Reviews:
Wow. This book made me laugh, cry, scream, and tear up with happiness all at once. That is so rare in a book, and Laurie Frankel captures it all in this book. It was so engaging, even when I didn't have time to read, I was thinking about the book. Incredibly written and so very important to have such a book for people to read. Loved every minute.Rach C
Nothing I say could do this novel justice: it is the first book I've read in years that I want to hand out on street corners and force all my friends and family and neighbors to read IMMEDIATELY. It is profound and hilarious and uplifting and thought-provoking and page-turning. I fell in love with the entire family: parents, five kids, and grandma. The writing made me laugh out loud and stay up late for just one more chapter. The story made me think about society and gender in a way I never had before, impressing upon me how absurdly preoccupied we are with what happens to be in other peoples' pants (or skirts). There are fairy tales and horror stories, parenting tips and transformations. Read it!!!!Becca
This book is so honest and real and deals with being different in today's society. It's so raw and definitely a book I couldn't put down. I would read it again. And again.Kadybug
3. The Unexpected Legacy Of Divorce: A 25 Year Landmark Study [Book]

Product Details:
Finally in paperback, the new york times bestseller that has fundamentally changed the way children of divorce see themselves as adults–updated with a new preface by the author.divorce is at once a widespread reality and a painful decision, so it is no surprise that this landmark study of its long-term effects should both spark debate and find a large audience.in this compelling, thought-provoking book, judith wallerstein explains that, while children do learn to cope with divorce, it in fact takes its greatest toll in adulthood, when the sons and daughters of divorced parents embark on romantic relationships of their own. wallerstein sensitively illustrates how children of divorce often feel that their relationships are doomed, seek to avoid conflict, and fear commitment. failure in their loving relationships often seems to them preordained, even when things are going smoothly. as wallerstein checks in on the adults she first encountered as youngsters more than twenty-five years ago, she finds that their experiences mesh with those of the millions of other children of divorce, who will find themselves on every page.with more than 100,000 copies in print, the unexpected legacy of divorce spent three weeks on the new york times, san francisco chronicle, and denver post bestseller lists. the book was also featured on two episodes of oprah as well as on the front cover of time and the new york times book review.
Reviews:
Caring psychologist, Judith Wallerstein, maintained relationships over 25 years with 100+ children of divorce whom she counseled since childhood. She documents the effects of divorce on children, long after their parents' divorce is done. She also tells of those who were able to go on and have stable, loving marriages and emotional health. A tour de force.jean44023
Are these results really unexpected? Do parents really think that children are not affected by divorce? Or do they justify that they are better off then they would have been if their parents stayed in an unhappy/unhealthy marriage? Or does any of it matter? Will this book keep parents together? Maybe, but probably not. Every adult is shaped by their childhood, but I wholeheartedly disagree with this author's stance that children are forever victims of their childhood and their parent's divorce. There comes a point in everyone's life, usually before the age of 18, that their life begins to be shaped by their own choices and not what their parents did to them. The studies are very limited and therefore the results and conclusions are flawed and incomplete. The interviews of the children she references are well documented but she left out so many groups of children of divorce and studied only cases where the children were devastated by their parents divorce. Even that can be argued though, because they were devastated more by the way their parents had failed to protect them after the divorce. Parents parented differently after the divorce and it is unusually more inattentive parenting then before. (because the parent is rebuilding their own life, they often have to work more or go back to school, or are devastated emotionally and don't have anything left to give to the children) I must note here that most of these children took similar paths as children raised in single parent homes where no divorce had ever occurred or they had not been involved with both parents. This leads me to believe that it is not necessarily a result of the divorce but of the parenting, or lack there of. Children with involved, attentive parents (even single parents) are going to do better in life than those without. The author fails to interview children who have 2, equally involved, cooperative, supportive parents who remain in close geographical distance to each other and raise the children `together' until they are grown. She also fails to interview children who were relieved and freed by their parents divorce. Not that either of these situations is the ideal but they sure weren't given any consideration in the `Unexpected Legacy…25 year landmark study.' The author was quick to conclude that every bump in the road of life was due the divorce of their parents. There is nothing to say that the lives of these children would be dramatically different had their parents stayed together. If you are looking to blame something or someone else for your problems then this book will give you that reason if you hadn't already thought of it yourself. Children of all backgrounds face a verity of different challenges. This could be poverty, the death of a parent, the deployment of a parent, mental or physical illness of a parent, obesity, alcoholism or drug addictions, unemployment, depression, imprisonment, incompetence, and the list goes on. If you chose to be impaired by your childhood circumstances and not rise above the difficulty then that is where you will stay. All in all, the book was easy to read and contained useful information. It kept my interest even though it lacked many other perspectives. It was written with good intent and delivered a strong message that divorce damages children. It makes divorce appear an unattractive alternative (as it should be in most cases) but did not condemn it in all cases either. At no point did this book make rs.mill.sales
Wallerstien's book was very enlightening and showed an effect of divorce on the child. The books conclusion is very different from from most experts veiws on the effects of divorce, and whe the case she makes is very compelling it is not void of caveats. Her research on the subjuect is groundbreaking, as she utilizes a longitudnal study to track her subjects. While he work is not neccesarily fool proof and subjects lend themselves torward disfunction,it certainly should be read by anyone with an interest in family dynamics or the effects of divorce as wallerstien work is groundbreaking and she is an expert in this field.gdelia89

