good practice problemsmanup116
This book has functioned amazingly well as a supplement to a course. It helps drill home the computational aspects of calculus, and provides great practice. The answers at the back don't only give you the right answer, but also the correct steps to take in order to reach that point. Any self-studying students can also pick up this book, or any non-students that may be interested in picking up some calculus know-how. Everything is worded clearly, and very little prior knowledge of calculus is needed in order to utilize this resource to its' fullest extent.calculus guy
2. Essential Calculus [Book]

Product Details:
This book is for instructors who think that most calculus textbooks are too long. in writing the book, james stewart asked himself: what is essential for a three-semester calculus course for scientists and engineers? essential calculus, second edition, offers a concise approach to teaching calculus that focuses on major concepts, and supports those concepts with precise definitions, patient explanations, and carefully graded problems. the book is only 900 pages–two-thirds the size of stewart’s other calculus texts, and yet it contains almost all of the same topics. despite the more compact size, the book has a modern flavor, covering technology and incorporating material to promote conceptual understanding, though not as prominently as in stewart’s other books. essential calculus features the same attention to detail, eye for innovation, and meticulous accuracy that have made stewart’s textbooks the best-selling calculus texts in the world.important notice: media content referenced within the product description or the product text may not be available in the ebook version.

3. Calculus Volume 1 By Tom M Apostol
Product Details:
Now available in paperback! an introduction to the calculus, with an excellent balance between theory and technique. integration is treated before differentiation–this is a departure from most modern texts, but it is historically correct, and it is the best way to establish the true connection between the integral and the derivative. proofs of all the important theorems are given, generally preceded by geometric or intuitive discussion. this second edition introduces the mean-value theorems and their applications earlier in the text, incorporates a treatment of linear algebra, and contains many new and easier exercises. as in the first edition, an interesting historical introduction precedes each important new concept.

The author is one of the true greats …. but the book itself was poorly printed on cheap paper and smelled bad !miri3437_tq068wp

Do not buy this book. Do not waste your money on this book. It complicates Calculus severely! Bought it and ended up throwing it out, definitely not for dummies. If you want to learn Pre-Calculus the right way, I recommend buying the Cambridge Year 10 Advance Maths, Australian Curriculum and you will learn to it properly. Once you have mastered quadratic equations, trig, functions and logs purchase the Cambridge Year 11 Advanced Maths and begin Calculus. This is the easiest and best way!Ahmed
Excellent book, just what I wanted to help. me feel confident to take a Calculus course online. I am disabled in body but not in mind and the level of tuition in this book is mathematically friendly.willimicha_6aqr9x

Reviews:
Each time I looked at Saxon math I found it repulsive. It just seemed all over the place. How could anyone learn like that I would think. Well, I have now learned through experience that Saxon is perfect for many students. First, it is rather thorough especially matched with DIVE. One of my children just needed loads of practice and frequent review for topics to stick. Some kids hate that, but it was finally peace for one of mine. Saxon isn't easier or thin in concepts, but it is a different approach. Don't be like me and be a math snob. I wish I had switched my son years ago. Better late than never ,though. The Calculus book will take 1.5 semesters to complete likely. Time everything to start by Jan of 11th grade if you would like to finish the book and take the CLEP exam.Christina
We have always been pleased with the Saxon approach to teaching math. Calculus is no exception. It’s thorough and comprehensive. I highly recommend it!User
I cannot stress to not purchase this curriculum. It's absolutely awful for teaching. They do not show you how to solve the problems in the practice questions, and barely explain the concepts in the lessons. For example the derivatives lesson did not teach the power rule. It did not explain how to use limits merely thrust them upon you in practice lessons in later chapters. The tests either ask you to solve problems that were never discussed in the book or are laughable easy. In certain problems while trying to back track to figure out how to solve it you would realize that the only way to get a solution was for a number to magically become a zero. The book is riddled with errors and only frustrates not teaches. If your looking for a better calc book for 11-12 graders I'd recommend online resources, anything except this book.Riley

13. Make: Calculus: Build Models To Learn, Visualize, And Explore [Book]

Product Details:
When isaac newton developed calculus in the 1600s, he was trying to tie together math and physics in an intuitive, geometrical way. but over time math and physics teaching became heavily weighted toward algebra, and less toward geometrical problem solving. however, many practicing mathematicians and physicists will get their intuition geometrically first and do the algebra later. make:calculus imagines how newton might have used 3d printed models, construction toys, programming, craft materials, and an arduino or two to teach calculus concepts in an intuitive way. the book uses as little reliance on algebra as possible while still retaining enough to allow comparison with a traditional curriculum. this book is not a traditional calculus i textbook. rather, it will take the reader on a tour of key concepts in calculus that lend themselves to hands-on projects. this book also defines terms and common symbols for them so that self-learners can learn more on their own.

