20 Best Blue Water Boats (2023 Update)

We bought 2 of these boats for my kids. They work great, are fast on the pond, and they battery life is decent (lasts about 20min full throttle). After my boys returned from the pond, I went to recharge the battery's and started to smell a burnt smell coming from inside one of the boats where the batter/motor sits. I thought it was the battery, but recharged the battery and used it to power the 2nd boat and it ran the 2nd boat as expected (about 20min). I suspected the motor burned up and email customer service for help getting a replacement motor. Customer service was excellent and instead of shipping a new motor, they sent me a whole new boat within a couple days. We are back up an running without any issues. Bought two – one blue, one green. Sadly blue controller started glitching during first use. Now it wont turn on.Update: after writing this review, seller sent two brand new replacement boats. Working perfectly so far. The original set we were running over a sandy bottom so I wonder if maybe this was responsible for the malfunction. Controller could be sealed a little better to to prevent water from getting into the board. Otherwise fun boats!Chua

This little boat is really fast! Like *much* faster than I had expected! My son loved it and zipped it around the pool for days. We did have a slight electrical issue, which may have been caused after so much use and water getting into the boat area. Customer support for this little boat is like no other. Email responses were super quick, they even responded with videos showing me exactly how to remove/replace the component, along with other things to check. They sent out a replacement part, and I was back on my way. For a simple RC toy, this worked really well and is actually made for you to work on and keep working for many hours of use. well the price is good , i had the boat sins a year know. lets see , i will say the good thing first then the things i think need improve . well first of all this boat got some space , woow i love the space it have i can now fit a cooler in the back ouh i can fit all my gear at the back no problems, cooler fishing lures and fishing gear + a small continuer with some things in it like light ad list goos on an on , then the factory fishing rood holder one of the best things about it , the handle is helpful. the siting positions is not that bad but you need something to set on it if you stay a long time in the boat. good thing that it coms with to motor mount , the material got some advantage and dis advancing .. it's though but it's hard to stick something on it or to modify . NOW LITS SEE BAD THINGS , no drain plugs so if you ben to some high waters you will have some hard time , the boat is not stabile as i wanted but some foam in the sides fixed it 50% , the sets had no back support 🙁 . i would love to have 3 person in it ,, come on it's a 12 foot , but the thing is when the 3 person set the boat be come front heavy so waves gets in . so i would love to see this thing fixed , amm the max lode you can have in is 190 kg , i had a 8 foot and it got the same max lode !! last ting this thing is heavy so don't think that you can lode it on a car by your self.. do i recommend it? well yes i do but if you only can live with the dis advantage by the way this boat is a good boat to modify be your own , EXTRA INFO. i use this boat with a 2.5 mercury and the fastest i got with 2 person on board is 6 or 7 KM/H lights are addable if thy work by batteries ( using bicycles lights green and red) floor is not confortabil to set on so get something to bot behind your back and under you , this way you will stay longer in the sea , good way to add to the confortabil level is to install cop holder. Bought these approximately one month ago. They came delivered with no issues and were in good shape after an all around inspection. I was home on the day of delivery and even helped with taking them off the truck to ensure to give them some TLC. Today, 02/07/21, my son and I took them on their maiden voyage. My goal was to get acclimated to everything as I consider us beginners. I also took a fishing pole with me to see what it was like to cast. I took these on Castaic Lake Lagoon here in California. We decided for the most part to hug the shoreline in case we flipped and had any issues getting back on, keeping the shallow shoreline close. The lagoon has about 3 miles of shoreline and we had no problem covering that in our day trip (4 hours). The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is the seat. It does get a bit uncomfortable after 2-3 hours. Most people upgrade this seat and I'm looking to do the same. The kayaks seem durable and we plan to have many more trips as the weather is beginning to warm up. I will also be purchasing anchors soon as the kayaks drift very easily especially on this windy lake. I'll take it slow for any other modifications I've seen on the internet. Overall this was a great purchase for my family as it will be a form of rest and relaxation we'll be doing often.Basswood67

