Reviews:
This book is a powerful resource for those suffering the "fall-out" of infidelity. The author gives a courageous account of her family's struggle to heal/survive as well as her personal battle dealing with her husband's affair. Anne Bercht, as well as her husband and daughter, share their pain and experience to provide a life line to those who feel like there is no hope or future after the "adultery bomb" explodes. Don't let the title of the book fool you…Anne takes her reader through her painful and messy journey to reach the revelation of how to have a better marriage after the affair (the affair did not make it better but the lesson learned from it did). This text is not for the faint hearted and although written from a Christian perspective, it is not sugar-coated. This book is a must have for those suffering from the pain of betrayal- only those who have shared the same can truly understand.ladysmantle
This book and a Bible should be mandated to be given to all couples on their wedding day. In total sadness, I report a real life story that would not have happened had both of us read this book after the affair and before the divorce. Yes, he had an affair, or affairs, both physically and emotionally, no matter what he says. Now you have a choice that has to be made. You can see the affair as a red flag that says that something is wrong in the marriage and some serious work needs to be done by both spouses, or, choose the total destruction of many relationships that are outside the marriage much like a tsunami causes total destruction thousands of miles from the initial event. Yes, it is very possible that a divorce will happen after months or years of crying, counseling and pain but equally possible (with studies and documentation published) is the possibility that the marriage will be recreated that is stronger, more committed and more nourishing than it was before the affair. If a woman seeks advice from her friends especially those friends in the feminist fringe, they will say that the husband needs to be punished at any and all costs and this advise will usually cause more pain and destruction for the wife than the affair ever did. When he suffers, so will she, as they are too intertwined from the 20, 30 or more years together. So what losses will happen that the lawyers and angry single women will not tell you about? All retirement funds and plans are lost forever as well as a comfortable home, good friends, respect of the kids for both their parents, enriching events like weddings, births, reunions, holidays, health insurance, life and dental insurance, your mental and physical health and finally, the loss of someone to grow old with. So what is the upside to a scorched earth and punishing divorce? The divorce and then the bankruptcy lawyers get more ill-gotten money in their pockets that was honestly earned by the combatants that they represent and then counsel to keep their rages and anger high. In fact, a good divorce lawyer will force the wife to get a temporary restraining order that prevents the combatants from talking, emailing or being civil, which, by the way, prevents a remorseful husband from attempting to make amends for his indefensible behaviors. Lawyers, like Satan, hate happy marriages and fixable marriages. The divorce industry is the most evil, self-serving cancer that man ever made. Satan must be pleased with this heartless group. If you think different, ask any divorce lawyer for proof that they counseled even one client, in writing, to get help for their marriage rather than a divorce. So, the choice is clear to see the affair(s) as a sickness of the marriage or enter the tunnel of no return that creates nothing positive and is populated with organisms who feed off the misery of a marriage that needs help, not destruction, unless there is violence, which is, perhaps, the only reason for a divorce if there are no children under 18.gates2828

Reviews:
Lee Child's Jack Reacher series are destined to be classics of the genre. Too good to put down once you start. Just the right length, yet finished too quickly. These books always leave me hungry for the next story. The Affair was particularly clever: a ripping yarn. Although told from today's perspective, it is sort of a prequel in that it dealt with unanswered questions about Jack Reacher's past. Loved it!Kat
March 1997. A woman has her throat cut behind a bar in Carter Crossing, Mississippi. Just down the road is a big army base. Is the murderer a local guy – or is he a soldier? Jack Reacher, still a major in the military police, is sent in undercover. The county sheriff is a former U.S. Marine – and a stunningly beautiful woman. Her investigation is going nowhere. Is the Pentagon stonewalling her? Or doesn't she really want to find the killer? The adrenaline-pumping, high-voltage action in "The Affair" is set just six months before the opening of "Killing Floor", and it marks a turning point in Reacher's career. If he does what the army wants, will he be able to live with himself? And if he doesn't, will the army be able to live with him? And is this his last case in uniform?

