This book along with meds and a low demand environment has been very helpful. It is fab the way it is interactive and fun and encourages the child to really get involved and explain how they feel. Just brilliant.ewansmummy2013
This book was originally recommended to me by my oldest child's pediatrician when my son's fear of tornados started turning into an obsession that was stressing him out all the time. This workbook is great! Work through it with your child, a little at a time, so they have a chance to practice the techniques they are learning. Great way to stay positive and upbeat and still help your child deal with their obsessive/ compulsive behaviors and even helped with anxiety.772kt

Reviews:
A very interesting and informative book thanksrobareartwork27
Illustrations within are minimal, which is disappointing as it looks like a book that is suppose to appeal to the “rest of us”. Most of us learn far better with images than literary. The creators should keep that in mind, because teaching through a book can be more ineffective than tutoring so it needs more oomph to make info stay in the learner’s mind. I am very familiar with this series and I understand that a lot of research and thorough editing is involved before they release their books. But it always surprises me when ever they bust a myth, and it is then that you really feel like you learnt something valuable. With knowledge comes power.
A real insight into OCD Well written a must for any suffererslhod3119
8. Everything Is An Emergency: An Ocd Story In Words And Pictures [Book]

Product Details:
A new yorker cartoonist brings to life his struggle with ocd through his arresting drawings and inimitable comedic voice, illuminating his daily battle to feel comfortable in the world–and ultimately make room for a life without limitations.shaking hands, second dates, using the public restroom…. for most people, these are ordinary routines of daily life. but for jason katzenstein, these mundane events are a cause for alarm. in short: his brain is broken. but his brain is also creative, and so devises a coping mechanism to protect itself from the worst thoughts and feelings by performing rituals called "compulsions" that help jason work through fears of contamination, guilt, panic, and relationships. yes: jason has ocd. for a while, jason's solution is to hide his more embarrassing compulsions, and simply adjust expectations for what his life will look like. that doesn't seem so bad considering his worst bits were also turning him into a successful cartoonist. but for jason, making art isn't just something he's good at: it's a survival tactic–an oasis in the anxiety-filled desert. but just when jason thinks he has this ocd all figured out, all hell breaks loose. sometimes it's on a crowded subway car, sometimes it's when he has to care for a stray kitten. hard to predict. even harder to live with. finally, jason dives into the difficult work he's long put off: exposure therapy, medication, and group therapy. and to no one's great surprise, he finds that this stuff actually works in fact, for the first time, he feels like he's swimming instead of treading water, or even drowning. activities that have always felt off-limits begin to feel less so: maybe i can be a father one day, fall in love, use the bathroom at a bar insightful, hilarious, and moving, everything is an emergency is jason's way of showing us that ocd can be funny in addition to being difficult, and though there might be dead ends and deep holes, there are also ways out of these holes. and as jason has discovered, while unmaking habits is hard, nothing worth doing is ever easy.

Product Details:
The definitive classic that has helped more than 400,000 people defeat obsessive-compulsive behavior, with all-new material from the authoran estimated 5 million americans suffer from obsessive-compulsive disorder (ocd) and live diminished lives in which they are compelled to obsess about something or to repeat a similar task over and over. traditionally, ocd has been treated with prozac or similar drugs. the problem with medication, aside from its cost, is that 30 percent of people treated don't respond to it, and when the pills stop, the symptoms invariably return. schwartz, m.d., presents a simple four-step method for overcoming ocd that is so effective, it's now used in academic treatment centers throughout the world. proven by brain-imaging tests to actually alter the brain's chemistry, this method doesn't rely on psychopharmaceuticals. instead, patients use cognitive self-therapy and behavior modification to develop new patterns of response to their obsessions. in essence, they use the mind to fix the brain. using the real-life stories of actual patients, brain lock explains this revolutionary method and provides readers with the inspiration and tools to free themselves from their psychic prisons and regain control of their lives.

This is a brilliant read and was super helpful to assist with OCD. Gave great insight as welll as tool to help with mindfulness. I wish I found this book earlier.Jean
Bought this book to help my daughter with OCD. Got ebook for instant access and so that I could print out pages for her, she's 12 so I wouldn't expect her to read it in it's entirety. This version has to be downloaded using abode digital and is restricted. A heads up would have been nice. Only way for me to get around this is to take a screen shot of the page from my PC, email it to myself and print it from photoshop. Painful, but worth it to get some relief from this all consuming illness.ThefixerUpperer

An estimated 2-3% of the population is affected by obsessive-compulsive disorder (ocd). this is a chronic condition that significantly affects daily functioning and quality of life. many people with ocd would greatly benefit from receiving professional help to learn how to successfully manage this debilitating condition. this workbook aims to guide patients of obsessive-compulsive disorder (ocd) in how to best benefit from the treatment provided by their therapists. treatments addressed in this publication include exposure and ritual (response) prevention, an effective, evidence-based treatment for this disorder. designed to be used in conjunction with its companion therapist guide titled exposure and ritual (response) prevention for obsessive compulsive disorder, this workbook includes an exposure and ritual prevention treatment program which is broken down into 17 – 20 biweekly treatment sessions. during these sessions the patient will be gradually exposed to situations and places that trigger his or her ocd symptoms. the goal is that over time the ocd sufferer comes to realize that the things he or she fears will not necessarily occur if the rituals are not performed. some exposures will be supervised by the therapist, but the workbook can help the patient to practice on their own at home in order to overcome some of the barriers and difficulties that are part and parcel of every treatment.