Just received via shipping. Can't wait to try it out. I have owned several kayaks so I was looking for one with specifics I wanted and this one had most. First is sit on top… sit in boats are hard to get out of gracefully, especially for an old big guy! But I've watched young and fit adults struggle as well. Lol The multi foot rest positions are another personal preference. I have owned kayaks with adjustable foot rest.. they are not easy to adjust from a seated position and you tend to adjust your feet often on a decent trip. I really wanted the side mounted adjustable rod holder also and this is the only boat I found designed this way. If you like slow trolling fishing then a center mount rod holder makes it difficult to do. Plus you usually have to lean forward a bit to reach the rod with a center mount. The side mount is an easy reach for a quick set. I'll be pushing the weight limit at 275 but sit on tops won't swamp or sink. The width of the hull looks much wider than any of my previous boats so that will only improve stability quite a bit! Eager to dirty it up with some fish scales and slime!Big Papa

Honestly, I gambled. Like most things, this is engineered with a fudge-factor involved as some 275lb guy will think "hey, I'm 275lb" and then doesn't think as he loads 30lbs of gear on as well. Well, this is rated at 275lbs, will float 330 very easily. About 1/2 inch of water comes through the scupper holes though… you can get scupper stoppers if that bothers you. Personally, it doesn't bother me one bit as I may be sweet but I'm not made of sugar so I won't melt in a little water. 🙂 Just purchased, had it on the water twice first weekend (wife bought a Tioga model). Tracks well on the water. Oars need drip blockers to keep the water from rolling down your onto you, but that's literally my only complaint. Very satisfied. Would highly recommend.PNWMike

After review of multiple tandem kayak rankings, the Malibu Two showed up multiple time so. I bought it and used it for the first time this weekend. I have a cockpit kayak and don't like the enclosed feeling. Tis is a great kayak. I much prefer the sit-on-top design. The seats offer very comfortable back support. The ability to paddle solo is a great feature.hemonc

I have two of these pontoon boats. They are now four years old and show no wear and tear. I do properly store them in the winter. My first year I did not like the non adjustable seat or the trolling mount. I did some research and found a lot of others had the same issues. Searching on youtube I found a way to front-mount my trolling motor. I also put on a swivel seat for comfort. By putting the trolling motor up front it also balanced my boat better. This also kept the front more stable. I also like by doing this you are trolling out the front and going backwards. Very easy to control speed and direction without the awkwardness of trying to constantly twist around.
As far as quality, I found both of these boats to be high quality and easy to assemble. When I had a problem I called the manufacturer and they walked me through all issues. For people that rate this low, you did not buy a yacht, you bought a one person pontoon boat that if you maintain it properly you should get years of enjoyment out of it. Check out youtube. The Colorado XT is a well built boat that can accommodate a broad range of needs. I greatly enjoy taking it out and exploring the lakes and rivers near my home. There's ample storage for my tackle, rods and personal things. All day fishing trip are easy to pack away in it's pockets. I frequently spend 5 to 8 hours out on the water. It's small size, rugged build and shallow depth allows it to get into some great remote and shallow areas. The portability of the boat, and use of it's wheel, makes it great to seek out new places to launch from. The wheel is so easy to install and remove that I do so on the boat in the water. I leave most of the boat together and it still packs effortlessly into the back of my sedan. Assembly, inflation and launching the boat takes me about fifteen minutes. Really can't say enough about how well built and versatile this boat is.andrew porter

I have used the XTS 3 times in the Lehigh River in Pennsylvania where I live. It is a delight and handles very well. Plenty of space for gear whether using spinning rods or fly rods. I have used both. Only small issue would be the design of the anchor system which at times depending on the current will be a bit troublesome to retrieve due to the anchor line not properly seating on the back pulley. I am going to make a modification to the pulley and that should solve any issue going forward. Fits in the back of my pickup truck and is easy to handle by yourself. I'm 61 and have no issues loading or unloading it myself. I would also say that a good pump such as a K-pump I bought a K-200 is worth every cent. It takes very little time or effort to inflate the bladders to the correct PSI.Tazzo

