1. Batman: Year One [Book]

Product Details:
In 1986, frank miller and david mazzucchelli produced this groundbreaking reinterpretation of the origin of batman—who he is, and how he came to be. sometimes careless and naive, this dark knight is far from the flawless vigilante he is today. in his first year on the job, batman feels his way around a gotham city far darker than the one he left. his solemn vow to extinguish the town’s criminal element is only half the battle; along with lieutenant james gordon, the dark knight must also fight a police force more corrupt than the scum in the streets.batman: year one stands next to batman: the dark knight returns on the mantle of greatest batman graphic novels of all time. timeless in its appeal, frank miller and david mazzucchelli’s masterpiece would stand apart from the crowded comics field even today.this edition includes the complete graphic novel, a new introduction by writer frank miller and a new illustrated afterword by artist david mazzucchelli. completing this collection are over 40 pages of never-before-seen developmental material such as character and layout sketches, sample script pages, sketches, and more that pro-vide a glimpse into the making of this contemporary classic.this volume collects batman #404-407.

Reviews:
This is a collection of the 1986 four-issue series which firmly raised the bar for DC comics in general, and the Batman in particular. This will probably be the work Frank Miller will be remembered for. Here the silliness and camp of the 1960s is forever banished (aside from the occasional whimsy of encounters with Harley Quinn) to be replaced by genuine composition and thought, firmly entrenching the Batman in the dark moodiness the character was meant to inhabit. This movie made the Tim Burton films possible, as well as the triumphs of the DC animated efforts. The jury is still out on whether or not this will stand as the penultimate Batman story, but very little has come along to challenge its position.seteb-35
An awesome book. The jump cuts and use of media figures throughout the book to propel the narrative is superb styling. The art work and angle shots makes it seem like a movie experience. In fact much of the dialogue turns up in latter Batman or Superman movies. Though one of the first graphic novels, it's unique artwork and story line makes it timeless.kramocrut
For any casual or complete fan of batman , this is a must read. With all the recent re- vamps and re- hash's of the batman origin storyline being introduced, it's nice to read something about batman's future. This is in my opinion; the best batman story ever written ( long Halloween, hush , knightfall, death in the family ,the killing joke, year one and the red hood closing that list out) and is so reflective of a world we live in written by the iconic Frank Miller.spauldo36

A necessary addition to any Batman fans collection.Christopher
Walk down Bat-nostalgia Lane with the fan-assisted death of the 2nd Robin, Jason Todd (later resurrected as Red Hood) and the introduction of Robin III/Tim Drake. Throw in some classic Joker insanity, a little Batman v Superman action, the mighty Lady Shiva and the awesome artwork of Jim Aparo (with Mike Mignola/Hellboy covers) and it's a winner. Would be a 5-star except for the minimal extras eg artwork/creator commentaries, etc.Glen

Reviews:
I had never really experienced anything with batman in it until I played this game and it got me hooked. I'm a sucker for dark/psychological games and this is definitely it. I love how it includes scarecrow because he's one of my favorite batman villains. His story is so unique and he's honestly creepy. He'll definitely leave you shaken up in this game. Not only do you get the main storyline but you also get the riddler trophies and interview tapes on the side. I absolutely love finding the tapes because you hear about not only the characters in the game but also ones that aren't in it. (Ex. Mad Hatter) They give you more insight to each character. It may be a few years old and not up to date with graphics but it's definitely worth playing.taylor.k
This is one of my favorite games of all time. Unfortunately, I was sent the Game of the Year edition, even though the listing shows the original release. I was hoping for the non-GOTY edition, since I had wanted to finish all of the achievements, but it's all good! The game/case/manuals were all in mint condition so I can't complain.Daniel J.
Arkham Asylum is a decent game I prefer Arkham Orgins more however I can see why this is a solid batman game. I think any batman fan will really enjoy this one. The story in this game is pretty solid. The gameplay is smooth. Graphics were too bad in its times. If you played any batman video games in the past and haven't played this one all I gotta say is this is a must play.richard .w

Reviews:
To me there is no problem with this item. It arrived about 2 weeks before is said it would which made me extremely happy. It was shipped in good materials and i did not have any problems with this book. I would recommend this Graphic Novel to anyone who loves the Joker and wants to know more about his origin. This is by far the best Graphic Novel i have ever read and has my favorite ambiguous ending ever.scotts_little_shop
Reviewed by: Library Journal This classic, infamous story in the Batman saga has been recolored with a more effectively cooler palette and set into context with an introduction and an afterword. Escaped from Arkham Asylum, villain deluxe Joker shoots Barbara "Batgirl" Gordon as part of his plan to drive her police commissioner father insane. Intending to prove that anyone can go mad after "one bad day" as he describes in his putative origin story, the Joker also kidnaps and torments Commissioner Gordon. But Gordon remains sane, and Batman recaptures the Jokerthe two actually share a laugh at the ambiguous ending. With Barbara Gordon now a paraplegic, the story stands as a chilling profile of madness. The Killing Joke provoked fury among many readers who lamented the disposal of Barbara Gordon as a mere pawn to testosterone; yet Gordon reinvents herself later as superinfohacker Oracle, poster girl for disability empowerment (see Birds of Prey, LJ 7/08). A bonus story at the end paints the quieter, equally chilling madness of a Batman fan fantasizing about killing the superheroa perfect foil for the publicly gaudy Joker. For adult collections.
