2. Principles: Life And Work [Book]

Product Details:
#1 new york times bestseller “significant… the book is both instructive and surprisingly moving.” —the new york times ray dalio, one of the world’s most successful investors and entrepreneurs, shares the unconventional principles that he’s developed, refined, and used over the past forty years to create unique results in both life and business—and which any person or organization can adopt to help achieve their goals.in 1975, ray dalio founded an investment firm, bridgewater associates, out of his two-bedroom apartment in new york city. forty years later, bridgewater has made more money for its clients than any other hedge fund in history and grown into the fifth most important private company in the united states, according to fortune magazine. dalio himself has been named to time magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people in the world. along the way, dalio discovered a set of unique principles that have led to bridgewater’s exceptionally effective culture, which he describes as “an idea meritocracy that strives to achieve meaningful work and meaningful relationships through radical transparency.” it is these principles, and not anything special about dalio—who grew up an ordinary kid in a middle-class long island neighborhood—that he believes are the reason behind his success. in principles, dalio shares what he’s learned over the course of his remarkable career. he argues that life, management, economics, and investing can all be systemized into rules and understood like machines. the book’s hundreds of practical lessons, which are built around his cornerstones of “radical truth” and “radical transparency,” include dalio laying out the most effective ways for individuals and organizations to make decisions, approach challenges, and build strong teams. he also describes the innovative tools the firm uses to bring an idea meritocracy to life, such as creating “baseball cards” for all employees that distill their strengths and weaknesses, and employing computerized decision-making systems to make believability-weighted decisions. while the book brims with novel ideas for organizations and institutions, principles also offers a clear, straightforward approach to decision-making that dalio believes anyone can apply, no matter what they’re seeking to achieve. here, from a man who has been called both “the steve jobs of investing” and “the philosopher king of the financial universe” (cio magazine), is a rare opportunity to gain proven advice unlike anything you’ll find in the conventional business press.

Absolutely amazing incite on how a trader should think. It's always better (imo) to have the author narrate their own books so you can hear how they intended it to be interpreted. You don't feel like you are listening to an audio disk, you feel as though Ray is sitting at a table having coffee with you and telling his life story, That said, He's a bit monotone and drab, like a grandfather talking about "the good ole days" but with priceless information that can serve you for a lifetime.vikinghammer14

Reviews:
Being a recent college graduate with a Business Management degree, I was looking forward to reading and applying the wisdom from this book. Unfortunately, the information and advice gets lost in the long-winded "stories." Many times I just scratched my head trying to link the stories to the strategy being presented. Since I had difficulty relating to the examples, I was not able to apply the concepts as written by Charles Duhigg.Avid reader 1
I got the book from the library and read it first. I wanted to make sure I would like it. Well it's such a great book that I've decided to purchase it for my personal library. I HIGHLY recommend the book. The author does a great job at weaving real life examples/stories between his research which does an excellent job at supporting his research. For anyone that wants to better understand how to motivate themselves, their direct reports, their team, etc., you should buy this, take notes, and put the information to use!metcalf98321

I bought this book because It was required for one of my courses at university. At the uni book store this book was selling for $200. The cover of the book was different but the content inside is exactly the same. The quality of the print and the pages is excellent. This is a good book for people wanting to study different techniques used in project management. It was very helpful to me during my course.visi7_123

A great book for any business owner!eruditio2011
I have enjoyed reading this book very much and have underlined and highlighted the ton out of it. I was disappointed that there was water damage to the book and it was far from a pristine "like new' book. However, the content has been so compelling that I immediately started reading, underlining and highlighting it. The only thing that has prevented me from completing reading it was a book review on another title I had due to my boss as one of my annual company goals. I finished that last night (1 Feb) and now I can get back to devouring this one.shwa1357-8vxff1

19. It [Book]
Product Details:
For use in schools and libraries only. it began, and ended, in 1958 when seven desperate children searched in the drains beneath derry for an evil creature. in 1985, mike hanlon, once one of those children, makes six phone calls and disinters an unremembered promise that sets off the ultimate terror.
Reviews:
This is definitely one of his most well known pieces of work. It is such an emotional roller coaster. Most people see the movie and feel that the book will be terrifying, and in a way it can be scary, but it's much more than a horror book. For me, I felt like I could really step inside each characters shoes. Stephen King is such an amazing writer. I don't know why, but after reading any of his books, I always finish crying.sharon.g
One of those magical authors that breathes life not only into his characters but into the reader. This book transported me back into my childhood, made me relive the same fears, experience the same ferocious emotions that the child protagonists experience. Insidious terror at it's best, this book encapsulates the youthful innocence of childhood, while dealing with feelings of abandonment of not belonging of building a perfect friendship, of versing an ultimate evil. Absolutely amazing!Laurielle
This is a replacement for me, as my original first edition went missing from my library. Its not in as fine condition as mine was, but Im pleased with it, until such time I find a better copy.pikapika1948