Totally love it. Set's up quick. Newer foot rests are a pain to put in but worth it. Pumped up feels like a hardshell. Don't drag the boat with the rear fin out. Dirt get's in the slot and makes it impossible to get the fin back in. Otherwise, fast boat, handles like a hard shellAnonymous

Tested out a "Sea Eagle Razorlite 473RL (2 paddler) inflatable kayak this afternoon. It arrived in the shipping box at my house at 2:30 pm and I was paddling it near by American Lake at 4:30. I'm really glad that I bought the electric pump. This way I spend my time paddling and not pumping. Had no problem paddling it like a canoe (with a canoe paddle not the kayak paddle). It's very good at holding a straight line when paddling on one side for 20 or more strokes yet is easy to maneuver. Easily got it up to 11:30 min/mile pace. Had a short sprint of 7:53 min/mile (probably wind aided). Tried to flip it when I finished paddling but it wouldn't go over. 38 pounds and folds up into a a very nice backpack for traveling. Plan on taking it to Australia for 2 weeks this May to keep in shape for long distance outrigger canoe racing in Hawaii this September and October. Rides well on J-racks on top of my small half ton Ranger pick-up truck.Lon K.

My first ever kayaks. Simon and Andy in Edmonton helped me gear up my Sportsman 132 and my wife's Sportsman 120. These are so stable, so easy to manage. Old Town makes an amazing PDL kayak. I think the best of any out there. I was lucky to research them and found these. AQOutdoors is the only place to buy a kayak. They helped me set up my kayaks for fishing with Yackatack and Wilderness rigging. 2nd trip out, my wife is fishing because she feels so stable in her kayak. Awesome. Why did I wait so long to do this? It is such fun. Every person we pedal (not paddle) by they say I want one like that. AQOutdoors…well how did I find them. Luckily I Googled pedal kayaks and their site came up. They are the pro's when it comes to kayaks. Even the white water crazy stuff the young paddlers go for. Smooth order and delivery process – right at about 2 weeks but I did pick up at shipping terminal. the kayak is my first pedal kayak and my 3rd overall. I used an Ocean Kayak Big Game II and a Native Slayer 14.5 before this one. The pedal drive on this boat is amazing. The first time I took it out I did about 6 miles on the Ohio River. I was worried about how I would take to the pedaling recumbent motion. I will admit that I wasn't in the best shape and I did have to stop and take my legs of the pedals every so often, made several seat adjustments – which are super easy on this boat by the way. By about halfway through my trip, I was feeling more comfortable and leisurely pace was no problem and it was even feeling comfortable resting feet on the pedals – which is a good sign I had reached a good seat adjustment. The seat is higher than any other boats I've used and I think it helps make the pedaling more comfortable in terms of motion range. Other things – the seat is very comfortable, rudder works well, boat can move quickly if you pedal it with a good pace. Very happy with it so farKevin

I was in the market for an Old Town BigWater 132 pdl. Most of the sellers online were stating that it would possibly be the end of March for availability. I talked to a customer service representative at Eco Fishing Shop and he told me that hopefully they would have some by late January or February. I ordered mine on the 4th of January, It shipped on the 22nd of January. I received it yesterday on the 16th of February. An amazing job was done wrapping it and preparing it for shipping. The company that delivered it was called FragilPak and they were also top notch. The gentleman who delivered it helped me carry it inside the garage and he let me look it over to inspect for damage. The kayak is in perfect condition. I highly recommend Eco Fishing. The new kayak is awesome and I can't wait to try it out. Love this kayak! It's high pressure dropped stich floor with smaller tubes and fine tapered shape handles more like a sports car than some of the larger tubed kayaks with low pressure floors. I fitted it with an inflatable foot rest and thigh straps and am happy with all. The fabrics appear very durable and it's light weight make it easy to load up by myself. The only complaint (hence the 4 star ratting) is that you are always sitting in a puddle of water on the drop stich floor unlike the low pressure domed floors on some other good quality IK's.Guy

