Reviews:
Took me a while to find a book that focused on health and wellness for women by a woman. It's a really interesting read filled with interesting athlete stories, eating guides, exercise examples and information backed up by research. While I found it was aimed more for athletes (which I am not), there's a lot I took away.GraceK

3. The Calorie Myth: How To Eat More, Exercise Less, Lose Weight, And Live Better [Book]

Product Details:
What if everything you thought you knew about weight loss was wrong? from the convenience of our smartphones to the technology in our hospitals, scientific advancement allows us to live better. in the calorie myth, jonathan bailor exposes the fundamental flaw upon which the diet industry is built and offers a new equation: eat more + exercise less = weight loss – if calorie math added up, 100 calories of vegetables = 100 calories of candy. that doesn't seem right—because it's not. while some calories fuel weight loss, others work against us. in the calorie myth, bailor shows us how eating more of the right kinds of foods and exercising less, but at a higher intensity, is the true formula for burning fat and boosting metabolism. – why? because eating high-quality foods, like whole-food plants, proteins, and fats, balances the hormones that regulate your metabolism. eating poor-quality foods, like refined starches, sweets, and processed foods, causes a hormonal imbalance, throwing your metabolism off kilter and causing you to store food as fat—regardless of how many calories you consume. – in this revolutionary weight-loss program informed by more than 1,200 scientific studies, bailor offers clear, comprehensive guidance on what to eat and why, providing an eating plan, recipes, and a simple yet effective exercise regimen. – losing weight doesn't have to mean going hungry or spending hours at the gym. don't let outdated calorie math stand between you and the life you want: discover the new science of weight loss with the calorie myth.

5. Nutrition In Crisis: Flawed Studies, Misleading Advice, And The Real Science Of Human Metabolism [Book]

Product Details:
"why low carb should be the default approach for managing and preventing metabolic syndrome and other chronic diseases. almost every day it seems a new study is published that shows you are at risk for diabetes, cardiovascular disease, or all-cause mortality due to something you've just eaten for lunch. many of us no longer know what to eat or who to believe. in the nutrition revolutiont; distinguished biochemist richard feinman, phd, cuts through the noise, explaining the intricacies of nutrition and human metabolism in accessible terms. he lays out the tools you need to navigate the current confusion in the medical literature and its increasingly bizarre reflection in the media. at the same time, the nutrition revolution offers an unsparing critique of the nutritional establishment, which continues to demonize fat and refute the benefits of low-carbohydrate and ketogenic diets, all despite decades of evidence to the contrary. feinman tells the story of the first low-carbohydrate revolution fifteen years ago, how it began, what killed it, and why a second revolution is now reaching a fever pitch. he exposes the backhanded tactics of a regressive nutritional establishment that ignores good data and common sense, and highlights the innovative work of those researchers who have broken rank. entertaining, informative, and irreverent, feinman paints a broad picture of the nutrition world: the beauty of the underlying biochemistry; the embarrassing failures of the medical establishment; the preeminence of low-carbohydrate diets for weight loss, diabetes, other metabolic diseases, and even cancer; and what's wrong with the constant reports that common foods represent a threat rather than a source of pleasure."–

Reviews:
There's a tremendous amount of raw data in here with many sources cited, and it has a good index which really will help you. This is very good for drawing deductions. Still good, and there's some lost information here. This is written in a very easy to read manner, and as I said, you really need to use this with the index. Don't get the later revised 1981 edition which had a few unnecessary precautions like about Vitamin A (which yes can be dangerous but it's very hard to do that and Tylenol is much more dangerous) I first found this book circa 1980 in hardcover. It really can help, if you thinksammy_finkelman8vok
Adelle Davis creates a balanced world of simple ways to begin to direct your own pathway to good health. I believe it's never too late to adopt some of her guidelines to better lifestyle changes. When we see results from illness which the medical establishment cannot 'cure' but by surgery or worse treatment, then we need to become accepting of Davis's forthright recommendations. She has passed on but her legacy is as true today as it was in her days, even more so as the world digresses into outright anarchy of opinion and greater Big Pharma rulings controlling the established Medical Companies. I enjoyed her index and Simple Solutions based on scientific bodily systems working together on an individual basis. Learning to get know our own bodies is as important as ever it was.—kathydjandkate

