1. No Longer Human [Book]
Product Details:
Mine has been a life of much shame. i can't even guess myself what it must be to live the life of a human being.portraying himself as a failure, the protagonist of osamu dazai's no longer human narrates a seemingly normal life even while he feels himself incapable of understanding human beings. his attempts to reconcile himself to the world around him begin in early childhood, continue through high school, where he becomes a "clown" to mask his alienation, and eventually lead to a failed suicide attempt as an adult. without sentimentality, he records the casual cruelties of life and its fleeting moments of human connection and tenderness. still one of the ten bestselling books in japan, no longer human is an important and unforgettable modern classic: "the struggle of the individual to fit into a normalizing society remains just as relevant today as it was at the time of writing." Maas's sexy, richly imagined series continues with the journey of feyre's fiery sister, nesta. nesta archeron has always been prickly-proud, swift to anger, and slow to forgive. and ever since being forced into the cauldron and becoming high fae against her will, she's struggled to find a place for herself within the strange, deadly world she inhabits. worse, she can't seem to move past the horrors of the war with hybern and all she lost in it.the one person who ignites her temper more than any other is cassian, the battle-scarred warrior whose position in rhysand and feyre's night court keeps him constantly in nesta's orbit. but her temper isn't the only thing cassian ignites. the fire between them is undeniable, and only burns hotter as they are forced into close quarters with each other. meanwhile, the treacherous human queens who returned to the continent during the last war have forged a dangerous new alliance, threatening the fragile peace that has settled over the realms. and the key to halting them might very well rely on cassian and nesta facing their haunting pasts.against the sweeping backdrop of a world seared by war and plagued with uncertainty, nesta and cassian battle monsters from within and without as they search for acceptance-and healing-in each other's arms.
Reviews:
All in all I enjoyed ACOSF the same if not more than the other books in the rest of the ACOTAR series. It's an emotional roller coaster and found myself relating to Nesta more than Feyre (which hit in the feels, definitely cried more than once) and the /smut/, Lordy the smut. My partner doesn't read but found himself reading the smut scene over and over again, quite amusing. *spoilers from here down* I really love the relationship between Cas and Nesta; with Feyre and Rhys it was almost picture perfect. But I found the friction between Cas and Nesta was more "interesting" and found myself drawn into the relatability of the characters insecurities. The book does have its "downfalls though" which is why I only rated it 4 star. I felt like the plot was only really starting a third of the way in the book and was constantly finding myself torn between "Yes!! Girl power!! Feminism!!" And "omg it's another 'the power of friendship will save the world' bs". But the thing that frustrated me the most is the plot development scenes (gaining the Death Trove) seemed to either just fall into their laps or was a 10 page read, I found myself forgetting the bad guys because I'm to distracted trying to figure out the length of Cassian's wingspan, and every time the bad guys appear in the book I'm like "oh yeah.. that's right you exist". The end of the book definitely felt like a "oh poop I've almost reached my word limit, I need to wrap this up" which is disappointing because the mountain arch was my favourite part of the book (asides from the smut) Tdlr: good book, chicks before dicks, 20 page segges scene, 10 pages of plot story plot developmentSatcha
I read it and loved it! I've been a fan of fantasy and romance books since I was in high school, but *clears throat* I'm certainly not in high school in anymore; this was hot and heavy to say the least. I'm a big Nessian shipper. The sexual tension between Nesta and Cassian was undeniable. Side note, Cassian can like…get it. Anywho, what I loved most was seeing Nesta's growth, how she worked through her trauma, and became stronger in the end. My only dislike, was that Maas never really justified why Nesta treated Feyre the way she did and the inner circle. In my opinion, Nesta was such a b**ch sometimes for no reason. It would've been nice to see her explore that. #fantasy #romance #fiction #books #readjulia.b
I had been anticipating this book for years because I felt I could relate to Nesta's emotions. Of course not her trauma, but her sense of worthlessness. I was curious to see how SJM would "redeem" Nesta and I was worried she wouldn't do it right but I was proven wrong. Maas beautifully showed us Nesta's journey to self-love and those who relate to Nesta, it felt like it was also our journey too. I love how Maas didn't redeem Nesta by excusing her past actions and instead Nesta was held accountable for her mistakes and it just felt like she is real. Many books tend to write "perfect" characters whose wrong actions are justified and excused so it was a breath of fresh air that this was not the case. I know a lot of people did not like the "Feyre baby" plot point and although I wasn't the biggest fan of it either, I loved, LOVED when Nesta saved Feyre and her baby's lives. It was the sweet moment between Nesta and Feyre that I had been waiting for, for so long and the fact that the first person Nesta has ever said 'I love you' to is Feyre, just showed her self growth. I shed a lot of tears because Maas perfectly put the emotions and thoughts that are hard to word and express, in to this book. It was very inspiring and healing. However, while I loved Nesta's healing journey, I have to say that the plot in terms of movement and action wasn't amazing. Of course I didn't expect another war so soon but at times it felt like nothing was happening. So for the actual plot, I take 1 star off. Also, I was excited to see Nesta and Cassian's relationship develop and I suppose it did but not in the way I hoped for. I know there is a lot of sexual chemistry between them but it felt like their relationship was purely sexual rather than emotional. I know it's a NA book but it doesn't have to mean there is an intimate scene every 5 pages. I wanted to see more of Nesta and Cassian bonding together. Oh well, can't have it all.Fay