16. Calculus From The Ground Up [Book]

Product Details:
Calculus is one of humanity's greatest achievements. with calculus, you can analyze the infinitely large, the infinitely small, and everything in-between. calculus gives you the tools to develop your own mathematics, your own formulas, and, most importantly, your own imagination. calculus is not just a subject. it is an invitation to think differently about the way that the world works. – calculus has a reputation for being a dry, dreary, difficult subject. however, the problem generally lies with tedious, lifeless books that present calculus with all the vigor of a wilted salad. calculus was not discovered as a series of dull proofs about the real number line. it was discovered by curious people who took the time to look at the world in a new way. – calculus from the ground up invites readers to not just read about mathematics but to become active participants–making numbers and symbols the servants of their minds as they grow their imaginations in ways they didn't think possible. – calculus from the ground up isn't your typical mathematics book. it is a guidebook for students to learn not only the bare subject of calculus, but also to discover how its artistry impacts other areas of life. calculus from the ground up includes sections on how to solve impossible problems, how to break problems into manageable sizes, how to develop new mathematical formulas, and even how to live a more ethical life, all through lessons gained from calculus. – about the author – jonathan bartlett is an author, teacher, researcher, and computer programmer. he is passionate about teaching mathematics not only for how it helps students to solve number problems, but for how it trains them to think about problems in new ways. jonathan has spent his years training the intuitions and imaginations of readers, students, developers, engineers, and even theologians. his books have been used in classrooms ranging all the way from princeton university to local homeschool co-ops.

We highly recommend this curriculum! I originally bought it to replace another curriculum (LOF) primarily for its complete solution manual and clear notation. Structured to fit a 30 week schedule, the author provides about 20 problems per chapter so there's little busy work. As a family of engineers, we needed a complete self-teaching Calculus program that was accessible for our non-STEM focused senior. This program has not disappointed. Thank you for carrying it!Ann
I just love McRuffy Math! I have used it with both of my sons and it is a wonderful gentle introduction to math! Very hands-on (I HIGHLY recommend you get the K-3 math manipulative kit sold here!) and fun! Lessons are quick and concepts are practiced several times sometimes in different ways With my first son I made the mistake of only using the K level of McRuffy Math and then we started the dreaded "math curriculum shuffle" With my second son who is now in K I plan on using McRuffy Math all the way to whatever grade level it goes up to Wonderful economical worth every single penny! My little son loves his math!
17. Calculus For Dummies [Book]

Product Details:
The mere thought of having to take a required calculus course is enough to make legions of students break out in a cold sweat. others who have no intention of ever studying the subject have this notion that calculus is impossibly difficult unless you happen to be a direct descendant of einstein. well, the good news is that you can master calculus. it's not nearly as tough as its mystique would lead you to think. much of calculus is really just very advanced algebra, geometry, and trig. it builds upon and is a logical extension of those subjects. if you can do algebra, geometry, and trig, you can do calculus. calculus for dummies is intended for three groups of readers: students taking their first calculus course – if you're enrolled in a calculus course and you find your textbook less than crystal clear, this is the book for you. it covers the most important topics in the first year of calculus: differentiation, integration, and infinite series. students who need to brush up on their calculus to prepare for other studies – if you've had elementary calculus, but it's been a couple of years and you want to review the concepts to prepare for, say, some graduate program, calculus for dummies will give you a thorough, no-nonsense refresher course. adults of all ages who'd like a good introduction to the subject – non-student readers will find the book's exposition clear and accessible. calculus for dummies takes calculus out of the ivory tower and brings it down to earth. this is a user-friendly math book. whenever possible, the author explains the calculus concepts by showing you connections between the calculus ideas and easier ideas from algebra and geometry. then, you'll see how the calculus concepts work in concrete examples. all explanations are in plain english, not math-speak. calculus for dummies covers the following topics and more: real-world examples of calculus the two big ideas of calculus: differentiation and integration why calculus works pre-algebra and algebra review common functions and their graphs limits and continuity integration and approximating area sequences and series don't buy the misconception. sure calculus is difficult – but it's manageable, doable. you made it through algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. well, calculus just picks up where they leave off – it's simply the next step in a logical progression.

The key to understanding Calculus, or anythng for that matter, is to look at it from as many different perspectives as possible. This book is great because it provides the reader a different point of view than they may have seen before. Textbooks usually make for extremely dry reading. Calculus for Dummies isn't necessarily exciting, but it's written in a conversational tone using easy-to-understand language. It also provides a lot of examples, which are very helpful. Don't expect it to be easy. A good understanding of Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry is needed – NEEDED – to get through this book. If you don't have a good foundation in those three subjects, you might want to review them before getting into Calculus for Dummies. The book definitely makes Calculus easier to understand. But it's still not easy.stealth_loverboy
Basic step by step for calculus beginners! I ordered because I was skeptical about calculus. Our state requires us to take AP this year, so I was skeptical about this year. I am using this book as a reference to my calculus class, to get a better understanding of the subject.2012chris1031

Reviews:

Reviews:
The book was required in my calculus class, and while it is the only calculus book I have used to date, I found many good things about the product. The text was easy to read and understand, with sufficient proofs that demonstrated the viability of the writer. The material has proven to also have a sufficient degree of difficulty that has allowed me to do well in my Calculus class. Dislikes: The only bad thing I have to say about this text is that the "Review chapter" Is fairly irrelevant to the material being discussed in the first several chapters.zerschneiden
at first i though that the international edition was going to be different, but when i got the book all the way from Micronesia, i noticed it was the same as the U.S. edition just 1/4 of the original price. i would recommend to buy this book if you do not have the money to afford the U.S. edition.yucaman
I bought this book as it seems to be a popular college text for Calculus I and II. I don't understand why. I rate this as below average because: Stewart's presentation is a bit erratic. Some material is presented at a fairly rigorous level while other is presented as "here it is". I find that confusion results when less experienced students use this book.I find the treatment of volume particularly weak.stats_son
