1. Stolen Focus: Why You Can't Pay Attention–And How To Think Deeply Again [Book]

Product Details:
New york times bestseller – our ability to pay attention is collapsing. from the new york times bestselling author of chasing the scream and lost connections comes a groundbreaking examination of why this is happening—and how to get our attention back.“ the book the world needs in order to win the war on distraction.”—adam grant, author of think again “read this book to save your mind.”—susan cain, author of quiet shortlisted for the porchlight business book award – one of the best books of the year: the wall street journal, financial timesin the united states, teenagers can focus on one task for only sixty-five seconds at a time, and office workers average only three minutes. like so many of us, johann hari was finding that constantly switching from device to device and tab to tab was a diminishing and depressing way to live. he tried all sorts of self-help solutions—even abandoning his phone for three months—but nothing seemed to work. the truth is even more disturbing: our focus has been stolen by powerful external forces that have left us uniquely vulnerable to corporations determined to raid our attention for profit. hari found that there are twelve deep causes of this crisis, from the decline of mind-wandering to rising pollution, all of which have robbed some of our attention. in stolen focus, he introduces readers to silicon valley dissidents who learned to hack human attention, and veterinarians who diagnose dogs with adhd. he explores a favela in rio de janeiro where everyone lost their attention in a particularly surreal way, and an office in new zealand that discovered a remarkable technique to restore workers’ productivity. stolen focus will transform the debate about attention and finally show us how to get it back.
Reviews:
An incisive look at our ever diminishing capacity to focus our attention and a well researched analysis of why this is so. An easy and informative read. We all need to read this book and recognize and face this critical challenge.Frankie
Some people lead their game. Hari is one of them and in his investigation into social media and their addictive devices certainly opened my eyes. It will take the regulators twenty years to catch up but Hari points out the exploitation of young and old minds and some of the solutions society will need. If we are not too late. If you care at all about your children's mental well being, read it.Mike
This book put on paper a lot of things I'd already assumed and felt, particularly about the impact of technology, but felt it was brought low by some cringeworthy moralising at times by Hari whose own sordid history in journalism should have held him back from throwing stones. It threatened to kill my immersion, as I'd struggled to put the book down until that point, but I'm glad I read it through.Rogan

7. Deep Work: Rules For Focused Success In A Distracted World [Book]
Product Details:
Deep work : hardback : grand central publishing : 9781455586691 : 1455586692 : 05 jan 2016 : deep work is the ability to focus without distraction on a cognitively demanding task. it's a skill that allows you to quickly master complicated information and produce better results in less time. in this book, newport flips the narrative on impact in a connected age. instead of arguing distraction is bad, he instead celebrates the power of its opposite. dividing this book into two parts, he first makes the case that in almost any profession, cultivating a deep work ethic will produce massive benefits. he then presents a rigorous training regimen, presented as a series of four rules, for transforming your mind and habits to support this skill.
Reviews:
The concepts explained in this book are so relevant and logical. It is such a challenge to get out of the 'shallow work' we are faced with throughout our days and into the 'deep' but this book spells out how and shows you the benefits that will flow. I read this book in record time and started implementing the concepts immediately.Darren in the Deep
Life changing !!! I'm off social media, retraining my brain to concentrate, workplace productivity has gone through the roof and i am enjoying my work a whole lot more. I gave a copy to my boss hoping she'll encourage deep work practices in our team.bonsaimatt42
Another book recommended to me by a friend. Being a researcher by trade, Deep Work reminds me of the importance of my role – the ability o do sustained and concentrative work. This book goes through the reasons why most of us are transforming our work lives from deep to shallow work. As Cal Newport states – Shallow Work stops us from getting fired; Deep Work gets us promoted. A great book for anyone wondering why they aren't achieving their desired outputs and how to find more value to get to the next desired levelAngela
8. The Brain Fog Fix: Reclaim Your Focus, Memory, And Joy In Just 3 Weeks [Book]

Product Details:
A new epidemic is sweeping the country. some people call it “adhd,” “scatter brain,” or “brain fog.” and some people simply say they “just don't feel like themselves”—and haven't for a long time.people are thinking and feeling worse than ever. why? because our brains are not getting the support they need to produce the essential brain chemicals that keep us energized, calm, focused, and inspired. the brain fog fix is a three-week program designed to help you naturally restore three of your brain's most crucial chemicals: serotonin, dopamine, and cortisol. rebalancing these three brain chemicals will, in turn, enable the rest of your brain's chemistry to reach optimal levels. you will find yourself thinking more clearly, remembering more accurately, learning more quickly, and unleashing the floodgates of your creativity. you will also find yourself feeling more optimistic, calm, energized, connected, and inspired.the good news is that this is easier than you think. instead of trying to ambitiously overhaul one aspect of your life entirely with some difficult-to-maintain resolution, begin by making small and achievable changes in many different areas of your life.“ if i've learned one thing from the thousands of people i've treated, it's that you have to take the whole person into account if you want to think and feel better.”—dr.

Reviews:
This devotional is set up for you to read one devotional each week and then to memorize scriptures that are listed at the end of each devotional. After four devotionals, there is something called "Taking Inventory". This is to help you figure out how you are doing with growth. I have heard of doing word studies before and that is one of the things I thought of when I heard about this devotional. I loved the different words that Cleere chose to use for this book and that she puts scriptures that relate to that word at the end of each devotional. I also love that she puts focus tips in there to further help with application of each word to our life and walk with the Lord. The other thing that makes this devotional unique is that Cleere is doing a podcast to go along with it called "Let's be Cleere". I highly recommend this book and the podcast. And I myself am looking forward to further digging into the devotional and listening to the future postcast episodes (I have listened to the introduction episode). Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book in order to give an honest review.Thoughts of a Reader

Reviews:
Great book!! I've listened to it on Audible three times now and loved it so much that I bought the hard copy as well just to highlight and keep for immediate reference. Some of the knowledge in this book, I have applied to my life and it has immediately changed it! He talks about setting up good systems for habits which is honestly a mind-blowing concept! It's so simple but yet I've never thought about it before. Everyone wants to immediately change their habits, myself included, but never have any systems in place to achieve this. This book shows you how to succeed at this. So highly recommended! I've never been a person who had a favourite book but now I am and this is it!Atomic Amy
