I was not crazy about the little packet of recipes that came with it so I was eager to look over Bill West's "The Complete Electric Smoker Cookbook" I figured with over a hundred recipes there had to be something that appealed. I was right. I was pleased to find these recipes concise & easy to understand. Some involve more prep time than others, but all are easy to follow. Just remember rule number one about trying a new recipe, read it not once, but twice. First to see if you understand it and the second to insure you have everything to prepare the dish. As I was growing up if we desired smoked meets we went to a farm about 20 miles away and ordered it & picked up it a few days later. Now I can pull out my trusty smoker and have it any time I want. During the holidays there are so many family gathering with huge amounts of left overs that it is a good way to use them up. The only difference is you are infusing already cooked meats with the flavor. On the other hand you can buy a ham, chicken, turkey breast or fish and also start from a fresh product too. This Cookbook will guide you through the temps to cook them at, how long and suggest what wood to use. Mr. West has worked very hard to make it easy for you. You could spend days working with these recipes which also include sauces, toppings and other condiments and side dishes to compliment them. The possibilities are endless.DelAnne

Product Details:
The simplest way to cook better bbq with techniques for traeger, weber and big green egg smokersfor many, learning how to cook great bbq is a journey that spans years and even decades—often including cooking a lot of bad bbq along the way. wouldn’t it be nice to have a pit master right there in your backyard to coach you through each cook to achieve perfectly tender, juicy meat every single time? chris sussman is here to help.during his own bbq journey, chris discovered that four fundamental principles have the most impact on whether the meat comes out tasting succulent, tender and pleasantly smokey, or dry, rubbery and bland. these are 1) building the right fire with the right fuel; 2) controlling humidity to infuse smoke flavor throughout the meat; 3) managing the ideal “bbq zone” temperature range on the three most popular brands of smokers and 4) recognizing the visual and touch cues that indicate when the meat is ready to pull from the smoker (hint: it’s about way more than cooking to a certain internal temperature). understand and properly execute the nuances of each step, and you will be able to get the results you want with each cook. chris will show you how.packed with photographs, tutorials, pro tips, helpful reference charts and a complete illustrated tutorial that walks you step by step through a whole packer brisket, this book has the answers to all of your bbq questions. chris also shares 50 simple yet unique recipes (and a full-page photograph for each one) to showcase these principles at work in delicious ways. featured recipes include bourbon-glazed smoked baby back ribs, north carolina–style pulled pork, pork belly burnt ends sichuan-style, “no wrap” smoked beef short ribs and habanero and mango–glazed chicken wings. bring this book out to your smoker, and enjoy the journey.

Reviews:
love this book, I just started making my own true bbq two years ago and had no clue where to start as far as method of cooking and recipes to try, so I started getting books from my local library, I found this one to be one of the most helpful, I loved is so much I had to buy it, it gives a very nice run down on the different types of bbq's available how they are used and what the needed equipment is, every recipe I have tried from this book has been fantastic. This book took a lot of the "scary" out of trying my own bbq i.e. the worry of destroying a $30+ dollar piece of meat. There is a recipe in this book that will make the humble hot dog into a crowd pleaser, when you can do that you know you are really onto something good. I totally recommend this book to anyone wanting to try out doing their own true bbq, even seasoned bbqers can get something from this book, new recipes if nothing else.garyfisherz0
I would have liked to have had more information on just the smoking of meats and fish and a few pictures but Smoke and Spice deals mostly with recipes and the barbecuing of meats and fish and no pictures. I did glean some answers to my smoking questions though, so it did make the book worth the purchase price. If you want a great barbecuing book though, this is it, because it covers everything you would ever want to know about the art of babecuing and gives great recipes and terrific barbecuing tips, too.fairasheart
I bought this book as a gift to a friend. My two son's have it and recommended it. My oldest son had a neighbor who did BBQ competition, he was told that of all the smoking books out there he felt this one was the bestwoodch78

All I need at this time with my first smoker.mimib0
I bought it for our son for Christmas. I looked through it and was super excited for him. He has been smoking for the past year, but only simple foods. He will love this book and will want to get started. The only thing I didn't care for, was the fact that the pictures were not in color to show the actual finished product. Other than that, I loved the book.popcorn_momma

Overall the book is good with many various recipes and styles, you will probably learn some tips and tricks for grilling. However, the book is not dedicated to Weber (just has its name) and obviously covers the grilling range of gas, charcoal and other grill styles. It will help you cook food, but it won't tell you how to configure your specific Weber BBQ – not an issue for me but for novices looking for the exact burner settings for cooking X, you will need to refer to the book(s) that come with your BBQ.Mr BBQ Mike
Great book – full of ideas, would be even better if targeted to BBQing/cooking with Weber productsCJ0703
Pros: Good quality paper and binding. Contents cover a full range from Red Meat to Vegetables and Fruit. Suitable as a one off reference bbq book. Cons: None.NORMAN

I am very pleased with this book. I have grilled meat for years but never gotten into smoking meat. This book tells you everything you need to know to get you started from the wood to use, to the temperature to cook at, to the mop to use, etc. Plus, some of the recipes in the book are out of this world. Again, I am very pleased with this book. As a side line, I was recommended this book by a gentleman who holds awards with several groups for his smoked meat.trjproducts
I love what I read in this bbq cookbook! It's exactly what I was looking for–delicious pungent bbq sauces that don't have a lot of sugar in it. I'm diabetic, plus I don't like a lot of sugar in bbq sauces. I don't have a grill so I have to cook the meat over the stove or a slow cooker. You can use liquid smoke in the recipes to give it them a smoky flavor. The cookbook also has some delicious veggie sides as well, such as turnip greens, potato salad and coleslaw. The meats featured in this book are pork, beef, mutton (sheep), chicken and turkey, maybe a few more. Anyway, this is a great book for new beginners or those who are already experienced in the art of barbecuing. And it sounds like a lot of fun too, especially having over family and friends.coralpink7
