1. Refuge Recovery: A Buddhist Path To Recovering From Addiction [Book]

Product Details:
Bestselling author and renowned buddhist teacher noah levine adapts the buddha's four noble truths and eight fold path into a proven and systematic approach to recovery from alcohol and drug addiction—an indispensable alternative to the 12-step program.while many desperately need the help of the 12-step recovery program, the traditional aa model's focus on an external higher power can alienate people who don't connect with its religious tenets. refuge recovery is a systematic method based on buddhist principles, which integrates scientific, non-theistic, and psychological insight. viewing addiction as cravings in the mind and body, levine shows how a path of meditative awareness can alleviate those desires and ease suffering. refuge recovery includes daily meditation practices, written investigations that explore the causes and conditions of our addictions, and advice and inspiration for finding or creating a community to help you heal and awaken.practical yet compassionate, levine's successful refuge recovery system is designed for anyone interested in a non-theistic approach to recovery and requires no previous experience or knowledge of buddhism or meditation.

Reviews:
Allen is brilliant because this method does really work and he is right in saying it's not hard to do. I got the longer version, no illustrations and with the CD. Repetition and coming to the realization that alcohol does nothing for you except damage are a couple key points. I wish I had read this a long time ago. Read it and take it seriously and follow his instructions to the letter and it will work for you too..thndrbass
I've read this book in different language about 10years ago. It did work. I also recommend the smoking and the worrying books. They all worked for me. Highly recommended lecturesmarinc27

4. Dynamic Pathways To Recovery From Alcohol Use Disorder: Meaning And Methods [Book]
Product Details:
"the alcohol field has shifted from a monolithic abstinence-oriented view of alcohol problems, treatment approaches, and recovery pathways to a pluralistic view that recognizes the heterogeneous, multi-dimensional nature of these central features of alcohol use disorder (aud). positive change is a dynamic process that occurs over time and ranges from reduced alcohol use and associated problems to abstinence and improved functioning and well-being. although extant recovery definitions vary with respect to the emphasis placed on abstinence, consensus has emerged that successful recovery is broader than beneficial reductions in drinking practices and entails improvements in health, functioning, and well-being"–publisher marketing.

Product Details:
Craig beck is a well-regarded family man with two children, a beautiful home, and a successful media career. a director of several companies & at one time the trustee of a large children's charity. craig was a successful & functioning professional man in spite of a '2 bottles of wine a night' drinking habit. for 20 years he struggled with problem drinking, all the time refusing to label himself an alcoholic because he didn't believe he met the stereotypical image that the word portrayed. – he tried countless ways to cut down; attempting 'dry months, ' banning himself from drinking spirits, only drinking at the weekend & special occasions (and found that it is amazing how even the smallest of an event can suddenly become 'special'). all these 'willpower' based attempts to stop drinking failed (exactly as they were destined to do). slowly he discovered the truth about alcohol addiction & one by one all the lies he had previously believed started to fall apart. for the first time, he noticed that he genuinely didn't want to drink anymore. in this book, he will lead you through the same fantastic process. – the craig beck quit drinking method is unique: no need to declare yourself an alcoholic. a permanent cure, not a lifetime struggle. no group meetings or expensive rehab. – no humiliation, no pain and 100% no 'willpower' required. treats the source of the problem, not just the symptoms. what people are saying about 'alcohol lied to me': "i was so excited to find your method. i had never seen anything quite like it so of course i enthusiastically purchased it. i have to say i was blown away by the unique frankness. it really hits home in a very good way. it's as if a very caring, non-judgemental friend can see right through me in a way that can only be known by someone who's been through it all. i am incredibly grateful to have found your book and your logical genius.

This is a good basic book for those persons needing some guidance or a first step to stop drinking or drugging. I bought this book to give to a friend who drinks and is looking to quit but fearful of the process. The book discusses why people get addicted (without blame) and steps to take and who to contact for help. It allows the person to think through why he/she wants to quit and gives encouragement in the process. The book was published in 1996 but still is appropriate today. I would have liked a more current edition but it is still relevant today, almost 20 years later.caseysopencloset

Reviews:
The good news is that this is a thin edition of the "Big Book" so easier to carry around on a trip, etc. The bad news is only a certain amount of material – the original stories so not necessarily good for a Big Book Meeting. Be sure you check out the ISBN 9562912655 which will be this edition by BN publishing done in 2006 and taken from the original 1939 AA Services. Your larger softcover will have a different number and the hardcover is 978-1-893007-16-1calcurt
I like the ability to carry a soft covered copy of "The Big Book" of Alcoholics Anonymous because it is convenient and light. I love to study the book and, in this one, carry a marker to underline significant lines to accent what is meaningful on a specific day. This particular book was one that had no previous underlines in it, making it usable for my own highlights. Even being a copy of the third addition it has the same first 164 pages of all three other printings, which are very helpful in learning and practicing recovery principles.drytyme
I now have 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Editions. The book is in great shape. It is just what I was hoping for. Glad to have it in my collection.buyandsell3045
19. When Aa Doesn't Work For You: Rational Steps To Quitting Alcohol [Book]
Product Details:
For the first time, the founder of rational-emotive therapy applies it to recovery from problem drinking. this remarkable self-help book tells how to apply rational-emotive therapy (ret) to the problem of alcoholism, overcome emotional disturbances, and bring about a profound philosophical change that will resolve addictive tendencies and often change lives.
Reviews:
An interesting alternative view of addiction in general. This is a good, easy, even "fun", read – with plenty of personal stories. It's focused on the subject of alcohol, but is careful to explain that the substance isn't the problem. What this has to offer over most 12-steps type programs is "no God required". An odd aspect of this method of "rational emotive therapy" is the hint of possibly becoming a "normal" drinker once root cause is addressed…russ-w
