Reviews:
I read this via my public library. I liked it so much , I purchased it for my book shelf. We as a species are on autopilot and this book explains why. Humans understand most body systems and their operations. Very little is known of our minds and the difference between it and our brains. After reading this book, your daily thoughts and desires will take on a whole new outlook.2knives1*
Psychology book in which common sense is presented as psychobabble and jargon then dispensed as science and new discoveries or "insights" into the way people think. For example the presentation of "prospect theory", in which someone's decision making process between two variables is found to be a function of what they are comparing. Such as the choice between getting a million dollars for sure or a 25% chance of getting four million, is found to be different for someone who already has ten million, compared to someone who has nothing. This can be summed up in the simple common sense phrase "It's all relative", with no need to research or explain or needlessly develop "new" behavioural theories. Then the equally absurd "theory induced blindness" in which a researcher develops a theory and can't see things any other way. A classic case of someone not being able to see the wood for the trees. Even the main premise of the book as referred to in it's title is simply about instinctive (fast) and considered (slow) thinking. It goes on and on in the same vain for over four hundred pages without offering a single new insight which could not be encapsulated by a simple common sense couplet or well known idiom or proverb. This cannot be disguised by the author's chatty and self-effacing writing style in which his familiarity with us and occasional pretension of doubt of his own theories is another manipulative tool used so we can forgive our "friend" for his true but rehashed drivel and jargonisation. Not only that, but such insights, rather than being of use to humanity, or adding to the sum of human knowledge, are useful only to the worst and most cynical and untrustworthy type of manipulative psychologists; the marketeers, advertisers and salesmen.cgodbol
This book is often quoted and rightly so. It's a great insight into how we think and how we draw conclusions. Don't think of it as a text book; it's been slightly dumbed down to make it very readable.Pietro

Reviews:
The concepts explained in this book are so relevant and logical. It is such a challenge to get out of the 'shallow work' we are faced with throughout our days and into the 'deep' but this book spells out how and shows you the benefits that will flow. I read this book in record time and started implementing the concepts immediately.Darren in the Deep
Life changing !!! I'm off social media, retraining my brain to concentrate, workplace productivity has gone through the roof and i am enjoying my work a whole lot more. I gave a copy to my boss hoping she'll encourage deep work practices in our team.bonsaimatt42
Another book recommended to me by a friend. Being a researcher by trade, Deep Work reminds me of the importance of my role – the ability o do sustained and concentrative work. This book goes through the reasons why most of us are transforming our work lives from deep to shallow work. As Cal Newport states – Shallow Work stops us from getting fired; Deep Work gets us promoted. A great book for anyone wondering why they aren't achieving their desired outputs and how to find more value to get to the next desired levelAngela
