Great car book probably the best.oracle280
Exactly what I was looking for. Fabulous book and very detailed, but that what I knew I would get. Great as a one stop shop for my many auto interests, from engineering and design, and does a few deep dives. Booktopia did a great job, with a quality product dispatched promptly. Unfortunately the courier delivering it, decided to put it ON THE GROUND next to my letterbox, instead of either inside or to the door. IN THE RAIN!!! SO ANNOYING. They only said sorry and whether I wanted to make a claim – just fix the process dammit! Packing damaged, book appears ok.Alleenz

The Automobiles in this book are awesome. Real Classic'shelder1944
My husband is quite the car enthusiast and this was a Christmas gift that he is getting a lot out of. The subtitle is "The 100 Greatest Cars" and contains a 1911 Mercer Raceabout, 1968 Ferrari and Ford Shelby Mustang. . .and everything unique in between. Beautiful color pictures, along with tight history and descriptions just make it a book to drool over (unless you can afford the actual cars!). You could call it a "coffee table" book except that it contains so much info and pictures of original cars that it is more of a reference book defining THE cars that shaped the automotive industry.. . .including a 1946 Volkswagen Beetle!spicciati7
6. How To Build A Car [Book]

Product Details:
'adrian has a unique gift for understanding drivers and racing cars. he is ultra competitive but never forgets to have fun. an immensely likeable man.' damon hill the world's foremost designer in formula one, adrian newey obe is arguably one of britain's greatest engineers and this is his fascinating, powerful memoir. how to build a car explores the story of adrian's unrivalled 35-year career in formula one through the prism of the cars he has designed, the drivers he has worked alongside and the races in which he's been involved. a true engineering genius, even in adolescence adrian's thoughts naturally emerged in shape and form – he began sketching his own car designs at the age of 12 and took a welding course in his school summer holidays. adrian has designed for the likes of mario andretti, nigel mansell, alain prost, damon hill, david coulthard, mika hakkinen, mark webber and sebastian vettel, always with a shark-like purity of purpose: to make the car go faster. and while his career has been marked by unbelievable triumphs, there have also been deep tragedies; most notably ayrton senna's death during his time at williams in 1994. beautifully illustrated with never-before-seen drawings, how to build a car encapsulates, through adrian's remarkable life story, precisely what makes formula one so thrilling – its potential for the total synchronicity of man and machine, the perfect combination of style, efficiency and speed.

7. A Man & His Car: Iconic Cars And Stories From The Men Who Love Them [Book]

Product Details:
Man-about-town and nyc men's style fixture matt hranek is back with his second book, a man & his car. here is a beautiful homage to an object of men's obsession, told in firsthand original interviews. jay leno, a major car collector and the host of jay leno's garage, shares the story of his oldest car, a 1955 buick roadmaster that he bought for $350, which he literally slept in before getting his break in l.a. kevin costner reveals that he got so attached to the iconic shelby mustang he drove in the movie bull durham, he bought it for his own personal collection. franz von holzhausen, chief designer at tesla, who worked hand in hand with elon musk to design the tesla model s prototype, says that his love of cars started when he was two (as evidenced by a picture of him sitting in a high chair drawing a car). and as for snoop dogg and his 1965 cadillac "snoop de a man & his car includes visits to some of the most exclusive collections in the world–from that of the petersen automotive museum to those of car manufacturers from fiat to alfa romeo–giving us access to steve mc – queen's favorite car, a 1956 jaguar xkss; the 1971 de – tomaso pantera that elvis purchased for his then-girlfriend linda thompson (and which has two bullet holes in the steering wheel and one in the driver's-side floorpan from when, after an altercation with thompson, presley fired three rounds into the interior when the car wouldn't start); and a super-rare, 24-karat-gold-plated 1980 de – lorean dmc-12, a model that was sold exclusively to american express gold card members through the 1980 american express catalog, for an astronomical $85,000 (equivalent to more than $250,000 today). exquisite photos of each car accompany each story, and since cars naturally hold more detail than watches, there will be more photos in this book–of the cars head-on, of their hood ornaments and wheels, and of course full-body shots. with hranek's storytelling, the cars become more than just vehicles for transportation and status symbols; they represent pop-culture moments, pioneering achievements, heirlooms, friendships, and more.

Reviews:
Love it. It is witty, entertaining and funny.Laura13
This book is 1) weird and 2) inappropriate for young children. The worst parts are a “speed demon” that essentially tries to take Mater “into the light” when he goes too fast and breaks apart. Lightning and Mater also meet conspirators who look for Big Foot, which is odd but not bad for a kids book, but they all get tied up by who they think is Big Foot then do a fairly scary scene (for a 2-3 year old) of scaring the hunters away. They talk about clowns being scary, and Mater finds a dinosaur museum tour so boring he falls asleep. Just leaving the review I wish I had seen before pre-ordering what I thought would be a classic Cars book. (Also, it came a week later than projected, which frustrated me at first, but honestly it was a good week less of having this book in my house.)Rmast

Reviews:
Very concise and covers a lot of cars many that you will never have heard of, that in itself is reason enough to buy a copy of this book to have in your library, but even better is it becomes a quick over view reference on just about any sports car you can think of if you want a quick introduction to that car. Will it be a thorough reference on all the cars contained in the work, of course not but as a handy reference to get you started on just about any car from the period, it is very useful. A lot of bang for the buck… this one is…jmswhidbey
I can only recommend the book within this context, as a source of good car pix, many and varied. In such light it is fine. However, for information about the various marques… not so much. Too much of the information is hit or miss, or just downright missing (though apparently available to other authors) and some presented info is incorrect. The catch (22) is that the reader has to already know which is which inorder to try and use the info presented. It is as if the author had the pictures and did an "encyclopedia" to justify publishing them. We'd all have been better served if Mr. D.R.L. Box had simply offered a coffee-table book more fully exploiting the pictures. However, in any event, the price is right.barper
This book is very informative with great photos too. It helps me to pin point certain cars I wish to learn more about. I find it a great addition to my collection on the subject. I love the history of cars. I think anyone who likes cars would like this book. The book came to me in great shape. Happy to have it . Thanks. Sincerely, Rick L.lapla.richa

Best 1-volume account of saab's corporate and engineering history, with lovely photosmihow1
The book is very good on the styling and exterior design of the cars and the text is good on aerodynamics, al though it lacks images/diagrams of the aero/ wind tunnel work. Good biographical info on designers. It is not strong on the engines or suspension and handling design and development, Hardly any engine details or images, lack of understanding by the author on two-stroke technology (why a freewheel was necessary) and the need for intercooling on turbo cars. The same problems with suspension and braking systems. It doesn't live up to the tag line of 'the complete story'. The images that are included are all very good, but only show the pretty stuff. It literally doesn't get below the surface of the cars.lc328
