1. Quiet: The Power Of Introverts In A World That Can't Stop Talking [Book]
Product Details:
Demonstrates how introverted people are misunderstood and undervalued in modern culture, charting the rise of extrovert ideology while sharing anecdotal examples of how to use introvert talents to adapt to various situations.
Reviews:
I was disappointed in the book. I do have to say it is well written and engaging. But I cant help but think about how one sided it is and the extrapolation of factual data to prop up thoughts based on religion and anecdotal stories. Susan discusses many concepts that are fascinating about how the brain works but no explanation on their connection to being an introvert. Just more weak links and her own thoughts of pigeon holing someone's traits and attributes. Although I have only given two stars, I would give it a read to get thinking about different people in the world.BEBEBBOOKS
Quiet is an interesting book and has some interesting science about how people concentrate and work but I find it somewhat odd. The author is very attached to the idea of Rosa Parks as an introvert and brings this up multiple times in a way I don't find particularly palatable. She also uses an Einstein quote about working alone that really stuck out to me because if you read anything about Einstein and Milvera it's that all their friends spoke of them constantly working on their theories together. It feel like it was going to answer a question, but then it didn't come to a specific conclusion except "we need both types of people" and for some reason that felt like a let down. I found all the "are you an introvert/extravert" questionnaires funny because I answered yes on both and never got a clear answer to what that meant. A lot of the statements made too sounded like they had links to ADHD and autism but it was never mentioned which I found odd. Still it was interesting read & worth it if you're interesting in this kind of science.R
This gives an excellent insight into the personality type of a huge proportion of the population, their thought patterns, motivations, ways of responding and behaving that extroverts just do not understand. Everyone these days is supposed to be extrovert now and so many people are having to pretend to be extroverts in order to be accepted and progress at work. This was not the case until recent times and it is exhausting for those who are introverts to have to conform to this. Being quiet is normal for all these introverts but they are told that is not desirable. When assessments of children and adults take place being 'quiet' is considered a negative quality and the strong focus and thought processes of introverts are overlooked. Instead professionals and others tell introverts to speak up and basically turn themselves into an extrovert types, which is not possible. Consequently, their strengths and attributes, their input and ideas are often wasted. This is an excellent book for everyone to read – it explains to extroverts as well as introverts themselves, why they hate open plan offices and group meetings and need space as well as the company of others. All those working with children and young people in schools and colleges, and employing adults in workplaces should readthis. An extrovert parent with an introvert child should read this.bluebird444*

Reviews:
an entertaining and light look at introversion with a positive self accepting spin in an overtly extrovert praising world.
I am enjoying discovering the differences between what is thought to be introversion and what it really is.bestbet99
What a fabulous book. so easy to read in nice short chapters. I totally related to the stories about enjoying company up to a point, but tuning out when it gets too noisy or frantic. My Mum recently said that even as a child I preferred one very good friend at a time, where one of my sisters likes a mob. A must-read for anyone who is accused of being a "loner".

Reviews:
I received a free digital copy of this book for being a part of the launch team after I had already preordered it. Wow! As an introvert who can disguise herself as an extrovert (very few people in my life actually know I am an introvert), I felt like much of what Jamie said was taken from my own thoughts and feelings. She didn't make introversion sound like a disability. But for the first time, I understood my strengths and weaknesses as an introvert. She gives practical, hands on ideas for introvert moms to apply for self-care not self-improvement. I loved this book and plan on making it a yearly read to remind myself that God gave my children an introverted mom on purpose.godlyrose
Jamie. You have completely wrecked me. I just finished your book, and I'm sitting here crying. AGAIN. I have lost track of how many times you made me cry. I need the Introverted Moms Manifesto on my wall where I can read it every. single. hour. I have been in such a dark place for such a very long time. And you have breathed life and hope into me again in a way therapy and counseling never have, and no amount of self help books have, and… sometimes even reading my Bible has not helped, because all I seem to be able to hear some days is the voices of people who expect me to be something I'm not. And even God's voice seems to take on their words/interpretation, and I feel hurt and confused and…….defective. So SO defective. THANK YOU for writing this book. For listening to God's prompting. For speaking life and hope into other moms. Yes, I read as much as most introverts do. But just so you know… your book is now among my top favorites of all time. Definitely the best book on motherhood. You have helped me realize a number of ways I am allowing other people's opinions to control me and the way I am "performing" as a wife and mother and… person. You have given me practical and realistic tools to use in a crazy busy chaotic season of life with littles to help me stay sane, and to help me be a better (more relaxed and happy) mother. I just might end up being okay, after all.ThePiratesWife
Disclosure: I received an advance copy of this book as a member of the launch team, but I also purchased one on my own. Whether you're an introvert or you know one (you do), this book shows you how you can care for yourself and others in practical ways with insight from a mom who has been there. I found myself relating to paragraphs in this book over and over. With both humor and practical advice, Jamie shows us introverted moms that we are not alone, and that you can still thrive as both an introvert and a mom.Katy