Originally I bought this for my son. I am a fan of Matthew McConaughey, but I don’t usually buy celebrity books. I wanted a book that was interesting for a young man with life wisdom. Before I started wrapping it I began reading it and if Christmas wasn’t the next day I would’ve sat down and finished it. I’m now going to buy a copy for myself!famor
5. Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir Of A Family And Culture In Crisis [Book]
Product Details:
#1 new york times bestseller, named by the times as one of "6 books to help understand trump's win" and soon to be a major-motion picture directed by ron howard "you will not read a more important book about america this year."—the economist "a riveting book."—the wall street journal"essential reading."—david brooks, new york timeshillbilly elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis—that of white working-class americans. the disintegration of this group, a process that has been slowly occurring now for more than forty years, has been reported with growing frequency and alarm, but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.the vance family story begins hopefully in postwar america. d.’s grandparents were “dirt poor and in love,” and moved north from kentucky’s appalachia region to ohio in the hopes of escaping the dreadful poverty around them. they raised a middle-class family, and eventually one of their grandchildren would graduate from yale law school, a conventional marker of success in achieving generational upward mobility. with piercing honesty, vance shows how he himself still carries around the demons of his chaotic family history.a deeply moving memoir, with its share of humor and vividly colorful figures, hillbilly elegy is the story of how upward mobility really feels. and it is an urgent and troubling meditation on the loss of the american dream for a large segment of this country.
Reviews:
In all areas of the USA there are "hillbilly" people even if they don't go by that title. Ignorance is not limited to the southern part of our nation, nor is drug use, illegitimate children or low income jobs. We all have issues of some kind no matter where we live. Yes, he pulled himself up by his boot straps to make something of himself, but there are people like that all over the country.spo5158-6fasuqitzw
This movie, hands down, is the best movie I have seen yet! This movie really can make you feel what it’s like to have a loved one succumbed in addiction, or even show you how another views you in addiction. I am a recovering addict, I have never had something touch me and show me the reasons I stayed sober, furthermore I could see how I truly acted towards others. This movie is truly an inspiration!!!!!katlin.w
This is an excellent memoir of life in a disadvantaged community in rust-belt USA and how the author escapes from it and climbs the social ladder to achieve a successful career. However, whilst he achieved the American dream most people in the community did not and they still live in poverty surrounded by unemployment and drugs. The book sheds some light on why many people became disillusioned with the Washington elites and voted for Donald Trump in 2016. Whether he can solve their problems is a question unanswered.John

