One of my favorite fishing spots has a ramp without dock so I have to pull my boat up on the ramp. Over time I've really abused the keel and had to fix it. I was leery of a keel guard. I was afraid messing up the install, and once its on, there is no moving it. I was also concerned about it staying on. Glad I was wrong on both accounts. If you follow the instructions / video just exactly as it says, it will work. I was surprised, it was really not a bad job. The best part is…it works. I've hit the ramp now several times and been in the water long enough to see that it's not coming off and that the ramp is not going to tear this thing up. If you have a favorite spot where you have to use the ramp…this is the answer.F.F.

Really great keelguard. Easy to install if you take time. Prep is key! I did it in about 2 hours not trying to hurry. That sucker is on there now! Must have for glass boats. If you're a do-it-yourself person this is an easy job. The hardest part is marking for sanding. I used duct tape to hold the keelguard in place then used a dry erase marker to mark the boat. I was all prepared to hate this upon first use. Then I watched some videos on how other people use this and other fairing compounds, most saliently Andy from Boatworks Today. Yeah, I was doing it all wrong. For starters, if you let this get cold, as often happens here in the Pacific Northwest, it's going to be an arm-buster to stir. So, I warm up my work area for a few hours before starting. Don't be like me and try to stir it in a cup. Use a board and a mud blade/spackle knife. Despite lots of surface prep and cleaning, this wouldn't adhere to the fiberglass in my bilge. At all. I couldn't get it to bond to anything. Which brings us to Tip #2: put down a super thin film of epoxy or penetrating epoxy before applying. Let that kick or set. Pow! Fairing compound comes off the spatula beautifully and sticks to your surface. Tip #3: wait about 40 minutes and do some more smoothing. This results in less need for sanding. Although sanding is pretty easy relative to silica-thickened epoxy. I haven't painted it yet, but the surface is super smooth and doesn't seem to have pinholes like I get with silica-thickened epoxy. The Westsail 32 has a class problem with a leaky hull deck joint. The leaks are so pervasive in these old boats that glassing the hull/deck joint is the only long term cure. Unfortunately, the fiberglass is the easy part. Fairing and painting the top off the bulwark, after the fiberglass is done, is the time consuming job. Total fair produces a surface with fewer pin holes than the West System 410; ready for primer and paint.John
Yellow and blue mixing to green takes out all the guesswork. I had a few blisters to repair on the last haul, so after a grind and clean I used this. It really grabs well, and sands easily. I also had some old filler that let go on the rudder, probably original to the 79 hull. After a lot of scraping and chipping, there was a large area that needed a thin coat of this to fair out smooth. Again, a quick roughing up with 60 grit, and this stuff stuck like glue. I had heavy tannin stains on my fiberglass deck boat that a high end pressure washer could not even make a difference on. Spent over a hour hand cleaning with a soft scrub type of product. Got about 85-90% of the stains off just 20% of the boat and thought that there had to be a better way. I was very skeptical when I read the product instructions. Spray on and rinse off after two minutes. I was prepared to be disappointed. Instead, I was truly stunned and amazed. Sprayed the product on a test area, then walked around the garage to get the hose. In that short of a time, the tannin stains had just 100% disappeared. I couldnt believe it. Tried another section and got the same amazing results. Finished the whole boat, including the hard to get to areas in less than 15 minutes and used only about a quart of product. I was giddy! I purchased this product to clean the hull of my boat and the engine. Unfortunately for me this product did not work at all. I applied the cleaner multiple times and it didn't remove the water spots. This product cost around $18. My wife purchased The Works toilet bowl cleaner for a little over $2 and it worked flawlessly. The Sportsman 106 has plenty of space and storage for what I want. The chair is comfortable but I still may considers adding risers. This is my first PDL system so still getting used to it vs paddle power. I do find the PDL easy to engage and use especially while fishing. Some kind of carrying cart is beneficial for loading and unloading. This kayak is extremely stable and easy to get in and out of. I own three other kayaks for different water experiences. I’m 70 yrs young and figure this 106 PDL will be my go to for the lake I live on. It provides good exercise and fishing capabilities. As an owner of a 2020 predator PDL, I was familiar with the PDL drive and loved the versatility of forward and reverse motion of the kayak. I wanted something smaller to just throw in the back of my pickup and go. The PDL 106 fit the bill for me perfectly. The shorter length coupled with the weight savings from the longer PDL make it much easier to load and unload. At 6’3” 250lbs I was worried that The 106 might take on a lot of water and considering they only include 2 scupper plugs I was a little worried. Installed the 7 ft on a 18 ft bass boat because I wanted it extended further towards the bow a few inches from the D-ring. I unboxed mine and it was a bit stiff but I went ahead and traced it out as YouTube installation videos show and then I set it in the sun to be more pliable while I prepped the hull…that was my only mistake because after becoming more pliable when I installed the guard it stretched more and was about an inch longer than what I had originally traced out an prepped. I would recommend setting it in the sun letting it get softer and then tracing it on the hull. Installation is much easier with two people. The primer towlet dries out fast so you have to be quick applying it. Get it right the fist time because the adhesive is super sticky. I put a bead of marine silicone on each end just to seal it off real good. So far the performance has been excellent. Ive beached the boat and it protects like it should. I wish I had purchased this long ago to protect my keel since it give me peace of mind.H.E.D.C.

