Reviews:
Both my mother and I are book addicts and devoured the first book that we've read by Frederik Backman. I immediately ordered 2 others by him. Ove is an "outsider" in terms of modern-day society, or as it's described, a curmudgeon. As I am a bit the same, I found this book particularly delightful as Ove is forced out of his inner life due to circumstances. It is a commentary on modern society. Those of us who prefer a solitary life, to read or spend time alone, are viewed as outsiders, yet Ove learns that helping others changes his life and theirs. The humor is a surprising bonus! A MUST READ and you will be through it in 3 readings and order his others from BAM.Susan
I liked this book but I didn’t love it, I’ve read much better novels. I read about 1/3 of it and then stopped as I couldn’t really get into it as I found it pretty boring. After a year I decided to read the remainder of it since I had spent the money on purchasing it. It all came together and I found it heartwarming. It’s not a book that would be on my top 10 to recommend but I wouldn’t discourage someone not to read it.essie.p
What a brilliant book , well written brilliant translation and funny. Observations are excellent and really funny. The topic is interesting as is the living in spite of everything. It touched parts of me deeply and is incredible to make me laugh and cry in the same book. Really really great read followed by watching the Swedish sun titled film! Love itnashhy

Epic fantasy set in a universe where human nature is similar to our own, but supernatural powers exist. Brandon Sanderson is a master storyteller and The Way of Kings begins his 10 volume saga (hes currently writing the 5th). But even if you read it as a stand alone, The Way of Kings will not disappoint.librariegrrl
I love this book. I read the second book straight away, I am totally hooked. I love the characters, the way the story jumps from past to present and how the focus moves between the characters in the book. I am now also inspired to read the other books by Brandon as I have learnt that they all tie together somehow, sort of like the Marvel Universe. The only book I would recommend as highly as this book is 'The Name of the Wind' by Patrick Rothfuss. Peace love and light, Adamadamtehwizard

Reviews:
I bought this book to generate conversations and fun between me and my fiancé. We live in 2 different areas of the country so when we get together it is full of quality time. The book has scratch off sections that do not work. You end up scratching of the entire information. Very dissatisfied and disappointed. During this time of COVID 19 it is disappointing that this book doesn’t deliver what it promised.– Dirk Hansondirk.h
They didn't have the friends edition listed to review but thats the one I've used. Although I did get the couples edition with it. Not sure if illnusenthat one but the friends one is fun we just did our first adventure that was something different. I can't wait to see what the others are like. The mystery of it makes it exciting. I do wish these books were a little cheaper but it is fun and probably worth it since it will last awhile. The camera option is ridiculously expensive though considering that nothing is included with it. I didnt get that off the site but instead got basically the same instant camera on Amazon for probably 80$ cheaper and it included everything along with a neat travel case.sarah.l
7. The Pillars Of The Earth: A Novel [Book]

Product Details:
#1 new york times bestselleroprah's book club selectionthe “extraordinary . . . monumental masterpiece” (booklist) that changed the course of ken follett’s already phenomenal career—and begins where its prequel, the evening and the morning, ended.“ follett risks all and comes out a clear winner,” extolled publishers weekly on the release of the pillars of the earth. a departure for the bestselling thriller writer, the historical epic stunned readers and critics alike with its ambitious scope and gripping humanity. today, it stands as a testament to follett’s unassailable command of the written word and to his universal appeal. the pillars of the earth tells the story of philip, prior of kingsbridge, a devout and resourceful monk driven to build the greatest gothic cathedral the world has known . . . of tom, the mason who becomes his architect—a man divided in his soul . . . of the beautiful, elusive lady aliena, haunted by a secret shame . . . and of a struggle between good and evil that will turn church against state and brother against brother. a spellbinding epic tale of ambition, anarchy, and absolute power set against the sprawling medieval canvas of twelfth-century england, this is ken follett’s historical masterpiece.
Reviews:
Ken Follett is a master story teller; and "The Pillars of the Earth" is a fascinating insight into the medieval world. This is carried on in the sequel. This book my wife bought me for our 18th wedding anniversary; although I'd read it some years previously. The accuracy of his knowledge of the medieval world is wonderfully demonstrated in "The Pillars . ." A great book, which I would recommend to any lover of historical fiction.nobby0183
I read this many years ago. Though fiction, much if that mentioned in the book was factual – characters, language, behavior and more in and around the era of 12th century Britain. It took me back to a time in history that I had rarely investigated before, The main characters were engaging and elicited my emotions and caring for them. This was a powerful novel that would require me to write something nearly as long, in order to do it justice. The best I can, or want, to do is to say, "Go buy it." You won't be disappointed. PS I loved this book so much, but had lost the original copy (it was damaged), so was ordering this just so that I would always have a copy to read and reference. Unfortunately, the supplier had run out, so could not fill my order. I will look for it again.chapinfo1
This book is my favorite ever. I keep buying them as gifts for others The condition of the book was excellent, but if it was just good I would be happy. Great gifts. If you like history, although its not a history book, it goes back to the knights and Masons. I hated when I was done reading it. I wanted more. Just a hint about the second book written a few years later… I totally didn't connect with anything, big disappointment.eves_world_2005