Reviews:
Description states book has normal wear which is expected but the book and cover clearly have water damage. The sleeve is almost completely ruined. The pages of the book are yellow with some water damage on a few pages. The binding on the book is very banged up. This is definitely worth what I paid but had the description been ACURATE i probably would not have bought it.ninamd11
I purchased this to read before the series started. I was drawn into the story immediately and couldn't put it down, and cannot wait to firstly watch the series and secondly read more books by this author! The characters were interesting and intriguing, hit the mark with primary school mum-life with humour, candour and a tiny bit of tenderness. I enjoyed the format of story telling interspersed with comments from the characters' investigation interviews, leading to the 'big thing' end of the story We all know at least one of the characters that made me laugh, gasp in horror and feel genuine heartbreak.Airlie

Emily Henry has done it again. This book made me laugh so hard I woke up the neighbor's dog at 6am (sweet revenge). I laughed, I cried and I didn't want it to end while dying to know how it ended. If you like Rom Com then this should be your first summer read this year. I kept sending screen shots of pages to my friends. It is a witty read with a romance between a characters that would get dumped in a Hallmark romance. Just go read it!Kristen

I bought this book when I was in Buenos Aires, and maybe my great experience there makes my opinion biased. It's about the importance of books and the evolution of technology and the way these two can coexist and I'd never read anything like it. Definitely a breath of fresh air.camila.a

The revolutionary literary vision that sowed the seeds of objectivism, ayn rand's groundbreaking philosophy, and brought her immediate worldwide acclaim.this modern classic is the story of intransigent young architect howard roark, whose integrity was as unyielding as granite…of dominique francon, the exquisitely beautiful woman who loved roark passionately, but married his worst enemy…and of the fanatic denunciation unleashed by an enraged society against a great creator. as fresh today as it was then, rand’s provocative novel presents one of the most challenging ideas in all of fiction—that man’s ego is the fountainhead of human progress…“ a writer of great power. she has a subtle and ingenious mind and the capacity of writing brilliantly, beautifully, bitterly… this is the only novel of ideas written by an american woman that i can recall.”—the new york times

15. The Age Of Light: A Novel [Book]
Product Details:
Told in the alternating timelines of 1930s paris and the battlefields of wwii, this "rapturous and razor sharp" debut novel brings to light the life of lee miller, a little known but fearlessly original artist whose legacy remains largely unexplored (paula mcclain, new york times bestselling author of the paris wife). "i'd rather take a photograph than be one," lee miller declares after she arrives in paris in 1929, where she soon catches the eye of the famous surrealist man ray. though he wants to use her only as a model, lee convinces him to take her on as his assistant and teach her everything he knows. as they work together in the darkroom, their personal and professional lives become intimately entwined, changing the course of lee's life forever.lee's journey of self-discovery takes took her from the cabarets of bohemian paris to the battlefields of war-torn europe during wwii, from inventing radical new photography techniques to documenting the liberation of the concentration camps as one of the first female war correspondents. through it all, lee must grapple with the question of whether it's possible to stay true to herself while also fulfilling her artistic ambition–and what she will have to sacrifice to do so.

Gripping story about an amazing person1llewellyn123
As a true story an amazing read, very well writtensussp.uk.5zhdyoy3z1
I LOVED reading this book. I loved the Bohemian lifestyle in Paris at the time. I was amazed how Lee was a lost soul trying to experience herself in Paris alone . Her loneliness led her to various experiences that eventually connected her to the Art world. She seemed to fall into it naturally. I loved her relationship to Man (a famous photographer); and her insecurity with regard to her own creativity. I enjoyed following her internal struggles while growing as a person as well as an artist. Fascinating also was her personal development to prove her independence, which led her to finally leave Man. Thirty years later, she questions the worth of her action for having left Man. He had stolen from her credit she had earned, because he claimed that she was his possession. NOW, meeting him all these years later (she dying of cancer and he in a wheelchair) at an exhibit of his work that she had put together, she asks herself whether leaving him- what seemed so important and so clear to her then- was worth it after all. This is a good read for anyone who struggles with dependence and interdependence issues in relationships. There is much food for thought.bushrrothstei-0
