Reviews:
I read this book as a child and loved it! Some of the passages are still very clear in my mind decades later. This is a fictional account of a boy who runs away from home to live alone in the woods. But the depth of story and the detailed account of his various survival techniques have made many question whether the story was true. Now that I have children of my own, I had to buy the book for them. Its a great book and I highly recommend it!butterrum

Cervantes' epic finale to the storm runner trilogy, a tale of mystery, magic, and mayhem featuring gods from both maya and aztec mythology. action-packed and entertaining–kirkus reviews zane obispo has been looking forward to his training at the shaman institute for higher order magic, and not only because it means he'll be reunited with his best friend, brooks. anything would be better than how he has spent the last three months: searching for the remaining godborns with a nasty demon who can sniff them out (literally). but when zane tracks down the last kid on his list, he's in for a surprise: the one is actually a pair of twins, and they're trying to prevent a mysterious object from falling into the wrong hands. after a shocking betrayal, zane finds himself at shihom sooner than expected. even more shocking is the news that the maya gods have gone missing. the bat god, camazotz, and ixkik' (aka blood moon) have taken them out of commission . . . and the godborns are their next target. the only thing the villains need now? the object that the twins possess. zane knows the godborns aren't strong enough yet to stand up to zotz, ixkik', and their army. there might be a way to save the gods, but it involves locating a magical calendar that can see across time and space . . . not to mention traveling more than thirty years into the past. endorsed by rick riordan, author of percy jackson and the olympians, soon to be a series on disney+.

5. Holes By Louis Sachar (Paperback)

Product Details:
Stanley yelnats is under a curse. a curse that began with his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather and has since followed generations of yelnatses. now stanley has been unjustly sent to a boys' detention center, camp green lake, where the boys build character by spending all day, every day digging holes exactly five feet wide and five feet deep. there is no lake at camp green lake. but there are an awful lot of holes. it doesn't take long for stanley to realize there's more than character improvement going on at camp green lake. the boys are digging holes because the warden is looking for something. but what could be buried under a dried-up lake? stanley tries to dig up the truth in this inventive and darkly humorous tale of crime and punishment—and redemption. for ages 10 and up.
Reviews:
Holes is a book which keeps your attention through to the bitter end. It somehow turns what would be a boring detention camp in real life into a thrilling novel. It is set in a dried up lake in Texas. The main character's name is Stanley Yelnats. He is sent to the camp after a judge finds him guilty of stealing a pair of shoes. Each day at the camp he is required to dig a hole five feet wide and five feet deep. The story is developed with a series of flashbacks which tells the story of the dark past of the dried up lake. Holes is the type of book that you can't put down until you finish. With a good set of characters and a good story line to match, Holes is a book you must read.michael nibs
One of the most entertaining books I have read in a long time. Stanley was convicted of stealing a pair of used, smelly but valuable celebrity sneakers. He claimed they fell from the sky, but he was not believed and sent by the Court to "camp." The "camp" is for wayward boys and this is story is about Stanley's time at the camp. Stanley was from a poor family and his mother was pleased that finally her boy was going to get to go to "camp." What in the world is more entertaining than teen-aged boys….particularly wayward ones in "captivity?" You have to read the book to learn about the Holes. I loved the book. It was an easy and way too fast read.sisters49

A new york times bestseller – in the fifth and most recent book, "harry potter and the order of the phoenix," the last chapter, titled "the second war begins," started: "'in a brief statement friday night, minister of magic cornelius fudge confirmed that he-who-must-not-be-named has returned to this country and is active once more. Reviews:
No matter how much I disagree with the garbage opinions of notorious TERF JK Rowling, I can't deny that she's a great writer who came up with a truly riveting children's series. This book explores the genius of the Half-Blood Prince and goes on to reveal his identity and connection to Harry.
2007: Absolutely great book. The end left my absolutely sopping wet with tears, so you know it's good. The final book still has not come out, so I'm just dying to know what will happen. This book was seriously great. Horcruxes were a great idea.2018: So upsetting! I had to keep passing the book to my husband to read aloud to our son when I no longer could because I was so choked up. Great book, though I wish Dumbledore and Harry had more time for adventures. They finally go out together and then bam–every awful thing happens and the book ends. It feels a bit front-heavy.sara.d
I cannot believe that Snape went back to the dark side. Like oh my God I almost threw this book a few times over how angry it made me! I am just completely outraged that Snape killed Dumbledore like what was the purpose of that? I cannot wait for the next book where harry absolutely destroys voldemort and the death eaters.amanda.g
10. Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows [Book]

