1. Real Alchemy: A Primer Of Practical Alchemy [Book]

Product Details:
A ground-breaking modern manual on an ancient art, real alchemy draws on both modern scientific technology and ancient methods. a laboratory scientist and chemist, robert allen bartlett provides an overview of the history of alchemy, as well as an exploration of the theories behind the practice. clean, clear, simple, and easy to read, real alchemy provides excellent directions regarding the production of plant products and transitions the reader-student into the basics of mineral work–what some consider the true domain of alchemy. new students to practical laboratory alchemy will enjoy reading real alchemy and hopefully find the encouragement needed to undertake their own alchemical journey. bartlett also explains what the ancients really meant when they used the term philosopher's stone and describes several very real and practical methods for its achievement. is the fabled philosopher's stone an elixir of long life or is it a method of transforming lead into gold? judge for yourself.
Reviews:
Great value for the information given. Highly recommended.fett555
Provides a great base of knowledge and understanding for anyone looking into the Alchemical arts. Took my understanding of alchemy from being a medieval means of attempting to transmute gold to one of interconnecting life in everything, and the elevation of self.caryh29
It's really good for information on alchemy. I use it for taking notes. I like it overal, I don't really have any gripes about it.Levi
2. Practical Alchemy: A Guide To The Great Work [Book]

Product Details:
A concise guide to the history, theory, and practice of alchemy (the "great work")–the art of working with the energies of nature for spiritual development, healing, and transformation. – alchemy is a means of understanding and working in concert with the energies of nature for spiritual development, healing, and transformation. in this book, brian cotnoir offers a step-by-step introduction that explores alchemy's mysteries while illustrating its use as a modern spiritual system of attainment. – he provides an overview of the history of alchemy, from the first meldings of egyptian technology to the middle ages–the golden age of alchemy–to contemporary techniques. he demystifies the relationship between alchemy and chemistry, and provides evidence that alchemy is much more than a medieval form of psychotherapy. the guide also includes practical laboratory experiments that safely and intelligently lead readers to an understanding of this ancient art and spiritual practice. – provides step-by-step instruction for beginning a practice in alchemy – explains the theory underlying the art and science of alchemy and how it works – demystifies the relationship between alchemy and chemistry, while going well beyond the "psychological interpretation" advanced by nonscientists – introduces the practice of alchemy to students of the western magical arts this book was previously published as the weiser concise guide to alchemy. this new edition includes a foreword by robert allen bartlett, author of real alchemy.
Reviews:
Cornoir's book-version of alchemy can serve neophytes in practical labwork, as a worthy supplement to other manuscripts. If one is interested in a well-rounded, seemingly well-prepared approach (centering alchemy on the system of Kabbala), then please refer to Stavish's The Path of Alchemy. There're many books in recent times that entertain the Royal Art, some are more wealthier than others, Cornoir in my experience falls in the middle of the pack. It's too basic in it's conception, lacking valuable observations of wisdom.krisztiankalasz
3. The Secrets Of Alchemy [Book]

Product Details:
Principe, one of the world’s leading authorities on the subject, brings alchemy out of the shadows and restores it to its important place in human history and culture. by surveying what alchemy was and how it began, developed, and overlapped with a range of ideas and pursuits, principe illuminates the practice. he vividly depicts the place of alchemy during its heyday in early modern europe, and then explores how alchemy has fit into wider views of the cosmos and humanity, touching on its enduring place in literature, fine art, theater, and religion as well as its recent acceptance as a serious subject of study for historians of science. in addition, he introduces the reader to some of the most fascinating alchemists, such as zosimos and basil valentine, whose lives dot alchemy’s long reign from the third century and to the present day. through his exploration of alchemists and their times, principe pieces together closely guarded clues from obscure and fragmented texts to reveal alchemy’s secrets, and—most exciting for budding alchemists—uses them to recreate many of the most famous recipes in his lab, including those for the “glass of antimony” and “philosophers’ tree.” this unique approach brings the reader closer to the actual work of alchemy than any other book.
Reviews:
A look at the bibliography indicates that the writing of this book was no small feat. However, I expected more interpretations of alchemical symbolism than the first few keys of Valentine, and more detailed descriptions of Principes alchemical experiment recreations. The author does do a great job of writing the history of alchemy, from its ancient origins, to its new age misinterpretation, finishing the timeline with the golden age of the 15th to 18th centurys. But the secrets of alchemy are not revealed. Much is still left for the modern enthusiast to decipher. The book was good but fails to deliver what it promises. I would like a sequel that lays out the meaning of the complex symbols and detailed descriptions of the chemical reactions they describe along with modern chemical equations to indicate what is happening.anthonros_81

18. Alchemy: A Passion For Jewels [Book]

Product Details:
An exquisite look into the art of fine jewelry making, through the eyes of famed designer temple st. clair a southern girl with a nomadic spirit and a voracious appetite for history and culture, temple st. clair grew up spending summer vacations in morocco and bavaria, studied at an international boarding school in switzerland, and went night diving in honduras with the son of jacques cousteau. in her early twenties, st. clair landed in florence, where she completed a master's in italian literature. in fact, she had no exposure to jewelry making until her visiting mother bought an ancient coin and asked st. clair to commission a local goldsmith to make a piece of jewelry around it. armed with the coin and a sketch, st. clair entered the ancient palazzo dell'orafo of florentine goldsmiths, where she first discovered the centuries-old art of fine italian jewelry making. inspired by the distinctive craftsmanship, st. clair continued to work with artisans to bring her designs to life. a new world soon began to open up to her—a world that engaged her multicultural education, vast experiences, and rich curiosity; a world that awarded her with a new identity as "an amateur anthropologist, a hopeless hunter and gatherer, a bit of a wanderer, and a self-made jewelry historian who loves to dream and draw." with an artist's eye for detail and an unwavering esteem for the historic, st. clair creates one-of-a-kind pieces that combine ancient influences with traditional craftsmanship and contemporary flair. in alchemy, she takes readers on an idiosyncratic excursion into the intricate history and craft of jewelry making—from the ancient origins of talismans and charms, to the complicated pursuit of the perfect gemstone—all through the lens of her own fascinating experiences. the result is a mesmerizing and visually stunning book that will appeal to jewelry lovers, artistic dreamers, and anyone who suffers from wanderlust.

19. The End Of Alchemy: Money, Banking, And The Future Of The Global Economy [Book]

Product Details:
“if [the end of alchemy] gets the attention it deserves, it might just save the world.” —michael lewis, bloomberg view something is wrong with our banking system. in the end of alchemy he offers us an essential work about the history and future of money and banking, the keys to modern finance. the industrial revolution built the foundation of our modern capitalist age. yet the flowering of technological innovations during that dynamic period relied on the widespread adoption of two much older ideas: the creation of paper money and the invention of banks that issued credit. common paper became as precious as gold, and risky long-term loans were transformed into safe short-term bank deposits. as king argues, this is financial alchemy—the creation of extraordinary financial powers that defy reality and common sense. faith in these powers has led to huge benefits; the liquidity they create has fueled economic growth for two centuries now. however, they have also produced an unending string of economic disasters, from hyperinflations to banking collapses to the recent global recession and current stagnation. king draws on his unique experience to present fresh interpretations of these economic forces and to point the way forward for the global economy. his bold solutions cut through current overstuffed and needlessly complex legislation to provide a clear path to durable prosperity and the end of overreliance on the alchemy of our financial ancestors.
