It was very hard to put into words, just exactly how I've been feeling since the loss of my mother. This books hits the nail on the head. Not only does it label what I've been feeling, it guides me on how to work through it. I recommend this book to any adult who may have lost a parent! Blessings.memawtofive
Thought provoking, but not very helpful. Had a few fresh ideas about the stages of grief. I did like the format the author used, it was easy to follow and then pick up later. I would recommend it as a resource, but I imagine there are other titles available that would be better in different situations.jenrose85

Perfect for those who are grieving!Karen H.
I only read an excerpt of this book but was not impressed. In the analogy of the blacksmith, she describes blacksmithing all wrong. Then she goes on to say that the “Devine Blacksmith” heats and pounds out things in our life that need to change, like tears. Since when are tears wrong? That mentality has caused so much damage over the years and it needs to change.FireMed
Very encouraging and inspirationalMerla D.

Reviews:
I enjoy the book very much! It is very helpful and I am also enjoying my GriefShare meeting! I intend to attend the next one that will start early January! I know it is the same that I have now, but I know that I probably missed something the first time around and will probably take the "course" 3 or 4 times for sure. Thank you for having this! God Bless each of youBarbara P.
Sadly, I was not very happy with this book. First, the back (soft paper) book flap had a large wrinkle in it upon arrival. Second, the paper overall was thin and low quality. Lastly, I sincerely hope the content brings comfort and encouragement to my friend who just lost her husband unexpectedly, but I was personally disappointed in the quality of the devotions themselves.Anita M.

My wife's father died a few years ago and she bought a copy of this book in a local book store. Although it is geared toward him, she found parts of it help her with her grief. When my father died in November she gave me her book and I have found it very helpful. Just a outstanding book that can help men deal with the lose of thier father and maybe even deal with some unresolved issues. With Christmas approaching I purchased this copy of the book as a gift for my brother to help him with the grief that I know he must be going through. 10. Father Loss: Daughters Discuss Life, Love, And Why Losing A Dad Means So Much [Book]
Product Details:
"i found this book very meaningful. – as elyce wakerman found in the scores of interviews she conducted, the loss of a father— through death, divorce, or abandonment—is the event that shapes a girl’s life and all her future relationships. “in my fantasy,” one woman commented, “he remains the perfect, all-giving man”—a difficult role for any other man to fill. based partly on the author’s experience, partly on her in-depth interviews, and partly on a questionnaire she developed with psychologist holly barrett to which almost six hundred women responded, father loss provides the clearest portrait yet of a very special group of women. chapters include:a subject i can speak of: “my father died when i was three”a subject of research: the father-daughter relationship – a parody of incest: women who never knew their fathers – a face not even a father could love: daughters of paternal suicide – my mother—the widow, the divorcée—myself: mother as head of the household – make room for the new daddy: stepfathers – it’s the child that makes the woman: self-image and others – a match made in heaven…or elsewhere: attitudes toward marriage and the family – women with wounds that will not heal – and more! as a group, they express their insecurities (“sometimes i wonder if i’ll ever be able to love a man totally . . . because that would mean i didn’t love my father anymore.” —leslie). yet individually, many have become outstanding achievers, including eleanor roosevelt (“he dominated my life as long as he lived and was the love of my life for years after he died.”), helen gurney brown (“people in business, my bosses, i look to them all as fathers.”), barbara streisand, gloria steinem, geraldine ferraro and many others. – a bestseller when it was first published twenty-five years ago and now updated and revised, father loss gives information and insight to fatherless daughters, to widows and divorcees with daughters, and to every father who needs to understand the vital role he plays in his daughter’s life—as the first man she ever loves.

I bought this book to help a friend deal with the death of a parent that happened many years ago. She still cannot cope with it. I have tried to advise her from the texts. The information is helpful and in clear language. Adult children are always overlooked when a parent dies, since society tends to think of only little children bereavement. It is good that adults are remembered and I praise the book for that.halsall2573