7. I'm Glad My Mom Died (Hardcover) Simon & Schuster

Product Details:
Jennette mccurdy details how she overcame harrowing struggles as a child tv star—including anorexia and bulimia, addiction, severe obsessive-compulsive disorder and a traumatic relationship with her mother. a heartbreaking and hilarious memoir by icarly and sam & cat star jennette mccurdy about her struggles as a former child actor—including eating disorders, addiction, and a complicated relationship with her overbearing mother—and how she retook control of her life. jennette mccurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. so she went along with what mom called “calorie restriction,” eating little and weighing herself five times a day. she endured extensive at-home makeovers while mom chided, “your eyelashes are invisible, okay? you think dakota fanning doesn’t tint hers?” she was even showered by mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. in i’m glad my mom died, jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail—just as she chronicles what happens when the dream finally comes true. cast in a new nickelodeon series called icarly, she is thrust into fame. though mom is ecstatic, emailing fan club moderators and getting on a first-name basis with the paparazzi (“hi gale!”), jennette is riddled with anxiety, shame, and self-loathing, which manifest into eating disorders, addiction, and a series of unhealthy relationships. these issues only get worse when, soon after taking the lead in the icarly spinoff sam & cat alongside ariana grande, her mother dies of cancer. finally, after discovering therapy and quitting acting, jennette embarks on recovery and decides for the first time in her life what she really wants. told with refreshing candor and dark humor, i’m glad my mom died is an inspiring story of resilience, independence, and the joy of shampooing your own hair.
Reviews:
The story of the struggle for success in Hollywood, particularly that of a reluctant child and an obsessed stage mother is well-worn territory. So what made this worth reading? Ms. McCurdy spent several years as a Nickleodean star in the early 2000s, even dabbling in a recording career. What makes this so compelling is her ability and willingness to share painful and unique details of her life, as well as that of her families' struggles, and how she was manipulated by her Mother and other adults at the network. She draws you in with a competing conversational style, and doesn't hold back on anything. By the end of the book, the reader is left feeling both moved and pleased with her decisions and intelligence in deciding to move beyond the grief left behind by her experiences. I was drawn from page to page and finished it in one sitting. I'll probably reread it more slowly, to be able to contemplate her unsparing exposition of the path she took to reach this point in her life. I wish her well. Buy it!fisheye

8. Deliberate Cruelty: Truman Capote, The Millionaire's Wife, And The Murder Of The Century [Book]

Product Details:
This glittering, “wild romp of a story, boldly and beautifully told” (neal thompson, author of the first kennedys) explores the darkly intertwined fates of infamous socialite ann woodward and literary icon truman capote, sweeping us to the upper echelons of manhattan’s high society—where falls from grace are all the more shocking. when ann woodward shot her husband, banking heir billy woodward, in the middle of the night in 1955, her life changed forever. though she claimed she thought he was a prowler, few believed the woman who had risen from charismatic showgirl to popular socialite. everyone had something to say about the scorching scandal afflicting one of the most rich and famous families of new york city, but no one was more obsessed with the tale than truman capote. acclaimed for his bestselling nonfiction book in cold blood, capote was looking for new material and followed the scandal from beginning to end. like ann, he too had ascended from nobody to toast of the town, but he always felt like an outsider, even among the exclusive coterie of high society women who adored him. he decided the story of ann’s turbulent marriage would be the basis of his masterpiece—a novel about the dysfunction and sordid secrets revealed to him by his high society “swans”—never thinking that it would eventually lead to ann’s suicide and his own scandalous downfall. “a 20th-century morality tale of enduring fascination” (laura thompson, author of the heiresses), deliberate cruelty is a haunting cross between true crime and literary history that is perfect for fans of furious hours, empty mansions, and midnight in the garden of good and evil.
Reviews:
I received this book by Netgalley. While I enjoyed this book I thought it was too long and slow. I had heard of Truman Capote and his In Cold Blood before but did not know a thing about him. This book did give me a better understanding of him and I learned about Ann Woodward. Both Ann and Truman had similar childhoods and they both wanted to be accepted into high society. It was good to see how their lives interconnected through high society, otherwise one would think how does this story have two people who are completely different, connect.Brooke