I tried several cleaners but could not get the stains off my hull. I sprayed this on as directed, you can see the stains being removed as it drips off the boat. Hose it down and you are good. I did have to spray and scrub some of the more serious stains but they were removed as well. Wear rubber gloves and be aware of the fumes. Great product, it surprised me how well it worked.BHJP

Smooth order and delivery process – right at about 2 weeks but I did pick up at shipping terminal. the kayak is my first pedal kayak and my 3rd overall. I used an Ocean Kayak Big Game II and a Native Slayer 14.5 before this one. The pedal drive on this boat is amazing. The first time I took it out I did about 6 miles on the Ohio River. I was worried about how I would take to the pedaling recumbent motion. I will admit that I wasn't in the best shape and I did have to stop and take my legs of the pedals every so often, made several seat adjustments – which are super easy on this boat by the way. By about halfway through my trip, I was feeling more comfortable and leisurely pace was no problem and it was even feeling comfortable resting feet on the pedals – which is a good sign I had reached a good seat adjustment. The seat is higher than any other boats I've used and I think it helps make the pedaling more comfortable in terms of motion range. Other things – the seat is very comfortable, rudder works well, boat can move quickly if you pedal it with a good pace. Very happy with it so farKevin

Although not a marine project i had an undesirable project of replacing a window sill that had much dry rot in it. The git rot completely stabilized the damaged portion until it was harder than the original wood. I used another product to build up the area that were lost to dry rot and you now cannot tell there was ever any damage. This saved me much time and money from replacement of the entire sill. Great product and very easy to use with the measured mixing bottle that came with the kit.Douglas S.
I've used Git-Rot before, and it is a TREMENDOUS product. The directions say to drill 1/4 inch holes angled down and fill them with the mixed solution. You may have to "build" some sort of a "Dam" to keep the liquid from creeping out of where you want it. but you can clean up any spills if you follow the directions on the package. The solution is essentially a thinned-out epoxy resin that is absorbed into the wood, and makes the rotten wood into a type of fiberglass. This works quickly, and solves any outdoor or indoor rotten wood problems.ejwester
I had a soft spot in the floor of one of my RV storage compartments. I followed the directions and drilled shallow holes on a staggered basis, took my my time applying and let the epoxy cure. I personally put the keel shield on my 1986 Bass Tracker TF 1600 fiberglass bass boat. Following the directions was easy. Boat preparation was easy. Installation was easy. This product saved the bow of the bottom of my boat. In our area the boat docks are minimal and so beaching the boat on the rocky beach was norm. It has remained in tack and virtually prevented further damage to my boat. I use my boat year around. This product works just follow directions and you won't be disappointed.jmcalister

One of my favorite fishing spots has a ramp without dock so I have to pull my boat up on the ramp. Over time I've really abused the keel and had to fix it. I was leery of a keel guard. I was afraid messing up the install, and once its on, there is no moving it. I was also concerned about it staying on. Glad I was wrong on both accounts. If you follow the instructions / video just exactly as it says, it will work. I was surprised, it was really not a bad job. The best part is…it works. I've hit the ramp now several times and been in the water long enough to see that it's not coming off and that the ramp is not going to tear this thing up. If you have a favorite spot where you have to use the ramp…this is the answer.F.F.

This is an awesome kayak and is so much more stable than a regular kayak. With all of the open room it easily allows you to layout very nicely when needed for concealment or shooting and then sit more upright for paddling or setting up decoys. The multiple foot rest stops keeps you at just the right angle for any position desired. I was able to step into the kayak when launching and it didn't want to tip over like some many others because of the catamaran style bottom, plus it didn't want to tip sideways when you lean way over one side to retrieve items. The rear hatch is quite large and allows for storing extra gear without getting it wet, but it is a bit hard to access from inside the kayak and the hatch does not have a hinge of any kind so you have to be careful lifting it off to access items. Although I did not purchase this for it's intended use of a waterfowling / hunting kayak like it's intended I can tell that as a past avid Duck hunter this would have been great to use. I actually bought it to gain access to the underside of my boathouse and dock so I can easily do repairs to the beams, electrical, water pipes, etc. when needed. I have tried several different small boats from Flat Bottom Jon Boats to kayaks to pelican boats, all 10' and under to get around with and none of them have given me the stability, room, and narrowness that this offers. Now I can easily paddle around, lay back and glide under the dock to gain access and then be able to sit upright and do my repairs with my tools and not be worrying about it tipping over when stretching out one side. So far this is the perfect Kayak for multiple tasking as I require and I can sill use it to Duck hunting anytime.Dutchtexan

The Phantom Duck Boat is a must have for real duck hunters who like to get in tight, low profile, and where the ducks want to be. I have over 20 of them and won't hunt without using them. I was already breaking the bank on my system so I opted for the inexpensive vent/drain thru hulls. Quality is decent and blends in nicely especially on a black boat. There was a bit of a "burr" from the molding process on the barbed ends of all of these that restricted the internal diameter noticeably. Not sure what kind of affect that would have on the flow but I opted to ream it off. A step drill bit turned by hand took care of it pretty easily.Jeff