Reviews:
I just got done rereading this book for Halloween and it’s so amazing! Such a good read from cover to cover! There are a lot more details and back stories in the book and it does answer a lot of questions I had about the movie. If you are a fan of the movie or a horror aficionado this is a great book for you.robin.h
Such a fantastic read. The kind of book you can’t put down… what else are you to expect when picking up a SK novel? The man is a genius. As for the movie…. it was infuriating. If you’re a book snob like me and can’t stand when movies don’t stick to the script, do yourself a favor and don’t watch this one.alexandria.w
Quite simply put, The Shining is the best horror story I have ever read. It scared the hell out of me. Over a period of time, I have noticed certain standard "motifs" in horror stories. One of these I call "The Lost Child". Such stories will typically involve a child, who can see what the silly grownups cannot see (or, even if they do see, don't acknowledge because it goes against reason and logic): and who fights, however high the odds stacked against him/ her are. Danny Torrance is such a boy. Danny can read minds. He can see the frightening thoughts inside his Dad's and Mom's heads ("DIVORCE", "SUICIDE") but is powerless to do anything about it. Danny does not know that he has a gift; he takes it as a matter of course, until Dick Halloran of the Overlook Hotel tells him that he "shines on". Jack Torrance, Danny's Dad, reformed alcoholic and struggling writer, is trying to put his life back together after a tragedy. He gets what he sees as the ideal chance when he lands the job of caretaker of the Overlook Hotel for the winter. In the snowed-in hotel with only his son and wife Wendy, Jack assumes that he will get enough quality time to be with his family, patch up old quarrels, and write that breakout novel. But the Overlook has other plans. The hotel, which feeds on and grows in strength from the evils committed on its premises, wants Danny-permanently-to join its crew of ghostly inhabitants. And to do that, it needs to get to Jack… The novel slowly grows in horror, starting with mild unease, moving up through sweaty palms and dry mouth, to pure, gut-wrenching terror. Jack's slow slide into madness is paralleled by the growth in power of the hotel's dark miasma, and Danny's extraordinary capabilities. We are on a roller-coaster ride into darkness. The world of grownups is often frighteningly incomprehensible to young children: these fears seldom die as we grow up, but remain dormant in our psyche. There are very few of us who does not have a ghost in our childhood somewhere. It is when the writer invokes this ghost that story gets to us. King does a masterly job of awakening that child, and putting him/ her in the midst of childhood terrors through the alter ego of Danny Torrance, lost in the cavernous corridors of the Overlook. There are a lot of passages which literally creeped me out in this novel (the topiary animals, the fire hose in the corridor, the woman in the bathroom to name a few). As King has said elsewhere, the monster behind the door is more frightening than the monster slavering at you: this book is full of such monsters. More importantly, you will keep on remembering your own boogeymen while you are reading; and long after you finish, you will feel the urge to look behind you. Horror stories are a form of catharsis. As King says, the writer takes you to the body covered under the sheet: you feel it, and are frightened. At the same time, you are relieved that the body is not you.Rene

Great book!! I've listened to it on Audible three times now and loved it so much that I bought the hard copy as well just to highlight and keep for immediate reference. Some of the knowledge in this book, I have applied to my life and it has immediately changed it! He talks about setting up good systems for habits which is honestly a mind-blowing concept! It's so simple but yet I've never thought about it before. Everyone wants to immediately change their habits, myself included, but never have any systems in place to achieve this. This book shows you how to succeed at this. So highly recommended! I've never been a person who had a favourite book but now I am and this is it!Atomic Amy

Reviews:
If you have thought about buying this book from Tiktok or any other social platform in which it has blown up, then do it. I was skeptical at first due to some mixed reviews, but this was an eye-opener of a read. This book does its job in making you wish there was more after you've read the final page, but alas that would defeat the point. This is definitely for those who are wanting something easy, digestible, and emotional. Must-read!artemisia
I haven’t read any books in a while, but decided to buy this book on a whim after seeing it on tiktok. I had high expectations, and the book met those expectations right at the mark. I loved the different character perspectives; they were short, while still offering a nice change of pace. The book definitely got my waterworks going, and while the title hints at death, I was holding out hope the entire time. Overall, wonderful writing, and a captivating story that I’ll remember for a long time.chloe.l
It was alright. I had high hopes for this book because I've heard so much about it. I didn't really care for the many different characters point of view and stories. There was a lot of different characters to keep up with. I liked the idea of a story about people finding out when they are going to die and just being free on their "end-day" but I wish it was more spectacular. I wish the characters got to achieve more in the book. I liked the two main characters but I just wish there was more to them. This story does make you think and makes you appreciate the life you are living. It made me appreciate not having the ability to know when my last day is because it's almost too much to think about. Again, this book was alright. I think my expectations were too high but I was a little let down.
11. The Splendid And The Vile: A Saga Of Churchill, Family, And Defiance During The Blitz [Book]