Instant new york times bestseller “fast and thrilling . . . life undercover reads as if a john le carré character landed in eat pray love." —the new york timesamaryllis fox's riveting memoir tells the story of her ten years in the most elite clandestine ops unit of the cia, hunting the world's most dangerous terrorists in sixteen countries while marrying and giving birth to a daughteramaryllis fox was in her last year as an undergraduate at oxford studying theology and international law when her writing mentor daniel pearl was captured and beheaded. galvanized by this brutality, fox applied to a master's program in conflict and terrorism at georgetown's school of foreign service, where she created an algorithm that predicted, with uncanny certainty, the likelihood of a terrorist cell arising in any village around the world. at twenty-one, she was recruited by the cia. her first assignment was reading and analyzing hundreds of classified cables a day from foreign governments and synthesizing them into daily briefs for the president. her next assignment was at the iraq desk in the counterterrorism center. at twenty-two, she was fast-tracked into advanced operations training, sent from langley to "the farm," where she lived for six months in a simulated world learning how to use a glock, how to get out of flexicuffs while locked in the trunk of a car, how to withstand torture, and the best ways to commit suicide in case of captivity. at the end of this training she was deployed as a spy under non-official cover–the most difficult and coveted job in the field as an art dealer specializing in tribal and indigenous art and sent to infiltrate terrorist networks in remote areas of the middle east and asia. life undercover is exhilarating, intimate, fiercely intelligent–an impossible to put down record of an extraordinary life, and of amaryllis fox's astonishing courage and passion.
Reviews:
This was a really interesting read about the life of a CIA agent and the sacrifices that the agents have to make. It was a real eye opener. The story is about the author's early life, family and how she got recruited by the CIA, training, deployments, and behind the scene's goings on. Although fascinating, I felt that ultimately the agents lead very lonely lives and sacrifice a lot to the job. It must be hard to lie all the time. Some of her dealings with the "enemy" were very insightful and that all that any of us want is peace,no matter who we are.Avid crime reader

New york times bestsellerevicted meets nickel and dimed in stephanie land's memoir about working as a maid, a beautiful and gritty exploration of poverty in america. at 28, stephanie land's plans of breaking free from the roots of her hometown in the pacific northwest to chase her dreams of attending a university and becoming a writer, were cut short when a summer fling turned into an unexpected pregnancy. she turned to housekeeping to make ends meet, and with a tenacious grip on her dream to provide her daughter the very best life possible, stephanie worked days and took classes online to earn a college degree, and began to write relentlessly. she wrote the true stories that weren't being told: the stories of overworked and underpaid americans. of living on food stamps and wic (women, infants, and children) coupons to eat. of the government programs that provided her housing, but that doubled as halfway houses. the aloof government employees who called her lucky for receiving assistance while she didn't feel lucky at all. she wrote to remember the fight, to eventually cut through the deep-rooted stigmas of the working poor. maid explores the underbelly of upper-middle class america and the reality of what it's like to be in service to them. "i'd become a nameless ghost," stephanie writes about her relationship with her clients, many of whom do not know her from any other cleaner, but who she learns plenty about. as she begins to discover more about her clients' lives-their sadness and love, too-she begins to find hope in her own path. her compassionate, unflinching writing as a journalist gives voice to the "servant" worker, and those pursuing the american dream from below the poverty line. maid is stephanie's story, but it's not her alone. it is an inspiring testament to the strength, determination, and ultimate triumph of the human spirit.

Haven't given it to my husband yet (the offender) yet…mjagrammy
This book sounded more like a simple magazine article. It was so lame that I couldn't bring myself to finish it. If you want a good book, there are two that I recommend. One is 'Worthy of Her Trust' and the other is 'The 5 Sex Needs of Him and Her." Don't let the last title fool you…..it's not a sex manual…it's about intimacy and trust.churchgirl101