Product Details:
Reviews:
2018:Ha… well apparently I liked it more on the re-read. Still definitely not my favorite, and I still think log sections were boring, but a pretty satisfactory ending.2007: I thought this book was… boring. I swear nothing at all happened in the first 500 pages or so but Harry, Ron, and Hermione camping and arguing. Boring boring boring…Malfoy became a total non-character and said no more than 10 words in the entire book and you were left wondering when he became such a pansy. You were supposed to feel bad in the end when Lupin and Tonks died… but really, why? Lupin said about 10 words in this book just like Malfoy, and all it was was him being a loser and trying to run out on his new family. And then I'm supposed to feel bad about his death? One of the twins died, so you would think they'd have this big heart-wrenching scene with the other twin mourning, but no. Why was Hagrid being held by the death eaters at the very end? What were they going to do to him? Another complaint: Most of the fighting scenes were like this: "George was taking on Greyback. Luna and Ginny were attacking Bellatrix. Neville was holding off Yaxley." You couldn't picture any of it… there was no description at all.Let's talk about Snape. You get his story finally, but it's all as a memory in the pensieve. Like all the other characters in this book other than Harry, Ron, and Hermione, he said only five words. "Let me go get Potter…" That's it. So you see Snape for like two minutes and then he gets a very quick anticlimactic death and then you get his life story. Now I'm glad he's a good guy and all, but still… I wanted HIM to be in this book, not just his memories. Very lame. And on to Voldemort. All you get of him in this book is *voldemort flies around to X place* *voldemort kills X person* over and over. In the end, he was pretty unimpressive. The ending: The ending as a whole was pretty dumb, really. Harry sacrifices himself without actually sacrificing himself and he kills Voldemort without really killing Voldemort. Don't you think it was pretty lame that it was a WAR, and yet none of the kids ever used avada kedavra? If someone's trying to kill me and has killed my friends and family, I'd be doing more than the dang stunning charms. I know it's a kid's book and all, but still.sara.d
Harry has grown older, wiser since we last saw him. No longer the petulant and angst-ridden teen whose days were punctuated with dark moods and fights with those closest to him, he has matured beyond his years and accepts the impossible tasks before him decisively. The same holds true for Ron and Hermione and as the novel progresses, we see the relationships between the trio mature and triumph in the face of great difficulty. The writing is fantastic as usual. Rowling strikes a perfect balance in attacking her dark subject matter in a manner fitting for both the adult and younger reader. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows exceeds expectations and is, by a long shot, the best yet of the series, which has been entirely transfixing, far more so than fans of the movies might suppose. Those readers who have kept the faith throughout will no doubt continue on if they haven't already. Those who are looking for added encouragement to pick up these magical books and forge ahead, find it here. Harry Potter is a rare treasure and a cultural phenomenon in the midst of which we can feel fortunate to find ourselves.Jordan
The content of the book so far is fantastic, as would be expected. However I would strongly encourage you to buy a different printing of this book. The first 118 pages completely fell out of the book within the first day of my 10-year-old son reading it. He reads books all the time and this has never happened before, so I don’t believe it had anything to do with the user error. Harry potter books are a wonderful experience for the reader. Don’t let the cheap binding of this printing spoil it for you or your child.Wally
11. Shadow Of Night: A Novel [Book]

Product Details:
The #1 new york times-bestselling sequel to a discovery of witches, book two of the all souls trilogy–"as enchanting, engrossing, and impossible to put down as its predecessor" (miami herald). look for the hit tv series "a discovery of witches" airing sundays on amc and bbc america, and streaming on sundance now and shudder. j. k. rowling, stephenie meyer, anne rice–only a few writers capture the imagination the way that deborah harkness has with her new york times-bestselling all souls trilogy. a discovery of witches introduces reluctant witch diana bishop, vampire geneticist matthew clairmont, and the battle for a lost, enchanted manuscript known as ashmole 782. picking up from a discovery of witches' cliffhanger ending, shadow of night takes diana and matthew on a trip through time to elizabethan london, where they are plunged into a world of spies, magic, and a coterie of matthew's old friends, the school of night. as the search for ashmole 782 deepens and diana seeks out a witch to tutor her in magic, the net of matthew's past tightens around them, and they embark on a very different–and vastly more dangerous–journey.

Reviews:
4.75/5 It would have been a solid 5 if it wasn't so long. Darlington was my fav. Alex had her moments but she was still precious. Dawes was my spirit animal, her personality complimented well with Alex. Bardugo can really give characters personalities that are unique to them. The writing was beautiful. Leigh Bardugo constructed some disturbing and harrowing scenes that had me scared for a good moment. Alex's backstory was so sad and depressing but it was one of my favourite backstories in this book. The structure required a lot of work. I understand that there was a lot of world-building that she needed to do, however, I felt like the book would have been better if she revised and rearrange some parts, if not, remove unnecessary elements. The dual storylines would have been smoother and less confusing. The plot twist was not unexpected. I was suspish of that person already, it did feel anti-climatic though. But I have to say it was creative and made the villain more intriguing and dangerous. The cliffhanger though. Now I have to countdown the days and please don't let it be years.Elias
I picked up this book without much expectation, it was there, and it intrigued me, and so I got it. What I found was a story so thrilling and easy to become lost within I devoured it in one sitting. Its dark, very dark in places, and it touches on some sensitive topics, but they are handled in such a way that it comes off as, above all, a vividly realistic imagining of what young adults from privileged backgrounds would do if given access to powers beyond those of the average person. A great read, that I cannot recommend enough.ZACHARIAS

Reviews:
I like the fact that the curriculum is divided into ten workbooks. (Completing a thin workbook seems less daunting than opening up a thick textbook each day!) It also fits our homeschool lifestyle, so it's not such a load to take along on trips, etc. One "complaint" is that one of the workbooks lacked up-to-date information in order to answer a few questions, and we had to contact the company for that information. Would have been helpful if they noted that on their website, or just sent the updated information along with the set.Tammy

Reviews:
I bought this hoping to give an overview of several types of science for my 9th grade students. I bought this thinking that I would be there to support and direct. In fact, I have to spend hours every unit finding additional resources and videos to help explain the concepts. The text is incredibly dry and basically just lists facts. The amount of detail in each section is way too much for a high school class. I am seriously upset that I didn't continue with Apologia.Stacey

Reviews:
I like the literature curriculum from James Stobaugh because of the critical thinking and world view focus. It gives me the flexibility to design the coursework for the homeschooled students I tutor who are at various academic levels, and I use different techniques to do that. I like that the text is very academic, and I can pull a good vocabulary list from it as well as the literary selections. After using the 1st edition for 15yrs, this new edition includes graphic organizers that helps stimulate the critical thinking. It is an essay based curriculum. If you need a curriculum that is written out, this is NOT for you. You will need to already know how to teach these concepts, but it can be done if you do the research first.Sandra
