I loved Louna's romantic relationship with Ethan and her evolving relationship with Ambrose. These three characters and (discovering if) my hopes for their futures were the only things that made me continue reading the story. Although the plot to the story wasn't enjoyed by myself, I think many others would like it. My favourite part of the storyline was the ending, not because the story ended but it was what I hoped for and envisioned.S.E.N

I LOVE Sarah Dessen. I will read whatever she comes out with no matter how old I am. What I really love about her books is I am immediately taken back to 16 with every one. I thought this was a perfect summer read and very relevant to today's culture. I don't really understand why no one really liked this book, I think it is one of my favorites. Also let's talk about the names in this book because they are kind of strange Louna, Ambrose, Jilly, Michael Salem??? However, I did feel toward the end the book was dragging on. You already knew what was going to happen and were literally just waiting for Louna to stop being such a baby, but I understand. All in all, I really did like this book and I will continue reading Sarah Dessen even as a twenty-something female.brittany.r

Can I give is 0 stars? Love Hypothesis is the ONLY reason this book has any sort of HYPE. This book and characters are terrible. Its like the book has an agenda made by the author… MC is absolutely unlikable, feminist liberal with a nasty attitude and woe is me personality. Which absolutely insults and overshadows actual women in the real world, whose profession hold much respect for their intelligence in the fields this MC is. THIS BOOK IS GARBAGE. Just skip it. To me, this book read a lot more like Women’s Fiction than a true romance. The author had her work cut out for her, she had to cover six years worth of feelings within 320pgs. Did I go to like the characters? Yes. Did I FEEL the love they had for each other? No, not really. I just wanted to feel the connection they shared and get lost in those feelings with them, unfortunately there was just so much of those six years left untold. An incredible thriller with themes of racism and gentrification that had me absolutely addicted! Alyssa Cole's writing kept me hooked throughout, and I finished this in one night because I just had to know what was going to happen next. It takes the reader on a journey of emotional highs and lows. It has all the elements which touch our heart; love, hope, tragedy and disappointment. As a cradle Catholic, I found this book difficult. I struggled with the perspective of being written by Jesus' wife Ana. It would have been more in keeping with my upbringing if the perspective had been that of Mary Magdalen. I usually pass my books along, I will not do that with this book. Our book club has a diverse membership, our Jewish members are not familiar with the New Testament, and they struggled with keeping the characters straight. Our Indian members had similar struggles, but they had some knowledge of the complete Bible. We are a well educated group of women, doctors, engineers, teachers, lawyers, etc. Definitely not a book I will recommend.RosieG

Audible version review: The story was decent and the narration was great. However, when she described anything, everything, and all things, the book became incredibly, astonishingly, and boringly repetitive . I don't need 3 adjectives to describe the color blue (cerulean, turquoise and crystal) , the snow sitting on the mountain (bright white with a million sparkling diamonds in the shining sun) AND the sound of the boat as it laps, slaps, and caresses the waves. It got to the point that I would entertain myself by counting the number of adjectives the author gave each time she describe what something looked like. The bond between the siblings is so well portrayed, it's impossible not to feel for them. Like Anne Tyler, Patchett manages to make the lives of fairly ordinary people doing fairly ordinary things worth reading about. Patchett's prose is wonderful: "The madder Maeve got, the more thoughtful she became. In this way she reminded me of our father – every word she spoke came individually wrapped" and "Her wrist looked like ten pencils bundles together". And that striking cover? Ann Patchett's writing is always completely absorbing. It is so easy to be swept away, despite being so elegant and restrained. For a novel that covers such a big portion of time, it is very intimate. The external world seems to have no bearing here, these lives are presented to us almost without context. And I think it is this, and the singular narrative voice, that creates such heightened intimacy. As a reader we aren't given any greater insight, we can only see what Danny sees. It is oddly disconcerting and not something I've ever experience as a reader before, but it is such a clever way to paint a portrait of a life. Only Patchett could craft something so narrow, yet it is filled with so much meaning. I'm also sure that Patchett is the only writer who could make me Danny work as a character and narrator. He is generally self-absorbed and unaware of the world and the people around him. He cannot see beyond himself, does not see himself beyond the immediate, and it is his obliviousness that makes him possessive – of his sister, his memories, the house. He knows all of these things, people and places but only through his narrow lens. Always the women around to save him from himself. He is the frustrating voice through which we traverse time in the novel, which makes us as a reader oblivious to what is happening until suddenly we can see a bigger picture. Only Patchett could make it work. In the end, as with all of Patchett's books, it is about the people who make up a life – innocent and guilty, forgiven and unforgiven in the same moment – and how it just keeps going one way or another; the circular nature of it.Hannah2020

A incredibly powerful memoir about how a young daughter of a large isolationist, religious family that views government hospitals and schools with great suspicion grows up and through a series of decisions becomes a Harvard and Cambridge educated scholar. This story provides the space to contemplate some difficult but highly relevant topics such as self identity vs family ties, ones childhood memories vs memories of others you grew up with, loving ones family even when one's been ostracized. While some of the childhood stories are dark in nature and even frightening at times, it's also really funny at many points. Overall, just an incredibly powerful story that touches on self identity, self preservation, growing past very difficult childhood challenges, learning to deal with dysfunctional families, and ultimately about being true to ones self.jbtwarehouse

Difficult to read. Impossible to put down. A powerful, powerful book that you shouldn’t miss. I can’t just leave it at that because Tara Westover’s story deserves more than those few words. I don’t often read memoirs, but when I do I want them to be told by extraordinary people who have a meaningful story to tell and that would be faint praise for this book. It sounds odd to say how beautifully written this is because we are not spared of the ugly details of what this family was about, but yet it is beautifully written. I have mixed feelings about this book. It was a difficult read, and for numerous reasons, the first being Tara's childhood. It's very difficult to imagine her life when I have no reference point, having had a "normal" childhood. She has no reference point to compare to her traumatic childhood, thus bringing her to spontaneously go back to her childhood home periodically, with the hope that things would change for the better. Her quest for knowledge outweighed her fears of failure, although failure was always a component in her mind. Her strength overcame her weaknesses, which is an amazing attainment! I must commend her for her continued drive to survive her past, and become a hero for others to admire and respect. Take the time to read this eye-opening memoir!Nancee

An excellent depiction of life in rural Kentucky during the Great Depression. Brave women ride horses to deliver books to those who need them most and have the least access. Somewhat informative, light reading. Sort of a Ripley's Believe It or Not about the"Human Condition." If you've read a lot of science, nothing new here. Even so, somewhat interesting in a "Ripley's Believe It or Not" sort of way. Learnt a few things. Not a "Laugh out Loud" book as some of Bryson's first books were.
