Great walk through for gardeners who need a little help planning and organizing to reap the most from their garden.MELISSA
Authors claim this book works for any gardening zone and while this is correct, it takes a few moments to date your pages. Once this is done, book is ready to go! I love the gardening tips. I am a medium experienced gardener and I learned a few things right off the bat! I love the journal pages. They are divided by years so you can easily see what worked well (or not so well) the year before and plan accordingly. Journal pages are located within each week, which makes it very easy to see while you are IN the week. Pages can be wiped off, which is a great help when you have the book at the garden while working. One very small complaint. Print is dark gray, which is a little difficult for me to read without my glasses but again, a very small complaint. Also fun are the "She says / He says" tips. Father and Daughter sometimes agree and sometimes don't! You decide!lb_homesales

This is the absolute best gardening book that I have come across yet. The gardening advice is clearly written and supported by useful diagrams, pictures, and charts where needed. The information is well organized, making it easy to find specific information when wanting to refer to it again. Most important of all, the guidance is practical for the backyard gardener. There is a lot to take in though, so depending on the reader's gardening skills and knowledge, it may be best to apply a little at a time versus becoming overwhelmed and giving up. I am sure that I will be learning something new from this book each year. I am excited to start planning and am really looking forward to the upcoming growing season with this book at my fingertips. All new Square Foot Gardening Book is fantastic. I love all the jam packed info in it and especially like the pieces that the author puts in and it all makes the book brilliant. Really good for beginner gardeners but also for any gardener as well. I found the book easy to read and follow. Excellent book for a gift. The only thing that I think would add up price wise is the mix for the raised beds. I used really good soil we already had and is working really well. It is a very enjoyable book with good teaching how to do it anyone can learn to do. Thanks to Booktopia ordering it back in was able to get it. It is worth the wait when ordering for the quality of the book. Happy Gardening.Rosiemae
The book has enabled me to logically plan a vegetable garden in my "postage stamp" sized backyard.Mel's Mix, though expensive, seems to be already encouraging seedlings to reach for the sky. After many failed attempts using other techniques in this small area that has rubbish soil;I'm left with high hopes that I will finally start to get good yields of crops that I enjoy eating.Chucky Boy

16. Will Bonsall's Essential Guide To Radical, Self-Reliant Gardening: Innovative Techniques For Growing Vegetables, Grains, And Perennial Food Crops With Minimal Fossil Fuel And Animal Inputs [Book]

Product Details:
"if you wish to live well and eat well no matter what is going on in the rest of the world, this book is for you. . . . will bonsall will help you enjoy the good life under any and all conditions."–eliot coleman, author of the new organic grower "society does not generally expect its farmers to be visionaries." the marketplace distorts our values, and our modern dependence on petroleum in particular presents a serious barrier to creating a truly sustainable agriculture. for him the solution is, first and foremost, greater self-reliance, especially in the areas of food and energy. by avoiding any off-farm inputs (fertilizers, minerals, and animal manures), bonsall has learned how to practice a purely veganic, or plant-based, agriculture–not from a strictly moralistic or philosophical perspective, but because it makes good business sense: spend less instead of making more. what this means in practical terms is that bonsall draws upon the fertility of on-farm plant materials: compost, green manures, perennial grasses, and forest products like leaves and ramial wood chips. and he grows and harvests a diversity of crops from both cultivated and perennial plants: vegetables, grains, pulses, oilseeds, fruits and nuts–even uncommon but useful permaculture plants like groundnut (apios). inside will bonsall's essential guide to radical, self-reliant gardening you'll also find: milling, baking and sprouting freezing and vermentation best practices to handle plant disease and animal pests collecting and storing seeds and so much more! in a friendly, almost conversational way, bonsall imparts a wealth of knowledge drawn from his more than forty years of farming experience. "my goal," he writes, "is not to feed the world, but to feed myself and let others feed themselves.