This kayak is top notch, the price tag is high ($995) but you do get what you pay for. Our previous Wilderness Systems kayaks have been in service for about 18 years and still look new. One of the design improvements is the integrated and recessed kayak handles that replace the previous handles that were made of fabric and needed to be replaced annually. They have also included a dry box and improved the foot pedal adjustment system to move more freely. There is also a dry box and cargo lids that are hinged so they stay attached to the boat. The 120 size is definitely the way to go!Nick A.

I bought my first one 22 years ago at that it was advertised as the toughest duck boat on the market, i chose it over a fiberglass pirouge due to its durabilty and features, for the next 22 years, i put it to the test duck hunting and fishing. Its been dragged behind a atv, thrown in the truck , loaded down with 2 grown hunters and all the gear, made hundreds of trips hunting and bass fishing and maintaining duck blinds hauling brush, you name it and it did it . I was most impressed one freezing north Louisiana morning when i hit a log in the dark and went overboard, after i was able to climb back in over the side of the boat and it did not turn over , I'm 230 lbs and had water logged clothing and this boat is extremely stable. But after 22 years it developed a small crack in the bottom, nothing major , i still use but i liked it so much i just bought a new one, plus i paid $100.00 less for this one than i did for the first one, i bought the add on motor mount , its ok for a very small trolling motor but the weight of the motor eventually cracked the side of the boat where it attaches, i then built a bracket and have the motor on the rear handle, its a bit of reach to steer it but its much more durable. Once you have one of these boats you just cant do without it . A bargain at $599.00Duckdawg

I just received it this morning. It is what I expected it to be except the the scrapes, scratches n gouge. Contact customer support and all was taken care of. I got the kayak because i wanted a 3 person kayak the was also portable. Just FYI it does not come with pump or paddles. The kayak is built well. It inflated to a semi ridged. I paddles very well, is very stable. The seats were not to my liking but that is personal you may be ok with them. Now the huge flaw for me is that the tubes are covered in a cloth material. when it gets wet it does add more wieght to kayak so picing it up is harder, also the biggset issue is there is no way to dry the tubes unless you leave it out in sun blown up for how ever long it takes. but if you roll it up before it drys you may have a mold issue. I ended up returning it and buying the sea eagle 370. the sea eagle is a fantastic boat.MrSway

Photos make it look bigger, it's only about a foot long but is tall with sails and keel about 2 feet.. But this little boat can hold it's own.. Sailed it in the central park model boat pond and although not as fast as the much larger pro sail boats, did fine.. The instructions on connecting the sail trim Strings was lacking or missing. But not a big deal.. For the price it's a no brainer, got for 3.5 yo.. Loves it and seeing it sail.. Too young to really operate….christopher

Only 12 inches long. The colors on the sails are dull and anemic looking. Battery compartment is difficult to open. Fragile sail lines snap off easily and are hard to reattach.Andy

This inflatable kayak is really a lot of fun and a great design – except for the oar/paddle that is included. The oar comes in several pieces and screws together. While I was paddling, one side of the oar separated and fell in the water – twice (YIKES!)! Luckily, I wasn't alone because it would have been difficult to get it and twist it back together. I bought another brand, similar price and the paddle SNAPS together – and I had no problem with that paddle. I love the kayak, but it lost a star due to the paddle design.rmbl

It was the most uncomfortable experience ever. It felt like I was sitting on a tube. My whole body was way too low, making it reallt hard to use the paddles. It felt like I was in a submarine trying to paddle over the surface.Josh