10. I Am Nujood, Age 10 And Divorced: A Memoir [Book]

Product Details:
Recently honored alongside hillary clinton and condoleezza rice as one of glamour magazine’s women of the year, nujood now tells her full story for the first time. “forced by her father to marry a man three times her age, young nujood ali was sent away from her parents and beloved sisters and made to live with her husband and his family in an isolated village in rural yemen. there she suffered daily from physical and emotional abuse by her mother-in-law and nightly at the rough hands of her spouse. flouting his oath to wait to have sexual relations with nujood until she was no longer a child, he took her virginity on their wedding night. she was only ten years old. unable to endure the pain and distress any longer, nujood fled—not for home, but to the courthouse of the capital, paying for a taxi ride with a few precious coins of bread money. when a renowned yemeni lawyer heard about the young victim, she took on nujood’s case and fought the archaic system in a country where almost half the girls are married while still under the legal age. since their unprecedented victory in april 2008, nujood’s courageous defiance of both yemeni customs and her own family has attracted a storm of international attention. her story even incited change in yemen and other middle eastern countries, where underage marriage laws are being increasingly enforced and other child brides have been granted divorces. as she guides us from the magical, fragrant streets of the old city of sana’a to the cement-block slums and rural villages of this ancient land, her unflinching look at an injustice suffered by all too many girls around the world is at once shocking, inspiring, and utterly unforgettable." — provided by publisher.

"𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒑 𝒔𝒘𝒊𝒎𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒏𝒐𝒘, 𝑳𝒊𝒍𝒚. 𝑾𝒆 𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒓𝒆." I'm gonna be honest, I thought Colleen Hoover's books would never be for me. However, the amount of hype It Ends With Us receives made me want to meet the infamous Atlas and Lily. I knew very little about it, I thought I'd hate it… I was very wrong. Colleen Hoover wrote this heavy, intense story so flawlessly, I simply could not put it down. The strength this book carries is unimaginable. It is a story with messages woven within the simplistic style of writing that I don't believe I'll ever forget. Also, Lily Bloom is an unforgettable character, and not just because her name happens to be 'Lily Bloom'. Her strength is incredibly admirable. Aaaaaand, I'm actually wanting to read more CoHo books now – hopefully I'll come across Verity or Ugly Love.Lena
Read this over the weekend because I had Covid and laid in bed all week. Absolutely glad I read it in a weekend, because I would been very upset if I had invested anymore time into it. Truly disappointing read, the story feels force and unnatural. It's not all terrible I rather enjoyed the about the letter to Ellen regarding her interactions with Atlas those feel natural. Everything seems like an exmachina to keep the story going or rather create a story. Don't see how this author could be on NY times best-selling list, really don't see how this books has so much hype. It feels done like I've somehow already read this book, not very original. Which is a shame because I think if the author was aiming for this to be a book about DV she missed the boat. It feels more like a book about lost and found romance than a young woman overcoming and ending the circle of abuse so many women find themselves inpregnanttargetlady
This book is truly a masterpiece! Colleen knows how to grab the readers attention and keep it there!! It has been sometime now since I’ve had such a good read as I have found in this book set of two with the starting book, “it ends with us,” AS I AM FINDING IT QUITE HARD TO KEEP MY HANDS OFF IT!! I SO DO LOOOOVE THIS BOOK!! IM already immediately roaring for Lily, then it’s Ryle…OMG-THEN ATLAS!!?? WHAT THE….. Yes! This book is AWESOME!! A purely find myself so wrapped around the writing of this author portraying the characters out, every drop of it, I find myself actually purposefully trying to not read the book TOO QUICKLY!!! I knooow THATS CRAZY!??? However, DONT JUDGE ME..LOL…I’m an AVID reader, my friend/s! I’ve read since I was 8! NOVELS!! **Anyways! I look forward to getting through this book and beginning “it begins with us, “which of course we all know is the sequel to the book I’m reading now! Miss Colleen Hoover is quite a talented writer, I knew that she had talent, however, she has held on to my attention and probably will never be able to let go of it!!!!!!!!!! Awesome BOOK PICK!!! -ShannonShannon

Reviews:
Okay, so this novel did not excite me as much as her debut ("Bergdorf Blondes") but Plum Sykes still had me hooked with this one! We meet Sylvie Mortimer at the outset of the novel as she is forced to attend her honeymoon all alone because of her handsome hubby's busy schedule. While basking in the sun she encounters a group of cheerful divorcees who are just as happily celebrating a "Divorcemoon". Sylvie becomes fast friends with the leader of the pack, beautiful, uber-rich Lauren Blount and is strangely thrilled at the zeal with which this woman chooses to live her life. Sylvie is quickly soaked in all the juices from the divorced lot and soon her own marriage is threatened when a "Husband Stealer" sets her sights on Sylvie's man! In true Sykes fashion..there are countless plot twists…but I followed along quite happily around every turn! The fairy tale ending…though expected, was definately surprising! as the divorcees are no longer divorced and Sylvie is happier than she ever thought she could be. I am glad I ploughed through the rather plodding start, because the ENTIRE book was rather worth it! I am definately a fan of Plum Sykes and would not miss out on any of her consequent novels!misslou2425
I actually enjoy Plum Sykes superficial novels- they are meant to be funny, not entirely true. This novel shows the funnier side of rich divorcees. These women simply wont sit and cry for months and years when they become divorced, instead, they spend their riches going on divorce honeymoons to tropical places and buying super expensive fur coats and jewelry. This book is laugh out loud funny! I highly recommend it. After all, there is a love story within it!!ellegatto
ganska så mysig och halvputtrig bok, men känns lite överdriven i vissa områden 😉 enkel och lättläst och jag blev ganska engagerad i mitten för hur det skulle gå:)Sara E
