ordered something from China the same day and it’s HERE already!?! That’s 6,000 miles away and had to go through customs and it got here before your soap coming from Hebron KY which is only 175 miles! The last time I ordered from you USPS shipped it from Hebron to Indiana then up to Wisconsin, back down to Columbus then over to Dayton, up to Detroit and finally to Toledo?!? UGH! Look, the soap is great other than being a little soft and the grit etc is perfect. But for god’s sake for what people pay for a bar ship it with UPS or Fed Ex. It may be a little more than USPS but your customer’s will be happier when they get their product sooner, use it quicker and order more often! I have chronically itchy skin and bought this as a last ditch effort not to scratch my skin off this summer between bug bites and the chronic itchiness. I was surprised that I felt like it actually works. I use it a couple times a week and it does wonders to stop my skin from feeling like it is crawling. Thrilled to find another gentle bar soap option through Grove that is soothing and calming for sensitive skin. It has a very light aroma from the Tea Tree Oil and Rosemary leaf extract which is very refreshing but not irritating to the nose. Bonus it uses RSPO Certified Palm oil! I purchased Jack Black's Turbo Wash Cleanser for my brother at Christmas, because it's such a no-fuss, multi-use product he can keep in his gym bag. While reading the reviews, I kept reading about women who loved the scent of this line from Jack Black, so I decided to try this soap for myself. It's pricey for a bar of soap, but it's huge and it lathers richly and quickly, so it really does last: I've almost finished the bar now, but I've used it daily since mid-December! It does exfoliate my winter skin, but it isn't at all moisturizing; without applying lotion right out of the shower, my skin would feel dry and itchy. But I routinely use this to wash and then lather my skin with coconut oil after showering, and my skin has remained soft and smooth all winter. Best of all is the scent! It really is uplifting in the morning, and it has a complex sophistication about it that makes my bathroom smell expensive and stimulates feelings of well-being: like walking into a bougie spa and inhaling deeply. I bought a single Turbo Body bar years ago and it’s the best bar soap ever. When the 3-packs showed up, I bought it and was disappointed. The outside wrappers smell nice but the bars pretty much have no scent. I bought another 3pack last year due to the amazing price and it’s the same thing. I don’t even use them anymore. After one wash I can feel a difference in my hair. We live out in the country and use county water and you can smell the metals in it as you shower. I can't really even color my hair anymore because the water strips it out inside 3 weeks time. My complaint is that my bottles leaked everywhere and I lost over half my product in shipping. When I pulled them out of their box, both lids were completely unscrewed and product was everywhere. Hair care. Having hard well water is definitely something that had been hard on my hair. Found this product a couple months ago and really love it. The directions say to use daily, but I find it is a little drying to use that often. This is the best thing I’ve found that works while still using hard water to clean. This hair care set has been wonderful in helping to counteract the hard water where I live! I use the shampoo and conditioner usually 1-3 times a week (2x on average) and it works very well, keeping my hair silky and mineral-free. Please be aware that the treatment packets can be quite rough on hair, though – more hair tends to fall out than usual after using one of the packets. For me, the 4 packets that come in this set are perfect for dealing with the buildup that occurs if I've only used the shampoo and conditioner 1x per week for a few weeks, but I would (personally) caution against regular use. But as long as I use the shampoo and conditioner regularly, there's no issue with this! Use 2-3 times per week is perfect for negating the effects of hard water, and keeping my hair feeling healthy! This castile soap is too hard for my liking. Not enough lather and not creamy at all, you have to work to get the soap on your hands. I like the subtle sent though (therefor 3 stars) and the price is good. With a little bit of work it does what a soap has to do. I don't like waste so I will be using it in the kitchen (otherwise I would throw it out). I'm used to castile soap from dr. Bronner's and there is no comparison to me. Back to dr. I like Kirk's because it's one of the few soaps that will rinse out. You can even use it to dislodge common soaps so that THEY'LL rinse out without requiring 50 gallons of water. I bought this product on a whim and have been using it for a little over a week. I didn’t have any expectations going in but I have never been so soft and smooth. I feel like my legs are smoother after shaving and overall my skin is just silkier. The pump is bothersome as some others mentioned but it doesn’t bother me so much since the product has been so wonderful. I don’t worry about the lather because I don’t solely use this product as apart of my routine. I coat my skin in this and let it sit for a few minutes then rinse and follow up with a moisturizing then oil body wash. You hardly get any product from each pump and it doesn't lather, so you really need a *lot* of pumps for each wash. I used 50 pumps and that still wasn't enough for one wash. And I am an average sized person. Because it doesn't lather, I feel like it doesn't clean that effectively either (I used a loufah). It also smells like some combination of Dove body wash and some really bad smell. And it seems like that Dove body wash smell is an attempt to mask the bad smell. Though there is no fragrance or masking fragrance listed in the ingredients, so that's strange. And that Dove body wash smell sticks with you even after you leave the shower for a while. I would not buy this again, and I'm considering just throwing it in the trash. I also bought the smoothing Cetaphil body wash in the same order, so hopefully that isn't as bad as this.Alaska