I can’t decide if I inflated incorrectly or if this is poorly designed. My entire body is in the kayak so I have to hold my arms up to paddle. It’s not comfortable. But, the kayak is very portable and it worked, so I just say it’s average. I’m going to give it another try soon, but I did not like sitting as low as I did. I almost just got on my knees because that would be easier.Emma

This is an awesome kayak and is so much more stable than a regular kayak. With all of the open room it easily allows you to layout very nicely when needed for concealment or shooting and then sit more upright for paddling or setting up decoys. The multiple foot rest stops keeps you at just the right angle for any position desired. I was able to step into the kayak when launching and it didn't want to tip over like some many others because of the catamaran style bottom, plus it didn't want to tip sideways when you lean way over one side to retrieve items. The rear hatch is quite large and allows for storing extra gear without getting it wet, but it is a bit hard to access from inside the kayak and the hatch does not have a hinge of any kind so you have to be careful lifting it off to access items. Although I did not purchase this for it's intended use of a waterfowling / hunting kayak like it's intended I can tell that as a past avid Duck hunter this would have been great to use. I actually bought it to gain access to the underside of my boathouse and dock so I can easily do repairs to the beams, electrical, water pipes, etc. when needed. I have tried several different small boats from Flat Bottom Jon Boats to kayaks to pelican boats, all 10' and under to get around with and none of them have given me the stability, room, and narrowness that this offers. Now I can easily paddle around, lay back and glide under the dock to gain access and then be able to sit upright and do my repairs with my tools and not be worrying about it tipping over when stretching out one side. So far this is the perfect Kayak for multiple tasking as I require and I can sill use it to Duck hunting anytime.Dutchtexan

I hunt a large lake where the water level fluctuates making it difficult to use permanent ground blinds. This kayak is perfect because it’s low profile, easily concealable, lightweight and incredibly stable. My layout blind fits perfectly inside. Ducks won’t know you’re there until it’s way too late!Duckwhacker

The Phantom Duck Boat is a must have for real duck hunters who like to get in tight, low profile, and where the ducks want to be. I have over 20 of them and won't hunt without using them. They hold everything; dog, decoys, fast grass, gun, kit, and you son or daughter. And I've never been able to sink one, even with heavy loads and taking on water. When I have opened the box , charged batteries as indicated, the boat didn't give any sign of life. I tried anything but the boat never worked for even a second. So far so good, unfortunately it was a family Christmas gift so it has just been sitting since purchased. Got it all put together Christmas eve and never seen my son so excited when he saw the paddles sitting by the tree Christmas morning. We are excited to get it out on the water!! Only concern is that one of the cubby hole areas latch may be a little striped. I have not reached out yet to see if there may be an easy fix. I do have one question, if someone could contact me, There were some loose screws included that I cant seem to find where they may go. Thinking they may have just been extras. Maybe they will help with the latch that isnt as tight as the others?George M

We purchased the BKC TK122 Angler 12-foot, 8 inch Tandem 2 or 3 Person Sit On Top Fishing Kayak w/ Upright Aluminum Frame Seats. One of the reasons that we selected this kayak is for the carrying weight (up to 750lbs). We wanted to be able to pack it up and camp overnight on fishing trips. The kayak has been great with sufficient areas for camping gear, water and food. It paddles well and is easy to control. Usually, my boy was fly fishing in the front seat and I was able to direct the kayak well so that he could hit holes with his casting. The upright seats are comfy also, with good leg room. We floated sections of the Big Hole River in Montana, and a section of the Upper Missouri, in Montana. One caveat: this kayak is not for white water. It is for slow rivers and lakes. We hit one white water section and had to bail out water in the middle before finishing the section of river. The sides are low. But for a slow water fishing/camping kayak, it is great. We will get a lot of use out of it.Steve M

