This book includes a nice combination of short rhymes with longer (short) stories. They are mostly classics that I grew up with, but there are some new rhymes/stories in there I hadn't heard before. I am enjoying it so far!Kla

I purchased this book as a Christmas Gift for the 2 year old boy next door. I was most impressed with the presentation of the Golden Book, very nicely bound & with the content. When my adult children were little they owned many of the Golden Books & loved them. Many of the stories included in this collection, I was familiar with from reading them to my kids so I knew that the book would be a treasured giftchrisj1944

Great book for children – especially when reading to them while they're really little or when they are going to bed. The stories are the perfect length and don't require the child understand the words coinciding with the pictures.rjturner99

I read this bed time book with both my boys every night and they recited it along word for word (probably still could!). It has a soothing rhythm and includes all kinds of bed time animals- not just the typical baby book animals. This is my "go to" book for all baby showers for sure!MJ

I flipped through this book in another store and immediately fell in love with it. The text and illustrations make it a perfect bedtime book. The verses are rhythmic and repetitive, ideal for infants and toddlers ("It's time for bed, little mouse, little mouse, Darkness is falling all over the house… It's time for bed, little goose, little goose, The stars are out and on the loose."). The illustrations are sweet and calm, like the cover, featuring a parent and little one on each new page. This board book is rather small, but it is a great size for my little ones who are 1 and 2. Walmart offered this book at a better price than the other store, so I ordered it through them and was pleased with the delivery and quality of the product.Dactyl

This book is our bedtime ritual and now our baby starts to roll their head to the side and close their eyes from the second page. It's rhyming and singsong tone make it a perfect soother for bedtime.Simon

I had one of these many, MANY years ago but misplaced it in a move, so I was pleased to find it on Walmart's site! I purchased a new one to read with my family at dinner time each night. The story only takes a minute or two to read, then we have a nice discussion about the story while we eat! This is a wonderful book I would have wanted to have while growing up. My six year old daughter loves this book. Every time we finish a story she wants to know more (we have already books on several of these amazing women). Every day she runs to get the book when she returns from school. It's a great resource for parents who would like to raise future empowered women. Through each story a mother can pass on to their daughters values of justice, equality, hard work, self trust, self worth and how capable we all are to follow our dreams and be unique. However there is one constructive criticism I would like to make regarding one of the stories. I was quite surprised to find Eva Perón as a role model and making it in a short list like this and frankly feel very uncomfortable with the way she is portraid in the book. I was born and raised in Venezuela and understand quite well Latin American politics. Eva Perón should not be in that book as her legacy of populism is one that has been repeated in other countries and that has had terrible consequences in Latin Amrica in the past decades. She was undoubtedly powerful but not necessarily good. Why not be safe and choose someone more influential and stronger in spirit and kindness like Mother Theresa? Finding Eva Perón or the choice of a couple of pirates instead of valuable women was disconcerting and made me doubt of the accuracy in the portrayal of some of the women listed. Also as mentioned in the another review the title could be re-thought as to make it easily accessible to boys as well. Closing in a positive note I was very pleased to see also many Italian women in the list having lived there for 5 years and coming from a half Italian family. I consider this a beautifully diverse list of inspiring women that lived before us or are still alive leading us through their courage in other parts of the world and helping us become better in what ever our field and life path is. I bought this book for my daughter so she can be inspired by amazing women and what they've accomplished. Hidden in this book, little did I know, is a page about a transgender child. No warning. This is a terrible way to sneak past parents and "educate" children about topics they are not ready for. I can no longer buy books for my children without reading EVERY single page. There needs to be a warning for parents, because not all children are ready or can understand these topics.Mamato4

Thank you for this effort and mission! I sincerely appreciate it. I am buying this for my daughter and son and giving it to several other families with boys and girls because it is important for all people to consider the power of motivation and these stories seem to be wonderful depictions of what motivation can help you accomplish. I want children to have books that have stories about all kinds of successful, adventurous, caring, loving people. HOWEVER, I think this title of this book is defeating the mission of it. To be a successful or extraordinary women should not be equated to being a rebel, although I understand the rationale for the use of the world rebel; Throughout history, it was considered rebellious behavior for women to do anything besides care for the home and people in it. But, using the term rebel continues to give weight to that old world view and perspective. let's change the rhetoric and stop equating the actions of strong smart women to being rebellious.Andrea

We found this book buried behind a bunch of other books so almost didn't see it. I'm glad we did, because it's one of our granddaughter's favorite books. The story is cute and lovable. The variety of textures for her to feel is great. Her favorites are the furry animals and the soft thick towel on the cover and first page. I highly recommend this book.Victoria

I was surprised my 10-year-old daughter asked for this for her birthday yesterday. I was expecting her to ask for a bike or unicorn pajamas. But no, she wanted this book. We gave her Volume 1 just 6 months ago. She obviously loves the stories, and the artwork is compelling. The pull-out map is very useful to locate the story on a map. She is constantly recounting the stories she reads over the dinner table. Our discussions lead to explorations into history and science and eventually we talk about what it would be like if she were to do something similar or if she lived in that part of the world.Angelo D.

I've read one story a day to my third grade class since I received my books. We talk about the struggle the person over came and how that's made a difference. Here is an essay one of my students wrote… In my opinion, I think I would rather meet Benjamin Franklin than George Washington . One reason I think that is because, I could invent stuff with him. For example, we could invent awesome things like the Franklin stove, bifocals,swim fins and the lightning rod. Also, I could’ve helped write the Declaration of Independence because someday I would like to become a rebel and change the world. Another reason is because, without Benjamin Franklin there would not be a country called the United States of America. So it would be awesome to meet someone who changed the world because he asked the French king to help fight the Revolutionary war and he agreed. I don’t think he would agree if someone else asked him. Lastly, I can make more newspapers with him, because I would love to write something that everyone can see. For these reasons, that is why I think I would rather meet Benjamin Franklin.Ellie C.

Fabulous book. I bought one for my two nieces, then loved it so much I bought a copy for my 2-year old daughter to have as she grows up. The stories are cute and inspiring, and the art really shines. My daughter loves flipping through the book to look at the pictures. She loves it, I love reading it to her, it's a win/win. Too much text and complex pictures for a small board book for bub. Wish I had bought the large paper book or a larger board book option if available. Bub (8 months)may prefer story more when older. Otherwise good story and images. Recommend bigger version for this particular story.Nic

My twin grandsons fell in love with the Christmas version so I just had to go on the hunt for some more stories about these guys!! Their favorite is excavator (he was on both Christmas wishlists) but they're learning so much about other construction vehicles-it's a win win!! My four-year-old and I love this book. The story is great and the illustrations are charming. Many of the pictures of the cartoon digger and his or her child digger have an old fashioned, americana feel that is as rewarding to the parent as much as a child. highly recommend! :)Spiffy4JC