Reviews:
This book is a great resource for both introverts and extroverts, for introverts to understand themselves and for extroverts to understand them. While empirically sound, this info is both excessible to the lay person and educated alike. McHugh has provided a valuable resource that should foster respect and bring unity to the church. His theology and sociology is well-balanced. I especially enjoyed the first chapter and although brief, I agree that in The West, we do indeed live in an extrovert's world. This actually has its challenges for both sides. McHugh expounds upon both the contributions and the potential of introverts in the church. Introverts will find this book healing, while extroverts will either find it insightful or no big deal at all (the latter would be a sad occurrence indeed). I also found the implications of introverts in leadership and evangelism practical and helpful. In the end, the way that we have been created is a gift to the church. We need to appreciate our differences and respect various personality types. The only danger that this book would present would be for it to go ignored, which would be tragic indeed.pasturederelict
Little Rock, Arkansas was the Sunday stop on the last leg of our cross-country trip. I don't recall the denomination of the church we visited, but I sure remember its personality: the two-handed handshakes, the over-the-top meet-n-greet . . . and the dear woman who sat next to me and kept touching my arm whenever the pastor made a good point. That church leaned hard toward an extroverted culture. For this introvert with the plexiglass space bubble, I honestly couldn't get out of that building fast enough. While that church is certainly not typical by any means (thank heavens!), it demonstrates with broad brush strokes the extroverted culture that prevails in the church. Adam S. McHugh looks at the church through the lens of an introvert. He encourages introverted believers to celebrate their temperament and, rather than being defined by what they are NOT (outgoing, people-loving, gregarious, etc.) to lean into the strengths and gifts that come with their personality. Rather than equating spirituality with sociability and portraying evangelism as a back-slapping presentation of The Four Spiritual Laws, Introverts in the Church argues for a biblical vision of worship that puts God on display through relationships that encourage both introverts and extroverts to go deep into their inner worlds while at the same time moving outward in sacrificial love. Explaining the Introverted Brain Research shows that introverts and extroverts function differently because they process life differently. Introverts derive their energy from solitude while extroverts are energized by interaction and external stimuli. In addition, introverts filter that external stimuli through a finer grid, becoming overwhelmed more quickly than extroverts do with their more flexibly filtering brains. Introverts tend to prefer depth over breadth in relationships, in their interests, and in self-examination. Scientifically and theologically … continue reading at Living Our Days
Being an introvert who struggles with being involved in activities, I found this book to be very helpful in further understanding myself and steps I can take to help myself in situations. I would recommend church and group leaders read this book.scpa7665-uvdoz8g5v0
13. Quiet Girl In A Noisy World: An Introvert's Story [Book]

Product Details:
Sweet, funny, and quietly poignant, debbie tung's comics reveal the ups and downs of coming of age as an introvert. this illustrated gift book of short comics illuminates author debbie tung's experience as an introvert in an extrovert's world. presented in a loose narrative style that can be read front to back or dipped into at one's leisure, the book spans three years of debbie's life, from the end of college to the present day. in these early years of adulthood, debbie slowly but finally discovers there is a name for her lifelong need to be alone: she's an introvert. the first half of the book traces debbie's final year in college: socializing with peers, dating, falling in love (with an extrovert!), moving in, getting married, meeting new people, and simply trying to fit in. the second half looks at her life after graduation: finding a job, learning to live with her new husband, trying to understand social obligations when it comes to the in-laws, and navigating office life. ultimately, quiet girl sends a positive, pro-introvert message: our heroine learns to embrace her introversion and finds ways to thrive in the world while fulfilling her need for quiet.