Product Details:
#1 new york times bestseller – the author of the devil in the white city and dead wake delivers an intimate chronicle of winston churchill and london during the blitz—an inspiring portrait of courage and leadership in a time of unprecedented crisis “one of [erik larson’s] best books yet . . . perfectly timed for the moment.”—time – “a bravura performance by one of america’s greatest storytellers.”—npr named one of the best books of the year by the new york times book review – time – vogue – npr – the washington post – chicago tribune – the globe & mail – fortune – bloomberg – new york post – the new york public library – kirkus reviews – libraryreads – popmatterson winston churchill’s first day as prime minister, adolf hitler invaded holland and belgium. poland and czechoslovakia had already fallen, and the dunkirk evacuation was just two weeks away. for the next twelve months, hitler would wage a relentless bombing campaign, killing 45,000 britons. it was up to churchill to hold his country together and persuade president franklin roosevelt that britain was a worthy ally—and willing to fight to the end. in the splendid and the vile, erik larson shows, in cinematic detail, how churchill taught the british people “the art of being fearless.” it is a story of political brinkmanship, but it’s also an intimate domestic drama, set against the backdrop of churchill’s prime-ministerial country home, chequers; his wartime retreat, ditchley, where he and his entourage go when the moon is brightest and the bombing threat is highest; and of course 10 downing street in london. drawing on diaries, original archival documents, and once-secret intelligence reports—some released only recently—larson provides a new lens on london’s darkest year through the day-to-day experience of churchill and his family: his wife, clementine; their youngest daughter, mary, who chafes against her parents’ wartime protectiveness; their son, randolph, and his beautiful, unhappy wife, pamela; pamela’s illicit lover, a dashing american emissary; and the advisers in churchill’s “secret circle,” to whom he turns in the hardest moments. the splendid and the vile takes readers out of today’s political dysfunction and back to a time of true leadership, when, in the face of unrelenting horror, churchill’s eloquence, courage, and perseverance bound a country, and a family, together.
Reviews:
Like most of Larson's work, "The Splendid and the Vile" is well researched and engaging. Churchill and his era during the bombing of London are an interesting study, and Lardon's source material depicts an extraordinary figure of history during challenging times. The courage of the British people and their captivating leader are depicted in a narrative interesting to anyone.dowstewart
Erik Larson’s newest book, The Splendid and the Vile, is a wonderful look inside Churchill’s first year as Prime Minister during WW II. Prior to this book I had a general idea of Churchill through documentaries and videos of speeches he made. This book however makes you feel like you get to know the Churchill’s on a more personal level. You can’t help but care and love both Churchill as well as those closest to him. Larson is able to take a lot of information and make it interesting and readable. I love the short chapters as well, they made me feel like I was reading one of Churchill’s minutes. I would absolutely recommend not only this book, but all of Larson’s books.alyssa.k

I have not yet read this novel, so this review is not about the quality of the novel. Instead, this novel is about the state I had to so unfortunately buy this book. I had to buy this book with two stickers on the cover. One was a Netflix sticker stating that this novel was made into a Netflix original. This sticker was placed in the bottom left corner. In the other hand, the second sticker is stuck in the dead center of the authors name. It was not even a good sticker. It was an annoying one saying 20% off. I dislike this for several reasons. One of which, I do not appreciate my books being covered up with useless stickers that tell me the same thing the cashier tell me. I am only writing this as a review on the hook because I could not find an email for this multimillion dollar company. Thank you for reading this and I am letting you know that I will not be spending my money on books from Target.Chloe
This is such a feel good book and is adorable. I read this book recently and only because it was becoming a Netflix movie and I saw it was based on a book so I had to read the book first. This book is very well-written and unique to any storyline I've seen. I couldn't put this book down and as soon as I finished the book I HAD to immediately get the second and third book. I made the order and now I just have to wait, I'm in love with the storyline so much I will be immediately reading them as soon as they are delivered. This is such a feel good book and It was great that the main character was Korean-American which isn't often seen in young adult books. I am extremely invested in the story and I have to finish the series to know how it ends.Taylah
Original fan. Read it when it first came out. I enjoyed all 3 books in the series very much. Some may not enjoy the main character as much as I did. Shes very innocent and almost childlike. She reminds me of myself sometimes. The story is original and cute. If you can be open minded about Lara Jeans personality, believing girls can still think and act like this (we can) then I think youll love the books as much as me!CaseyB

I have read previous books by this author. This a curious view of the world, if we live beyond our 89-90 years. The world 500 years ago or today is suspicious and fearful of people who are different. On another level someone who has lived so long has themselves experienced different times.Rosiep
I just finished THE MIDNIGHT LIBRARY by Matt Haig. I really enjoyed both reading and listening to the book and audio versions. This is a modern twist on Its a wonderful life. Well written and smart. I felt for the main character and the roller coaster ride she went on. A great read.kathryn.c

Love the book, loved the story even more! I would have given it 5 stars, but it had a long smudge stain on one of the pages going from the main characters face down to a dialogue bubble. Other than that, it was great. The story kept me on the edge of seat and my heart was pounding loudly with suspense of what was to come.Lulu
A thriller and very mature novel that will leave you reading more, definitely going to be purchasing all the volumes.Brook
