I couldn't put it down! I read this book in a weekend, and had to basically pry myself away from it! Incredible storyline with captivating characters, this was a novel that I honestly didn't expect to be this good! There's a bit of romance, suspense and a whole lot of emotion – all rolled in to one very well-written novel! Read. This. Book!wendy.s
I listened to THE FOUR WINDS BY KRISTIN HANNAH on audible, her latest novel. It is a harrowing story of the strength of women during the Great Depression and how negative words spoken to us as a child can color how we see ourselves as adults. A lot of this book is about long horrible struggles of the main characters, but it is well written with its descriptive writing that paints a clear picture. Engrossing narration of you choose the audible versionkathryn.c
2. The Four Winds: A Novel [Book]
Product Details:
From kristin hannah, the #1 new york times bestselling author of the nightingale and the great alone, comes an epic novel of love and heroism and hope, set against the backdrop of one of america's most defining eras–the great depression. texas, 1934. millions are out of work and a drought has broken the great plains. farmers are fighting to keep their land and their livelihoods as the crops are failing, the water is drying up, and dust threatens to bury them all. one of the darkest periods of the great depression, the dust bowl era, has arrived with a vengeance. in this uncertain and dangerous time, elsa martinelli–like so many of her neighbors–must make an agonizing choice: fight for the land she loves or go west, to california, in search of a better life. the four winds is an indelible portrait of america and the american dream, as seen through the eyes of one indomitable woman whose courage and sacrifice will come to define a generation.
Reviews:
Way too depressing No more. The tiny bit of light at the end was far too small to make up for all the sadness. The notes at the end tell us her family lost someone dear in this pandemic so it appears Ms Hannah wants to be sure everyone shares her grief. We are already there. I needed something to lift me above today’s darkness and this sure wasn’t it. I can’t recommend it to anyone and will in fact recommend my friends NOT to read it. Unfortunately I know some have already bought it. I’ll not buy any more by her. This review was inspired by another reviewer. It is NOT a feel good book at all. I liked learning more about the events of the times, but wish I would not of brought myself into this deeply dark book.Mtreader
Heartrending & beautiful Dust Bowl elegy. Raised as a recluse in a house without love, former rich girl Elsa stumbles out into the world when she's about to become a mother. A selfless immigrant family teaches her what it means to tend things–the land, her loved ones, and eventually herself. She grows from a timid girl, who has learned how to be invisible, to a warrior, brave enough to take on any challenge to provide a life and future for her children. I found the growth of the mother daughter dynamic with Rose, Elsa, and Loreda especially powerful. "Her story-which is the story of a time and land and the indomitable will of a people-is my story; two lives woven together, and like any good story, ours will begin and end and begin again." Eventually, Elsa becomes one with the downtrodden that society has overlooked and finds her voice in speaking out for them. Politics aside, touching scenes of kindness and sacrifice amidst suffering and loss had me tearing up. At times lyrical, at times gritty. A must-read.Reneeann

If you haven't read Magic Hour/Wild already then I strongly recommend this book – it has all the beautiful storytelling and imagery you'd expect from Kristin Hannah. I am pretty disappointed though as I purchased this book expecting a new story, however it seems this is a re release under a new title. It was published originally as Magic Hour so don't make the same mistake I did if you have already read Magic Hour.KateJ

Reviews:
True Colors by Kristin Hannah is a heartwrenching story about the 3 Grey sister's and their struggles. They lost their mother at a young age and are attempting to keep their family together. The book started out a little slow but 3 chapters in, I couldn't put it down! I had previously read Kristin's book "Between Sisters" and couldn't put it down either so I decided to give this one a try. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a heartwrenching story that really hits home.llc2007
I did not really like this book particularly…It felt like one of those that has high points and then the points that you find yourself dragging along through it telling yourself the whole time that you will be glad when this part is over. It is good for those who like to read about love lost and then found again…family growing pains…forgiveness. I do like the characters…I found that sometimes I could relate to some extent as well as see these characters in people I actually know. I also found myself wondering what I would do in some situations like these. I did catch myself talking back to the book a few times like any of the characters could hear me…lol.saenalais1129

You can’t go wrong with any of the books she writes. She’s amazing.Sue
While it got off to a slow start, parts of it remind me of The Nightingale.Though both were works of fiction they were obviously based on the same source of info when it came to the French helping and rescuing downed pilots though a secret network getting them across the Pyrenees to Spain. Also the horrors of Jews in France was also brought to light.judyn.
I loved this author soo much I bought more of her books, because I know theyll be goodrebeccamat-0
17. A Piece Of The World: A Novel [Ebook]
Product Details:
Instant new york times bestseller"a must-read for anyone who loves history and art.” –kristin hannahfrom the #1 new york times bestselling author of the smash bestseller orphan train, a stunning and atmospheric novel of friendship, passion, and art, inspired by andrew wyeth’s mysterious and iconic painting christina’s world. "later he told me that he’d been afraid to show me the painting. he thought i wouldn’t like the way he portrayed me: dragging myself across the field, fingers clutching dirt, my legs twisted behind. the arid moonscape of wheatgrass and timothy. that dilapidated house in the distance, looming up like a secret that won’t stay hidden." to christina olson, the entire world was her family’s remote farm in the small coastal town of cushing, maine. born in the home her family had lived in for generations, and increasingly incapacitated by illness, christina seemed destined for a small life. instead, for more than twenty years, she was host and inspiration for the artist andrew wyeth, and became the subject of one of the best known american paintings of the twentieth century. as she did in her beloved smash bestseller orphan train, christina baker kline interweaves fact and fiction in a powerful novel that illuminates a little-known part of america’s history. bringing into focus the flesh-and-blood woman behind the portrait, she vividly imagines the life of a woman with a complicated relationship to her family and her past, and a special bond with one of our greatest modern artists. told in evocative and lucid prose, a piece of the world is a story about the burdens and blessings of family history, and how artist and muse can come together to forge a new and timeless legacy.

A fascinating book about a real occurrence. Sheds light on the Wyeth painting and the back story of Wyeth's life.Karen
What began as a rather sad story about a painting, became a mind-numbing journey of a woman's descent into hopelessness. The author imagined the story after seeing a painting and told the reader what she thought the painting was about. Why so hopeless? I kept reading hoping to see the woman's journey take a positive turn but it never did. The novel depressed me. It was not necessary to invent such a dark tale about a disabled young girl who, through no fault of her own, became unable to find joy in life.antcrzy
