If you could only buy one art book this would be it! It teaches the fundamental skills of drawing in a fun and easy manner Each lesson builds upon the other so as the student progresses through the book their confidence builds also I would take the "30 days" and turn it into more like one lesson a week While the recommended age for this book is early teen-adult I use it for all ages I have my 7 year old doing it all the way up to my 11 year old I take each lesson and break it down and then let them go There are additional activities offered and I usually take the lesson and expand on it throughout the week to help the kids strengthen the skills learned before going onto the next lesson It has been great fun for the kids and for me! I am becoming a better artist too A great perk about this book is since we can stretch it over all of the ages in our house everyone gets to participate and to learn from each other I am definitely learning a lot and the kids really like doing it together as a family

I bought this book second hand to complement a drawing course led by Peter Stanyer himself at The Artworks in Halifax. Its not a structured beginners book (Peter has another title covering this), but detailed illustrations and descriptions which look at pencil, charcoal and pen work, all rendered in Peters unique style. If you draw, this title is a very good addition to your reference library.max053
