Reviews:
Incredible book! My husband and I both loved it. Highly recommend!makenzieH
Purchased for my mom's birthday. She enjoyed following this story when it was in the news. Book arrived quickly. Beautiful pictures in the book from my quick browsing through. She can't wait to read it!Justine
I read this book aloud to my boys, ages 12, 7 and 5, and we all loved it! It’s hard to find one book that will keep their attention due to their age ranges but this book did the trick. The pictures helped! My boys loved putting faces to names. From start to finish we were completely captivated by this book. I thought the author, Christina Soontornvat, did a fantastic job including lots of good detail for the reader and relaying all the information in a straightforward understandable manner without getting too technical. Throughout the book I kept thinking her research must have been no small feat. Soontornvat made you feel as if you were right there as decisions were being made and actions being taken. You learned about the soccer players, their wonderful relationship with their coach and the rescue team. It was a real treat for the reader to learn about everything that was not shown on the news, all the behind the scene discussions and events that took place. The photographs (and words) included in the book helped “see” the true dedication of all the people involved in rescuing these boys from start to finish and the obstacles they faced and the decisions they had to make. You felt like you were right there in the middle of all the action! I also really liked how the author had sections in the book touching upon the Thai culture as this helped the reader understand the dynamics at play. All in all, this book surpassed my expectations, and I learned so much about this traumatic yet successful rescue.