How Not to Diet: The Groundbreaking Science of Healthy Permanent Weight Loss is the sequel to Dr. Michael Greger s How Not to Die. As you might imagine Dr. Greger looks at the science behind weight loss. One of the differences between Dr. Greger and other whole-food plant-based diet proponents is the amount of scientific study that is reference. In this almost 600-page book almost 5 000 scientific sites are referenced – and yes if you want to read the study yourself Dr. Greger has links to them for you. Much in keeping with his previous book he begins by arguing against the standard American diet and in favor of a whole-foods plant-based diet that is “microbiome friendly rich in fruits and vegetables rich in legumes and satisfying” (table of contents). After this he moves into two sections on weight-loss itself: “weight-loss boosters” and “Dr. Greger s twenty-one tweaks.” The twenty-one tweaks were the most exciting part of the book for me – as someone who needs to lose weight. I am not going to list them all here because you should buy the book but I will say that I have added several of them into my daily routine and I have begun to lose weight. I have added not eating after 7 PM drinking water before each meal adding an amount of ginger and cayenne pepper and front-loading calories during the day – having my largest calorie meal first and the least last. You can read his explanations of why these and other tweaks can help. I have been on a whole-foods plant-based diet – for the most part – for some time but I am also on medications that cause weight gain so I am encouraged that what he recommends is starting to help me. It s well worth the try.Peter B.J.
I liked everything about the expediency, by which I received these treasured books, I had stumbled upon at my local library!! Target is my favorite on/line resource for instant gratification of my favorite subject matter!! Thank you Target!!Happness

Reviews:
I was first alerted to this book by a lady traveller I was sat next to on an internal flight in the USA nearly two years ago. The moment I returned home I ordered it from my local library. If you're interested in your own (& those dear to you) personal diet, health and wellbeing you need to read this book. Since reading it I mainly eat fish, difficult when my wife has never, as an adult, eaten fish and have reduced my red meat consumption down to a minimum as well as eating a great many more seeds, grains, fruit and juice. I've also reduced my alcohol consumption. I've now bought my own copy as a result of my eldest son's interest – he's 25, stopped smoking and living a healthier lifestyle.ltehome
This book is my Bible. I've been studying raw whole foods diets for many years, and although I am a lay person, I know how I feel …and LOOK … when I eat this way. This book does an excellent job of presenting well-researched, even academic, material in a highly readable, easy-to-grasp manner…complete with lots of graphs and charts that, for visual learners like me, demonstrate the text in a flash. The film, Forks Over Knives, was my first introduction to the concepts covered in The China Study, and watching it made me hungry for more info. Dr. Campbell is a fearless pioneer in his field, one to be admired and respected.jamaica-judy
This book was written by a research doctor and explains why we get sick & fat and backs it all up with 30 years of research data. Also, it is NOT selling any product or service (like weight watchers). It just explains how to improve your health and the reasoning behind the recommendations. It also explains the economic reasons why, even though they know, our government, drug companies and most doctors will not tell the American public about it. I have lost weight, lowered my Blood Pressure about 30 points to 120/73 and my cholesterol dropped from 204 to 146 in 3 weeks by just changing the way I eat. After 2 heart attacks (and bypass surgery) I finally got serious about my health. Get this book, it costs about the same as a Super Sized meal @ McDonalds and can change your life for the better in just weeks.GLGINAZ

Reviews:
If you want to get healthy read this book! Ive been grain free for awhile and used to be dairy free until the pandemic. My functional medicine doctor was going over my lab results because they always take blood, and said I have inflammation and I need to eliminate dairy. Which I have. Always read the labels and ask at restaurants if dairy is present. Its a hormone disruptor and causes inflammation which causes weight gain. I gained 10 pounds and have lost 5 so far after ditching dairy.coleworldkaren
This book is a step by step guide with full menu and day planning. I carried out the detox to great effect. Highly recommended, Dr Hyman makes sound points.ct7oaks
To complicated, it drags on and loses my interest, just to much blah blah blah. I got the "Diabetic cookbook for the newly diagnosed" by Jamie press, it was straight to the point, didn't try to dazzle with words and the recipes are easy normal affordable recipes with a few gourmet. It works for me.zquinn1

Reviews:
I admire Cher and personally find her one of the most attractive people on this planet. When I saw this book, I knew I had to have it. She gives me a motivational talk in every paragraph. I tend to skip over the other author but it's a great read regardless. After I watched a few interviews of hers, I realized I liked her approach to fitness and diet. This book is a must have and for the price, you can't beat this deal. It arrived in great condition and I have no complaints about the state of the book.evkavi0
I took this out from my local library years ago on a whim. I do not read celeb fitness books, but from Cher I am willing to take advice! I think this is a no nonsense approach to fitness. I had to order a copy! Timeless. I loved reading about her journey and found this to be an overall fun book to study. I have to admit though, Cher is my beauty icon….just saying!kristync
