2. The Bramble Bush: The Classic Lectures On The Law And Law School [Book]

Product Details:
For over seventy years, there has been one book that law students have read to prepare for what they were about to encounter. that book is the bramble bush. after all these years and many imitators, the bramble bush remains one of the most popular introductions to the law and its study.llewellyn introduces students to what the law is, how to read cases, how to prepare for class, and how justice in the real world relates to the law. although laws change every year, disputes between people haven't altered all that much since llewellyn first penned the bramble bush, and the process of moving from private dispute to legal conflict still follows the patterns he described.moreover, the steps of a legal dispute, from arguments to verdict, to opinion, to review, to appeal, to opinion have changed little in their significance or their substance. cases are still the best tools for exploring the interaction of the law with individual questions, and the essence of what law students must learn to do has persisted. if anything, many of the points llewellyn argued in these lectures were on the dawning horizon then but are in their mid-day fullness now.

Product Details:
Law school can be a joyous, soul-transforming challenge that leads to a rewarding career. it can also be an exhausting, self-limiting trap. it all depends on making smart decisions. when every advantage counts, a student’s guide to law school is like having a personal mentor available at every turn. as a recent graduate and an appellate lawyer, andrew ayers knows how high the stakes are—he’s been there, and not only did he survive the experience, he graduated first in his class. in a student’s guide to law school he shares invaluable insight on what it takes to make a successful law school journey. originating in notes ayers jotted down while commuting to his first clerkship with then-judge sonia sotomayor, and refined throughout his first years as a lawyer, a student’s guide to law school offers a unique balance of insider’s knowledge and professional advice. organized in four parts, the first part looks at tests and grades, explaining what’s expected and exploring the seven choices students must make on exam day. the second part discusses the skills needed to be a successful law student, giving the reader easy-to-use tools to analyze legal materials and construct clear arguments. the third part contains advice on how to use studying, class work, and note-taking to find your best path. finally, ayers closes with a look beyond the classroom, showing students how the choices they make in law school will affect their career—and even determine the kind of lawyer they become. the first law school guide written by a recent top-ranked graduate, a student’s guide to law school is relentlessly practical and thoroughly relevant to the law school experience of today’s students. with the tools and advice ayers shares here, students can make the most of their investment in law school, and turn their valuable learning experiences into a meaningful career.

5. Elements Of Law [Book]
Product Details:
This casebook is ideal for any introduction to law or legal method course. it is designed to develop analytic, interpretive, and advocacy skills that will be helpful to students across the range of substantive courses, while also encouraging students to think critically about the judicial process and the role of judges in a democracy. the second edition of elements of law significantly reworks and updates the first edition, which was published in 1994, while preserving the essential features and many of the principal cases from that edition. this edition is more compact than its predecessor because the lengthy materials on jurisprudence have been eliminated. thus, half of the book is devoted to the common law and half to statutory interpretation.

6. Reading Law: The Interpretation Of Legal Texts [Book]

Product Details:
In this groundbreaking book, scalia and garner systematically explain all the most important principles of constitutional, statutory, and contractual interpretation in an engaging and informative style with hundreds of illustrations from actual cases. is a burrito a sandwich? is a corporation entitled to personal privacy? if you trade a gun for drugs, are you using a gun in a drug transaction? the authors grapple with these and dozens of equally curious questions while explaining the most principled, lucid, and reliable techniques for deriving meaning from authoritative texts. meanwhile, the book takes up some of the most controversial issues in modern jurisprudence. what, exactly, is textualism? why is strict construction a bad thing? what is the true doctrine of originalism? and which is more important: the spirit of the law, or the letter? the authors write with a well-argued point of view that is definitive yet nuanced, straightforward yet sophisticated.
Reviews:
THIS is exactly the kind of book I have been wanting as a desk reference. I work in real estate and am often challenged by legal issues. Knowing how to understand law is vital and while I'm not a lawyer, this book is a great way to learn how to talk to lawyers when the need arises. Also, I'm highly interested in politics and legislation for housing and other fields. I read for hours a day, online and off, so having access to one of the greatest legal minds in our history with this book is exactly what I was hoping to find. I much prefer hardback books and the price drop was the final factor in my decision to purchase. Thanks.cathtitchena-0

Reviews:
This is a very insightful publication, revealing through 100 case studies of the supreme court justices exactly how we got to the state of our nation today. Through partisan politics and the willful misapplication of the constitution the laws of our country have been greatly eroded, which has led inexorably to the rise of the corruption of our politicians. Simply examine the dysfunction of Washington, D.C. to see this truth. If anyone truly loves our country then this book is a start on how to save it. Those whom have been termed, millennials, have mostly been turned from serving their country to more mundane, selfish pursuits, feeling that everyone owes them something, and they seem, though not all, to have little concern for the corruption all about them. We will all pay a dear price for what we have let occur to the finest publication that mankind has ever written, our constitution.Henry

Reviews:
Awesome and nice and quick responderitsti6366
I purchased this book to help with the pre-law school jitters. This was an excellent book. Well written, witty, full of advice. I'm not sure that I'll do everything recommended, but it does offer ideas and suggestions that at least got me thinking. Some of the advice was awesome (like the information folder), some was a bit confusing (like using multiple colors of highlighters to brief). Once I begin law school this fall, I'm sure more if it will make sense. All in all, a good read and well worth the cost of the book and shipping.painted-roses

Product Details:
The ability to read law well is a critical, indispensable skill that can make or break the academic career of any aspiring lawyer. in the first semester of law school alone, for example, it is not unusual for law students to read well over 2,500 pages in their assigned casebooks. this reading is challenging not only because of its sheer volume, but also because it is comprised largely of material that is unfamiliar to even the best-educated pre-law students. the reading is critical because it forms the foundation upon which all classroom discussion is built–and upon which exam content ultimately rests.fortunately, the ability to read law well (quickly and accurately) is not a gift that you're either born with or are not born with. rather, reading law well is a skill that can be acquired through knowledge and practice–an ability that can be masted, improved, and perfected by any motivated student. the sooner the student masters these skills, the greater the rewards.using seven specific reading strategies, reinforced with hands-on exercises at the end of each chapter, this book shows you how you can read law like expert law students and expert lawyers do–efficiently, effectively, powerfully, and confidently. part i introduces the reader to the fundamentals of legal reasoning upon which law-based reading builds; part ii introduces the reader to concrete strategies for reading effectively in law school; and part iii teaches strategies for reading law outside of the law school context.law students, pre-law students, and any professional whose work touches on law will all find reading like a lawyer to be an engaging, easy-to-read guide to the complex and powerful world of law-based reading.

I like this book because it explains law school and what a student is expected to do while in Law School. I got the book because I wasn't doing so well while IN Law School and the Professor I am working with suggested it. It would probably be better for a student who is thinking about Law School or for someone just starting out than for someone who is in the middle of Law School.gbfinny