An absolute workhorse. I purchased this boat for two reasons. First to be able to bring my 75lbs dog out on the water with me. My dog, Lou, goes everywhere with me, but my other kayak didn’t work for us. Second, I kayak camp and have cot tents (35lbs each), so I needed a boat that can handle some gear. This boat is great for both those reasons. Lou rides comfortably up front while I easily paddle from the rear. First kayak camp was on the Missouri River. I carried about 200lbs of gear. Water was low, so lots of obstacles to navigate and I was able to maneuver this boat with no problem. Day two got hairy with 20-25mph head winds that caused white caps coming at us. This boat was amazing. It handled everything the river threw at us. It performed better than I could have imagined. The padded seats are awful, but that was an easy fix. It was definitely worth the wait. I am pleased with my purchase.Tim P

And I know the that almost everything Minn Kota is on back order but MyGreenOutdoors came in clutch! I’m in the process of redoing a 1989 Starcraft for striper fishing on L Cumberland. Im 70 myself and I wanted a self deploying and retracting trolling motor. I decided on my choice but couldn’t find the motor anywhere in my area in Kentucky or on the net. I tried tried My Green Outdoors for the first time and my original delivery date was about one month away. Two days after placing I get a email saying my trolling motor is shipped and will be delivered on Monday. Folks that was 5 days total getting what I wanted and having it here ready to mount. Worked on the process today and it’s going to be great. I know where to tell my friends if they need to update. Thanks for the great work in locating a hard find.Larry W.

I bought this model in October of 2017, with very limited use (4 trips) before it stopped deploying. MinnKota customer service was less than forthcoming concerning the models problems and issues. The unit auto deploy and trim module will not keep the water out which leads to failure. When I took this unit to the factory authorized repair center, I was given advice to sell it, after repairs were made. There were 6 identical motors at that shop for warranty service, all with the same issue. I love the idea of the auto deploy/trim but, in my opinion, this model should be taken off the market until the issues are resolved. The warranty expires after 2 years and in my case I am afraid I will be required to purchase another unit once it expires, as the cost to fix is very expensive and doesn't guarantee the product will be fixed for an extended period.reelsolitude

Our kids aren't really into RC vehicles. When I was a kid, I thought they were the coolest things. Sign of the times I guess. Plus, we have a swimming pool, so not much space in the backyard to play rc cars. So when I saw this boat, it was a must try! The packaging, the unknown brand, the Styrofoam, everything was nostalgic. Because it reminded me of those toys you would find at downtown swap-meets, or Chinatown. LOL! But I must say, it works very well. When I want it to turn, it turns, it is very accurate. I like making it go in circles. One last thing I'll mention, there is a clear plastic piece that seemed important because it was in its own little bag. The instructions didn't talk it and for the longest time, I didn't know what it was for. When I went to take pictures for this review, it became obvious… it's a stand for the boat. LOL! I was going to knock a star for pricing, but then I decided to do a little research first, and I realize these things aren't cheap. This is as low as it gets on Amazon for a decent size boat. So I give it 5 stars.Regarding accessing the battery…—————————————You might find that the seat cover is too difficult to remove. You'll have to yank it out the first time. This jet ski was able to drive downstream pretty well and was also able to drive upstream. This jet ski says it's suitable for children 14 years and older, but in reality, this toy would be suitable for much younger kids. We liked that the seat where the battery is located, sealed well and did not allow water to enter the compartment. The remote control is extremely simple to operate. It can stay connected to the boat for up to 164 feet, which ensures that you will always stay in control. The trigger operates forward and reverse, while the wheel operates the steering. This controls make it extremely simple for a young child to operate. The speed is pretty good for the price of the boat and it looks authentic. This we don't like is that the battery compartment, for as well as it is sealed, is difficult to open. It feels like you could break the seat any time. Breaking the seat in order to get to the battery is the only thing that really worries us. We hold our breath every time we need to open the compartment to charge the battery.Cory

Bought this little water boat for my three year old when we went up for a weekend at the Lake. He loved buzzing it around with his father. Even my 11 year old joined in on the fun! Only thing is the battery only lasts about 20 minutes and then you have to charge it again, but for 25 bucks it was worth it!Lindsay G. T.
