The subtitle is "The 100 Greatest Cars" and contains a 1911 Mercer Raceabout, 1968 Ferrari and Ford Shelby Mustang. . .and everything unique in between. Beautiful color pictures, along with tight history and descriptions just make it a book to drool over (unless you can afford the actual cars!). I love all that is related to the book's content. The book being very heavy makes me regret how people used to read and learn before screen learning (through computers), was made available. With 9 lbs, of weight, it cannot be read other than in a desk. I wander was it for marketing purpose why they did not divide it into pieces. It is a very good book for some one interested in cars but perhaps not that knowledgeable, probably a young person. For a very mature auto enthusiast there most likely isn't anything new here but that is ok since it will probably remind you of some things that you have forgotten about. A great aspect of the book is that is doesn't just focus on the American car industry. The book delves into the world wide car scene. There is nothing new here in the explanation of what happened to the British car industry. That disaster has been well documented in many books. Parissien's book is a good companion to Halberstam's book, "The Reckoning", which is another essential read for the car buff.warr5309
This is an excellent car for anyone who either collects cars or just loves them and wants to know all about how they came about. Parissien not only focuses on the history of American automobiles and their auto manufacturers but also on British, German, French, Italian and other countries' manufacturers that were (and some still are) in the forefront of automotive innovation. He has included some very nice photographs. I found the book very easy to read and hard to put down once I started getting into it and that was within the first few pages of the first chapter. Using this text for my teenage son who is taking driver education this year. We are homeschooling and this is an awesome book to use for one semester to introduce your teenager to the basic upkeep and maintenance of a vehicle the semester before they actually start the driver education program. Am really impressed by this text so far and there is a student workbook that goes along with it that has activities and worksheets. Wish I had this for my two older sons when I was doing their driver education years ago. Highly recommend this product if you have children just starting to drive or if you just want to know how to do the basic maintenance, etc. and save a few dollars.firemedics17