I use this book when I need to understand myself and fellow introverts. I also use this book to become better at sales, systemisations and processes.Shelley
Matthew Pollard explains the nature of introverts and now it makes so much sense, the way I have been thinking, processing, and creating systems. In this book, Matthew lays out a roadmap to help create a system for introverts to excel at sales. His system works with introverts, not against us. I wish I had this book when I started my career in sales.Julia
As an organizing premise, Pollard splits salespeople into two groups. The person that uses their assertive personality as a bludgeon to aggressively pursue sales, in other words the cliché of the used car salesman. This would be the extravert. On the other side is the more disciplined, less assertive personality that will not pursue a sale to the point of annoying the potential customer. In this case, the introvert. In popular literature, it is the extravert that clinches the sale, while the introvert struggles to make a living. It is Pollard’s position that if they are properly guided, it is the introverts that will make the greater number of sales. By proper guidance, he means following a proven process, which is where the introvert can outperform the extravert. For the introvert concentrates on satisfying the customer’s needs, explaining the valuable ways that the product can be used. While the extravert relies on the power of their personality and employs an often annoying hard sell strategy. However, for the introvert to outperform, the sales process and policy must be explained. Pollard openly describes creating a provenly successfull script, practicing it to perfection and then following it while on sales calls. There is no doubt that the soft sell that relies on hearing what the customer needs rather than telling them what they need is a more effective sales practice. This is a great book for companies and individuals that must go out in the field and sell to customers where there is no prior relationship between the two.Charlie

An Absolutely Fantastic Business Book Matthew Pollard has done it again. He's introduced a simple process/method to achieve success at growing your business; one that's not overwhelming or cliche'. He's accutely aware that traditional methods for sales and now, networking do not work for introverts. He flipped my existing views on networking, by offering a smart, tactical approach. I especially like that he uses solopreneurs for the business cases. I appreciate it that, as a Solopreneur.CJoy
Honored to receive a review copy from HarperCollins Leadership in exchange for genuine feedback. Coming from the 1st book, this has the familiarity and tone that one can easily recognize. The structure, flow, stories… It's so much better, but also very different. While the previous book focuses on the stages within a sales, this talks about not just within the networking event itself but also the preparations leading to one and the best strategies after it. As such, the scope is on another level. Being strategic not only for the main event but also pre- and post-. Matthew has included a rich personal collection of steps and exercises for reader. As with the 1st book, they are simple and deceptively effective, but by no means easy. Covering a wider time-frame, this installment also contains that much more actionable tools. One will really appreciate how Matthew shared stories this time. The stories covered come from such a diverse background with different settings looking for different professional outcomes. It illustrated clearly how the application of the strategies is extensive. When it comes to business, many people can have a hard time understanding and making sense of niching. It's a pleasant surprise how Matthew clarified it in such a concise and quick manner. He talked about what niching down actually is, why it matters (A LOT!), and how and when to do it correctly. Those are well and good, but nothing beats the values and virtues highlighted inside. Matthew is such a huge propagator (and embodiment) of authenticity, kindness, being a giver and always putting the others first. In the world of business and networking, these are rare but deeply appreciated qualities. The best thing? They work in perfect tandem with everything in this book! All in all, this book is absolutely a book recommended wholeheartedly – one that's quickly landing on many top lists and becoming a classic!Wong
I really appreciate the stories throughout the book, as they give lots of examples of how these networking methods can be used. Would definitely recommend this book to any introvert looking to grow their connections in an authentic way!Chels
