1. 12 Rules For Life: An Antidote To Chaos [Book]

Product Details:
#1 national bestseller #1 international bestsellerwhat does everyone in the modern world need to know? renowned psychologist jordan b. peterson's answer to this most difficult of questions uniquely combines the hard-won truths of ancient tradition with the stunning revelations of cutting-edge scientific research.humorous, surprising and informative, dr. peterson tells us why skateboarding boys and girls must be left alone, what terrible fate awaits those who criticize too easily, and why you should always pet a cat when you meet one on the street.what does the nervous system of the lowly lobster have to tell us about standing up straight (with our shoulders back) and about success in life? why did ancient egyptians worship the capacity to pay careful attention as the highest of gods? what dreadful paths do people tread when they become resentful, arrogant and vengeful? peterson journeys broadly, discussing discipline, freedom, adventure and responsibility, distilling the world's wisdom into 12 practical and profound rules for life. 12 rules for life shatters the modern commonplaces of science, faith and human nature, while transforming and ennobling the mind and spirit of its readers.
Reviews:
I have just ordered two more copies, after only reading the intro.—and Prof. Peterson's numerous interviews simply expand my own heart. In this climate of high anxiety and appalling lack of compassion, echoed by Hugh MacKay in AUSTRALIA REIMAGINED. It is no wonder that he has an enthralled audience of millions, world- wide. My wish is that Prof. Peterson will produce a primer affirming our children and youth, to give them hope— for our learning young to master before they get to our Uni's. that have to do their own serious reflecting. In my opinion. AND to give our valiant teachers stronger morale and endurance—as so vividly depicted in Gabbie Stroud's TEACHER, also published last year. Finally, the more I devour of the Prof.'s 'Rules' the more I want to yell my rental's roof off , in agreement—our kids CAN be brought up in a far better world, if we follow Jordan's example of such raw courage and exemplary scholarship and teaching. I only wish that I could buy another 12 copies to share around !KCKLL
This is the third book I purchase as a gift. Jordan Peterson tells it as it is in how one should behave to be a functional human being in society. This is sadly supposed to be the role of parents but not many parents nurture their kids anymore by teaching them the basic life skills. I've seen so many young people can't keep their own room organised yet trying to solve the world's most complex problem. Let's keep it to basic – stand up straight, make yourself better than who you are yesterday and clean up your room before you try to solve any life's complex problem. You will be more content and happier in life and no longer feeling depressed all the time. Great for both men, women and anyone. I'm a woman who loves this book. This book has changed my life!!This book changes my life
An excellent book written with great depth and understanding about living a life. It is necessary to read at least twice to get a more complete picture of what Peterson is on about. Best of all this book made me think deeply about living a life and the ultimate ending of that life. Highly recommended but only to serious readers and certainly not for shallow thinking people.Bob

Discover an empowering new way of understanding your multifaceted mind—and healing the many parts that make you who you are.is there just one “you”? yet dr. richard schwartz’s research now challenges this “mono-mind” theory. “all of us are born with many sub-minds—or parts,” says dr. “these parts are not imaginary or symbolic. they are individuals who exist as an internal family within us—and the key to health and happiness is to honor, understand, and love every part.” dr. schwartz’s internal family systems (ifs) model has been transforming psychology for decades. with no bad parts, you’ll learn why ifs has been so effective in areas such as trauma recovery, addiction therapy, and depression treatment—and how this new understanding of consciousness has the potential to radically change our lives. here you’ll explore: – the ifs revolution—how honoring and communicating with our parts changes our approach to mental wellness – overturning the cultural, scientific, and spiritual assumptions that reinforce an outdated mono-mind model – the ego, the inner critic, the saboteur—making these often-maligned parts into powerful allies – burdens—why our parts become distorted and stuck in childhood traumas and cultural beliefs – how ifs demonstrates human goodness by revealing that there are no bad parts – the self—discover your wise, compassionate essence of goodness that is the source of healing and harmony – exercises for mapping your parts, accessing the self, working with a challenging protector, identifying each part’s triggers, and moreifs is a paradigm-changing model because it gives us a powerful approach for healing ourselves, our culture, and our planet. as dr. schwartz teaches, “our parts can sometimes be disruptive or harmful, but once they’re unburdened, they return to their essential goodness.

I am a self-help book skeptic, journalist, science communicator, really not into 'woo' or magical thinking and consider this one of the most significant non-fiction reads I've ever picked up. I have been recommending it right, left and center as an ideal follow on for anyone who found some resonance with The Body Keeps the Score, works in advocacy, social work or education or has experience with burnout, vicarious trauma, caring or complex family environments. What happens to people who are not completely rational (in the economic sense)? Can we really expect people to maximize their utility in all decisions? What are the most common mistakes people make when they face a decision? Plous is one of the leading experts in decision making and he has managed to come down to the level of us lay people to explain the way psychology tricks us in making decisions. Read this book if you want to be aware of the biases and mental shortcuts that lead people to make the wrong evaluations and take sub-optimal decisions. Although the book does not provide a cure for these biases, just being aware of them should help you to become a better decision maker.susanavelez23

Brings together alot of studies I have read about elsewhere. Easy read but requires thinking about what has been read to gain understanding in other situations. Like the idea of "Test" before the book is read in order to prevent hindsight bias, ie "Oh, I knew that" thinking. Will recommend to others.1585

Its a very little book, its more an introduction in psychology good for beginners and easy to understand.cornst5
I've always been interested in psychology, and this book allowed me to start learning more about it. It discusses several research conducted by various persons throughout history, as well as who agreed or disagreed with whom. Such experiments like Pavlov's dogs are discussed in even philosophy texts, and I would have no idea who Pavlov is or what the dogs meant if I hadn't read this book beforehand. Something like the Cognitive method also drew my attention, since Jean Piaget's query of why children produced inaccurate answers rather than looking to see if children of similar ages made similar errors was an intriguing approach to the mind. Stanley's obedience experiment piqued my interest because his subjects were ordered to increase the voltage while being aware that at a certain level, the other person would die, but 65 percent of the participants went to the lethal level, demonstrating how dangerous it is to merely obey orders. This is a book that I strongly suggest.Sebastian_