I have been using this for almost a week and I’ve seen a noticeable results for my acne in the arms. It’s just a span of days and my acne are getting disappeared. What I like about it is non-fragrance and very moisturized and gentle for my sensitive skin since I have prone eczema skin. The formula is great and the package can last you a months. Disclaimer is don’t use it everyday because it can cause irritation and just apply it every other day and apply a thick moisturizer to prevent any irritation. I've bought this twice now- my back gets very sweaty which easily causes acne. It significantly improved the first time I bought it, but after a period of not using it it's back… so I'm rebuying lol. It's a very good soap, with a nice subtle herbal/lemon scent. It is drying, but I don't find that to be an issue as I only apply it on my back (I would definitely not recommend use on face). It really is affective at removing sweat and dirt, and with consistent usage the spots on my back are significantly less red and rampant- the ones that are left are much smaller, and dry so I know there's not much underneath the surface. I apply it by foaming up the soap bar on my shower brush which I use to clean my back, so that I can scrub all over the back. Overall, the bar is long lasting and very effective. If you have issues with back acne, it's well worth the price.Lailah

I played college volleyball and I suspect constantly sweating from workouts caused my back to break out so much. I don't really have much facial acne anymore but I still broke out on my back a lot so I tried this soap. I still would get bumps here and there but I think this soap helped dry out a lot more that could've appeared! This soap is very drying so I would use this with a moisturizer. Depends on the user, but I like to feel extremely clean so I ran out pretty quickly, like within a month or so which I find short. But I think I'll order it again and try it with a moisturizer next time! It came in Japanese so I'm not sure what the ingredients are but like I said it was drying so it probably just cleaned up excess oil.Eimanie

This is absolutely one of the most spectacular things I've used on my face! I love this (especially for the price). I bought mine just under 2$ at Walmart. I have seriously sensitive and delicate skin and have tried various different washes and brands; none of them had satisfied all my facial needs like this one. I live in the desert my skin gets real dry and itchy. I prefer antibacterial soap which just dries out the skin worse, lotions somewhat help. Then I saw this. Yeah the smell was overbearing when you first open, but I haven't noticed it since. My skin isn't dried out, it helps prevent those annoying yeast infections from living out in the heat. It works so well my shower floor is slippery after use lol, meaning it does leave a film more than other soaps I've used. It seems to use up quicker than other soaps as well. I purchased a 4-pack of Dove antibacterial beauty bars in order to clean my skin prior to surgery. Others have mentioned they are heavily scented, and that is no understatement — I just took out remaining three unopened boxes to double-check the product name, and I now can smell them from ten feet away. Unnecessary fragrance, however, is not a dealbreaker for me. What is a dealbreaker is an immediate and aggressive allergic reaction. I have never had sensitive skin, but immediately after using this, I break out in hives all over my body that do not respond to OTC antihistamine. The first time this occurred, I thought it was a reaction to surgical glue or anesthesia, but after the second time more than a week later, I see that it is actually the beauty bar. The only other time I’ve had an allergic reaction like this was when I got poison ivy a few years ago. I would exclusively recommend this to enemies.Sparky

I have been a Lever 2000 user for 30 years. Recently they changed their formula and the scent, and I couldn't stand the to use it anymore. I realize that Unilver also makes Dove. Since my family loves Dove, I decided to try Dove's antibacterial soap for the first time and I am not crazy about it. One, it is blue, which was a turn off immediately to me. Second, the fragrance is very obvious to me, (slightly overpowering from what Lever 2000 was) as I was used to the mild fresh scent, until recently that is. I cannot understand why Unilever changed one of their soaps after so many years, yet Dove has been the same for years and years (my family has always used Dove). I will continue to search for an antibacterial soap that I like. I guess if you are into stronger scents in your soap, you may like this, but it doesn't work for me personally.Steph
