Reviews:
Crichton was a good author, but this is his poorest effort. It reads like it was written by a high school student. Not terrible, but not up to his usual standards.horestes12
I purchased this book as a gift to my husband. He really enjoyed this book; said he couldn't put it down. He recently became a fan of Michael Crichton; so if you enjoy his books this one should not let you down.jjoh1605

Reviews:
Wow! Pirates have green teeth. They never go to bed early or read a story, or do anything that is right and proper! A superb read for pre schoolers, who always enjoy stories about people who are 'naughtier' than themselves. (In a nice sort of way!) The little fellow in the story imagines/dreams an adventure with pirates and finds out that maybe a pirate's life isn't so grand at all… he really misses a bed time story and being tucked in! The illustrations are wild. Colourful, exaggerated and vivid. Definitely a males' eye- view and imagery of a Pirate's life me Hearties!
I purchased this book for my nephew's son whom loves pirates for his birthday. He is going to be 4 years old and just started preschool. The vivid illustrations alone would hold is attention. To be honest, I didn't read all the book. Mom and dad express to me that he is going to be happy with this choice. I love hard covered books.Claire
My 3 1/2 year old son LOVES pirates! This book portrays them a little rough, but not MEAN. I love the message that pirates are great, but they don´t do all the things that Mommy does (tuck you in, read a story, etc.). There are beautiful illustrations on every page!SraDelaTorre

I stumbled across this book by accident one day and I'm glad I did! This is great, especially for teens into the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. A wonderfully written story and heavily referenced from an informational pirates book, Pirates! tells a tale about two girls who become pirates to avoid an evil pirate who wants to marry one of the girls. I really liked this book and couldn't put it down!migratialcoconut
If you are searching for a story that has action, adventure and strong female characters (one white, one black) look no further. Interested in other books to entice your reader? I also recommend these titles with strong female characters the entire family will enjoy- not just the girls : Inkheart by Cornelia Funke, I, Coriander by Sally Gardner, Saffy's Angel by Hillary McKay, and The Dark Hills Divide by Patrick Carman, just to name a few. As an elementary school librarian the range and depth of children's literature today is simply wonderful!! Enjoy this story. I did. NOTE: this story more mature than others listed above. Some violence and mature language.corvairsummer

I purchased this book for a four year (girl) who is very interested in pirates and what life was like for pirates ("Why didn't they take baths? What did they eat? Why did they want gold?"). While it is aimed at older children, the history of pirates can be very accessible to younger children with a lot of adult explanation. The book has a wonderful table of contents with pictures that correspond to the subject of each "chapter." This allows my daughter to choose which subject she wants to read about. We only make it few a few pages each time we read. The book has the benefit of teaching younger children the idea that things were different in the past (the concept of historical change.)gorditer
