Reviews:
My daughter loves this curriculum. The way the material is presented is clear and concise. She's probably average in math… not outstanding, but not struggling terribly. The text helps her to work to understand new concepts and the worksheets help her practice new skills as well as review previously learned material, without overdosing on busywork. The Biblical truths embedded give glory to God as creator and sustainer, and math is just a tool we use to explore His universe. I had a hard time finding many reviews on this curriculum, but took a leap of faith when I just felt sure this was the one the Lord wanted us to use. I'm so thankful! It's really well done, and even better, she loves it even though math generally doesn't come easy for her.User
Exactly what I was looking for!erima-29
I have been SO impressed with this curriculum. My math-challenged daughter really liked Master Books Math Lessons for a Living Education. I had put her back a few lesson books for review and gap-filling and then brought her up to grade level with this teacher/student set. It speaks to a more grown up student and she's risen to that with pride. It's written well, with helpful explanations of concepts, and beautifully & realistically reflects math from biblical worldview. It reviews earlier concepts and teaches new. Some things I've learned myself as they weren't in my math books as a kid! (binary, calculating on an abacus, etc.) I highly recommend.Shelley
5. Mathematics For Secondary School Teachers [Book]

Product Details:
Mathematics for secondary school teachers discusses topics of central importance in the secondary school mathematics curriculum, including functions, polynomials, trigonometry, exponential and logarithmic functions, number and operation, and measurement.acknowledging diversity in the mathematical backgrounds of pre-service teachers and in the goals of teacher preparation programs, the authors have written a flexible text, through which instructors can emphasize any of the following: basics: exploration of key pre-college topics from intuitive and rigorous points of view; connections: exploration of relationships among topics, using tools from college-level mathematics; extensions: exploration of college-level mathematical topics that have a compelling relationship to pre-college mathematics.mathematics for secondary school teachers provides a balance of discovery learning and direct instruction. activities and exercises address the range of learning objectives appropriate for future teachers. beyond the obvious goals of conceptual understanding and computational fluency, readers are invited to devise mathematical explanations and arguments, create examples and visual representations, remediate typical student errors and misconceptions, and analyze student work. introductory discussion questions encourage prospective teachers to take stock of their knowledge of pre-college topics. a rich collection of exercises of widely varying degrees of difficulty is integrated with the text. activities and exercises are easily adapted to the settings of individual assignments, group projects, and classroom discussions.mathematics for secondary school teachers is primarily intended as the text for a bridge or capstone course for pre-service secondary school mathematics teachers. it can also be used in alternative licensure programs, as a supplement to a mathematics methods course, as the text for a graduate course for in-service teachers, and as a resource and reference for in-service faculty development.

9. The Essentials Of High School Math: Covering The Standards Set By The National Council Of Teachers Of Mathematics [Book]

Product Details:
The essentials of high school math was designed to help students learn the basics of mathematics that they are supposed to understand upon entering high school, as well as the fundamental lessons within algebra, geometry, and statistics that students typically learn in ninth and tenth grade. it is specifically intended for students identified as possibly having trouble on an upcoming state-mandated math exam, or for those who have already failed such an exam and must re-take it. there are sixty-one lessons in the book that are generally designed to be one-day lessons. some may take two days, and a few may be combined with another lesson or other material, such as sample questions from your state's math exam, in order to fill an entire period of work. since there are no official national math standards from the u.s. department of education, the lessons of this book are matched against the standards for school mathematics for grades 6-8 by the national council of teachers of mathematics (nctm). this was done to show how this book covers nearly everything that any student should know mathematically before entering high school. there are additional lessons that build upon these grade 6-8 standards in order to provide remediation on the algebra, geometry, and statistics basics that students typically learn up through tenth grade. one important feature of this book is that it was created to include everything a student needs to study, practice, and learn the material that any high school student should know. it contains almost 1,000 problems for students to practice, and the lessons themselves contain about 100 questions from actual state exams that are thoroughly explained, along with hundreds of other examples. each lesson is designed to cover one topic only so that students may learn and thoroughly understand that topic. in the interest of covering the greatest amount of material with the fewest number of questions, many state exams use questions that touch on several topics per question, such as a statistics question that requires interpreting a graph, or a geometry question that requires the solving of algebraic equations. while this may be a more efficient method for testing students, it can cause someone who understands most of a question to get it wrong. it also can provide misleading data about what skills students are lacking when test results come back to school districts. as such, the practice questions in this book focus on the one topic that a lesson covers. whether with the help of a teacher, tutor, parent, or even alone, any student should be able to read through a lesson and have a good understanding of it. the essentials of high school math is recommended for any student that needs help with math.

16. Knowing And Teaching Elementary Mathematics: Teachers' Understanding Of Fundamental Mathematics In China And The United States [Book]

Product Details:
The 20th anniversary edition of this groundbreaking and bestselling volume offers powerful examples of the mathematics that can develop the thinking of elementary school children. studies of teachers in the u.s. often document insufficient subject matter knowledge in mathematics. yet, these studies give few examples of the knowledge teachers need to support teaching, particularly the kind of teaching demanded by reforms in mathematics education. knowing and teaching elementary mathematics describes the nature and development of the knowledge that elementary teachers need to become accomplished mathematics teachers, and suggests why such knowledge seems more common in china than in the united states, despite the fact that chinese teachers have less formal education than their u.s. counterparts. teachers' knowledge is a mirror that reflects the mathematics they teach and were taught. along with the original studies of u.s. and chinese teachers' mathematical understanding, this 20th anniversary edition includes a new preface and a 2013 journal article by ma, "a critique of the structure of u.s. elementary school mathematics" that describe differences in u.s. and chinese elementary mathematics. these are augmented by a new series editor's introduction and two key journal articles that frame and contextualize this seminal work.

Great book and easy to follow.krisaitk
I had this book before. My daughter took it. So I have been a little lost with out it. I used this for a test that I took with the paper mill and it proved to be very beneficial. Keep in mind you don't go into really different math. Just what you use in every day life and then some.mitzi-17
