2. The Saga Of Hugh Glass: Pirate, Pawnee, And Mountain Man [Book]

Product Details:
Before his most fabulous adventure (celebrated by john g. neihardt in the song of hugh glass and by frederick manfred in lord grizzly), hugh glass was captured by the buccaneer jean lafitte and turned pirate himself until his first chance to escape. soon he fell prisoner to the pawnees and lived for four years as one of them before he managed to make his way to st. louis. next he joined a group of trappers to open up the fur-rich, indian-held territory of the upper missouri river. then unfolds the legend of a man who survived under impossible conditions: robbed and left to die by his comrades, he struggled alone, unarmed, and almost mortally wounded through two thousand miles of wilderness.

Reviews:
The survival story of Hugh Glass is one step away from being mythic. Thankfully, Myers avoids the poetic and the mythic in retelling Glass's life-story (he leaves that duty to other fine writers of fiction & poetry). However, Myers will sometimes insert non-quotation colloquial-sounding sentences within otherwise scholarly passages that disjointed this reader. On the whole, though, I found the book to be engaging, informative and the fullest of portraits of Hugh Glass. A fine companion to the fictional 'Lord Grizzly' by Manfred.theartangels
I found the writing style tedious but still a fine read.jimg7188

If you've read the last one, this one will open your eyes to many new things. There is much more about digital audio in this book, where the last one had very little about digital audio. You can tell that Howard Massey has developed his style and ability in interviewing. He knows just the questions to ask. Great volume.stonebridgemastering

Reviews:
I was so, SO excited for the newest edition in the Throne of Glass series! It was the first book that I ever pre-ordered and as a School Librarian I've reccomended the series to literally dozens of people. That was until the vivid, pleantiful sex scenes in this latest edition that would make 50 Shades of Grey fans blush. Now, I know that sex is nothing new to this series, and YA books explore these topics rather often but the "hot" scene on the beach and the borderline-bondage was a bit much. Honestly, it felt unnessasary and REALLY made me wish that I hadn't reccomended this series to YOUNG STUDENTS. I mean, they weren't badly written, but the plot would have progressed all the same had the pages and pages of them been replaced with the phrase "AND THEN THEY BONED". Other complaints include the Mannon twist – SPOILERS – I loved the whole half-and-half thing but I didn't really like the "royal" thing. It's kinda like Oprah on a couch screaming "a kingdom for you, a kingdom for you, a kingdom for everyone!" But asides those two minor complaints, the overall plot was SUPERBLY written and I will still be pre-ordering the next one.SuperKamiGreta
I love the Throne of Glass series so much. The last book Queen of Shadows was my absolute favorite. I thought in my opinion there was no need for another book and that was my greatest mistake in this series. There will be 6 books in the series and Empire of Storm is book 5. After I finished the 4 book(Queen of Shadows)I wasn't prepared for this book. It was like love, " Dying a little everyday" quoted from queen of shadows. This book took my breath away, it is by far the best written but I hate what happens in it so much. When/If you decide to read this book I hope you will enjoy/despise the adventure as much as I did.One Avid reader

A great deal of information, well laid out and very useful to the keen collector.chrisdoug36
Marked as good, vs excellant, due to some significant types of collectable glass & makers left out. For a book of its size it is pretty comprehensive though. It is well organized & lots of nice pictures (small-medium size photos, doesnt waste excessive space with full pagers). It is an ideal book for a beginning glass collector, and may give some new directions to exhisting collectors. Glad I bought it.slin9851

12. A History Of The World In 6 Glasses [Book]

Product Details:
New york times bestsellerfrom beer to coca-cola, the six drinks that have helped shape human history. throughout human history, certain drinks have done much more than just quench thirst. as tom standage relates with authority and charm, six of them have had a surprisingly pervasive influence on the course of history, becoming the defining drink during a pivotal historical period. a history of the world in 6 glasses tells the story of humanity from the stone age to the 21st century through the lens of beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea, and cola. beer was first made in the fertile crescent and by 3000 b.c.e. was so important to mesopotamia and egypt that it was used to pay wages. in ancient greece wine became the main export of her vast seaborne trade, helping spread greek culture abroad. spirits such as brandy and rum fueled the age of exploration, fortifying seamen on long voyages and oiling the pernicious slave trade. although coffee originated in the arab world, it stoked revolutionary thought in europe during the age of reason, when coffeehouses became centers of intellectual exchange. and hundreds of years after the chinese began drinking tea, it became especially popular in britain, with far-reaching effects on british foreign policy. finally, though carbonated drinks were invented in 18th-century europe they became a 20th-century phenomenon, and coca-cola in particular is the leading symbol of globalization.for tom standage, each drink is a kind of technology, a catalyst for advancing culture by which he demonstrates the intricate interplay of different civilizations. you may never look at your favorite drink the same way again.
Reviews:
With so many books to buy for school, this one saved us $21.00 vs what it cost at the bookstore! Many thanks!!!cheerdiva
One will never think of most "drinks" in the same way after reading Standage's excellent book. His chronicle of the world's favorite libations is historical and very in depth — revealing much of the social and political forces that influenced just what the average "joe or jane" was reaching for on a daily basis (throughout the eons) to quench his thirst or to help get her through their day. This is fun, lighter reading for any lover of historical or social books — I liked it and also learned a lot from it…though I did find myself craving a good drink more than once while I was reading it! I first read Karen White's book, "A Long Time Gone" and loved it. It gave a preview of this book, so I bought it. It's an easy read, suspenseful enough that you want to get back to it. I enjoyed the previous a bit more, maybe because it was longer, but I would recommend both and am looking forward to reading another novel by Karen White. And this being said from someone who has barely read a book in many many years!annandandy1971
