Reviews:
As a nearly 1/2 century old woman, I thought there was nothing I could read that would resemble something "new under the sun"…I am here to admit that I was wrong and now proudly own 5 of Neil Gaimans books and intend to read everything else he has ever written. When Stephen King said "we have a treasure in Neil Gaiman" he was making an understatement. For fantasy, fiction, adventure and mystery readers, he has it all in each and every book I have read! I am even looking forward to the comics and will be watching "Coraline" again (not knowing his hand in it until after the first book). I highly recommend that you buy NEW from a reputable book store so he gets his fair share! If I were healthy and not home bound due to a genetic ailment, I would search him out and beg an hour or ten of his time to get to know him. Brilliance never shone so bright as it does in the mind, body and share soul of another writer. If by chance Neil should ever read this review, I wish to say thank you. Thank you for helping me forget my physical pain and the sadness that my active life has become due to this illness because when I read your books, I become a part of them as if welcomed personally. Thank You Michelle McKim Valparaiso IN PS Please announce if you are ever in Chicago for a book signing, I promise just to say thank you and not hoard your time, I must wear a mask when in public so don't fear, I am not contageous! I love me some Neil Gaiman mind!mrdoug0726
I am a self confessed fan of Neil Gaimans work, however, I dont feel this is one of his better efforts. Anansi Boys seems somewhat flat. One of the dust jacket reviews draws a comparison to Douglas Adams, of Hitchhiker's fame, however, Anansi Boys doesn't seem to measure up. Where I actually liked the Hitchhiker's protagonist, Arthur Dent, I found myself ambivalent about the fate of Anansi Boys Fat Charlie. The characters were a bit too two-dimensional for my taste. True, I laughed through the first third of the book, but the remainder just didnt have the staying power of an Adams or Pratchett work. For a better example of what this novel could have been check out Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaimans Good Omens. Still, Im going to keep it in my collection. There were some interesting concepts that I still think about, and probably will long after I've forgotten the story. Sorry, Neil.egroegpm
Best book I ever read! Book was in excellent condition! Not very worn at all. Very pleased to add it to my collection!squidnee

Andreas J

Reviews:
I first saw the movie before I ever heard of the book, but I loved the animation of the movie so it was really fun to read and picture the animation at the same time. So I've been reading this to my 8 10 year olds and we all love it. It's spooky like my kids like (they love scary-ish stuff) but it's not to scary and not gory…..it's a perfect blend of whimsical and chilling.tiffany.r
This is another one of those books where I watched the film long before I ever knew it was a book. After finding out that it was a book, it instantly went on my to-read list. It has sat there for a really long while. Now that my son is three and currently obsessed with the stop motion film version of this book, I knew it was time to pick it up and read. I really enjoyed reading Coraline. Gaiman created a brilliantly creepy world that I was instantly sucked into. The book is much different than the film but in some ways very similar. Some characters and my favorite parts of the film don't exist in the book which was slightly disappointing to me. Which is why I give 4 stars instead of 5. Otherwise the imagery throughout the book is vivid. I love the concepts throughout. I think I would have enjoyed reading Coraline more if I had not seen the film a zillion times.krista.t
13. Norse Mythology [Book]

Product Details:
"introducing an instant classic–master storyteller neil gaiman presents a dazzling version of the great norse myths. neil gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales. in norse mythology, gaiman stays true to the myths in envisioning the major norse pantheon: odin, the highest of the high, wise, daring, and cunning; thor, odin's son, incredibly strong yet not the wisest of gods; and loki–son of a giant–blood brother to odin and a trickster and unsurpassable manipulator. gaiman fashions these primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds and delves into the exploits of deities, dwarfs, and giants. once, when thor's hammer is stolen, thor must disguise himself as a woman–difficult with his beard and huge appetite–to steal it back. more poignant is the tale in which the blood of kvasir–the most sagacious of gods–is turned into a mead that infuses drinkers with poetry. the work culminates in ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and rebirth of a new time and people. through gaiman's deft and witty prose emerge these gods with their fiercely competitive natures, their susceptibility to being duped and to duping others, and their tendency to let passion ignite their actions, making these long-ago myths breathe pungent life again."–publisher's description.
Reviews:
I've read the Elder Eddas and the Poetic Eddas in various translations and perhaps they are "closer" to the "original" versions or intent of the ancient Norse, but there are two areas that Neil Gaiman, because he is a storyteller in his own right, understands better than the translations: (1) character and (2) story arc. These gods have clear personalities that are revealed through dialogue and arched eyebrows and scowls, etc. They are funny and arrogant and foolish and a lot like people I know. Getting to know them makes their deaths during Ragnarok hurt. Mr. Gaiman is also clear that these myths have an overarching arc – the creation of the universe to its destruction/rebirth – and the fact that we know how the story ends, but the gods do not, places us in a peculiar relationship with them and Mr. Gaiman is unflinching in reminding us of how the story ends and how the decisions of the gods at various points lead us and them to the inevitable. Highly recommend this translation/retelling.Richard
Highly recommend this book, it I'd well written has a good sense of the mythos and is laid out in a way that anyone can get into. The book is split up into the sections of each different story giving you the opportunity to set it down and pick it up again if you are very busy.shaun.c
My only contact with Norse mythology to date had been the movie Thor. Chris Hemsworth was the big draw, I'm sure you understand. Tom Hiddleston didn't hurt either. The movie did peak my interest in the subject matter so I picked up Neil Gaiman's Norse Mythology. Imagine my surprise to discover that the movie only used the parts of the myths that suited their movie. Now I scream at the television screen "that's not how it happened!". It's been a double edged sword. The book is a must have for those interested in the myths that inspired a franchise. I still can't pronounce 80% of the words used in the book but I just make up my own pronouncement & continue on. It's been worth my time to find the myth behind the story.fdarlene491
14. Eternals By Neil Gaiman [Book]

Product Details:
During the 1970s, comics legend jack "king" kirby returned to the house of ideas with perhaps his biggest idea of all: the universe of the eternals! their creation was the result of kirby's ceaseless curiosity about the origin of man and his mythologies – but like many of the king's concepts, it was defi nitely ahead of its time. flash forward to 2006: superstar creators neil gaiman and john romita jr. have boldly taken on these concepts with a loving hand, in the process telling a fresh and crackling fun yarn full of mystery, suspense and majestic power – all with an eye on helping establish kirby's creations as a vital part of the marvel universe once and for all. against the backdrop of marvel's civil war, the eternals are awakening one by one from a strange, waking dream, at once coming to terms with the fact that they are far more than the normal people they have thought themselves to be. they find there is little time to commiserate about such things, however, as they are thrust into a life and death struggle that spans both time and space!
Reviews:

Reviews:
I purchased the book because an on line review had compared the author to Dougla Adams, who is among my favorite authors and unfortunately deceased. While I wouldn't agree with that comparison, Gaiman is an excellent author in his own right and has a distinctive style all his own. I enjoyed the book very much, and anyone who enjoys stories of adventure, parallel worlds, fairies, witches and warlocks should find it a great read. Mike.jbrainbo

Reviews:
The Graveyard Book is a must read for fantasy fiction fans and those who love a feel-good book. The beginning is 'hairs on the back of your neck scary' but once you get past the first couple of pages it is one of the most heart-warming stories you will ever read. You will meet interesting people and characters that shape a coming of age so profound that you too will want to live and be protected by the graveyard. The villains are very creepy that I would happily read a whole other novel just about them. This is one of my favorite books which I highly recommend.Alana's scrolls
