Reviews:
This is a beautiful hard cover book containing what many would consider essentials (practical knowledge) for boys preparing for life. It may have some conservative views in it, which it okay with me. Overall, it is just very basic, practical information that many families are too busy these days to pass on. I originally bought it for an 8 year old boy. However, once I had the book in hand, I realized that it was more appropriate for a boy of 12 or or older. I liked the book too much to return it, so I am keeping to read and/or to give as a gift when the right opportunity presents itself. This is a high quality purchase for which I paid only $8.99! What a value!Olive
great book for boys – grandsons and great grandsons – excellent content for all youth – girls or boys\ from Invictus – "it matters not how straight the gate – how charged with punishments the scroll – I am the master of my fate – the captain of my soul." this is something worth remembering and repeating and sharing with our young people.sleepyswan
2. My Side Of The Mountain (Paperback)

Product Details:
Reviews:
I read this book as a child and loved it! Some of the passages are still very clear in my mind decades later. This is a fictional account of a boy who runs away from home to live alone in the woods. But the depth of story and the detailed account of his various survival techniques have made many question whether the story was true. Now that I have children of my own, I had to buy the book for them. Its a great book and I highly recommend it!butterrum

Rather late to the Heartstopper party but ordered the first 4 book volumes for me and my daughter to read. We both absolutely loved Alice Oseman's touching handling of Charlie and Nick's flourishing relationship – they expertly demonstrate how much can be conveyed through images. Came to these books via the Netflix series and I loved to see how much of the content and images from the first two books are reflected in the Netflix series (such as Charlie on tiptoes to kiss Nick). Have already read books 3 and 4 several times and looking forward to this being interpreted in a sensitive way for the next series. Also can't wait for volume 5 of these books to be published so we can keep enjoying the Heartstopper characters' journeys.Claire F
I want to make people aware that even though this looks like a copic book and meets the lexile range of elementary students, it is not suitable for elementary aged children without the concent of their parents. It talks about topics that some may not find developmentally appropriate. According to the book rating, even though it has words that meet elementary lexile range, the book is recommended for grades 9 and up. I feel by the author using elementary lexile levels but young adult topics, it is only fair to put the caution out to parents who may not wish for their child to be exposed to such topics at a young age.elementaryteacher

Reviews:
Very good! True story, written well, and suitable for young readers.mruth801
This is a moving, page turning biography of one of the boys in the boat which beat the Germans at the Olympics in Germany. From being a 15 year old boy left behind by his father when he moves away with his stepmother to attending university while holding down jobs so he can eat and pay board this story is inspiring and the hardships he had to endure made me realise how lucky I am. The adult novel is told in great depth and with lots of history of WWII and the Great Depression in America . As such this version is probably only half as good to read, but if you are not able to read the long version, this is still a great story.amandaPanda
I read it as a Bookclub read we all LOVED it. Then bought it for my 13 yr old grandson whos reading it now.marye2172a4s

Amazing. The artwork was beautiful and it was a nice breath of fresh air compared to the movie.Quentavious
Graphics are exciting, stays pretty true to original storychediego35
Long title I know sorry. Have you seen the movie? Read the novel series? Read this graphic novel? I have done two out three the movie and the graphic novel. They are not the same but the spirit of the character and some of the circumstances are similar. Here is the inside of the jacket to the graphic novel to explain a bit better: 'The first books in the blockbuster best-selling series like you have never seen it before. Mythological monsters and gods of the Mount Olympus seem to be walking out of the pages of twelve year old Percy Jackson's textbooks and into his life. And worse he's angered a few of them. Zeus's master lightning bolt has been stolen and Percy is the Prime suspect. Now he and his friends have just ten days to find and return Zeus's stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus.' Sounds like serious stuff. I had the good fortune of sharing this with my eleven year old daughter who accompanied me to the movie of the same name. Our thoughts were pretty much the same on both projects. The graphic novel was a very good rendering of the story and added a few new elements to it. Seeing it in a different way told in a different manner kept it fresh for me and intrigued me a bit. The differences raised many questions for me in the manner in which the characters were drawn. Why? Who determined the changes and what was the genesis of them? It seems to me that the trends in today's graphic novels is to pen and ink the characters as closely to the actor as possible to use as an extension of that to build upon that and use it as a synergy to bridge the gap in time between vehicles. In Venditti's graphic novel we have breaks that are nice but I was a bit perplexed as to why he strayed from the story with such large gaps in plotline. Having said that this is a very nice graphic novel. I was happy to have been able to share this and my thoughts of it with my daughter that doesn't get to happen too much anymore. The artwork was nice the dialogue and the feeling it imparted were very good and the overall project works. Hopefully they continue to produce the graphic novels for the series. It is nice to see a character and a series brought forth in all three dimensions: novel graphic novel and movie. What are you reading today? Check us out and become our friend on Shelfari & Linkedin. Basically published scooby doo fan fiction for young adults. What could be better?MEGAN
It took me like a year after purchase to get around to reading this. I regret not having done so sooner. It was a really fun story all the way through with characters slightly altered from those we remember from Saturday morning cartoons. There is some harsh language so maybe not for young kids but teens and adults I think would enjoy. It plays out kinda like the mysteries we watched the gang solve way back when but is still set in the early 90s. If you like Scooby Doo, you'll enjoy this book.joe.b

Reviews:
What a wonderful series for preteens/teens. My 9 yr old grandson received 5 different books recently in the series and has read each book at least 2 times and I normally cannot get him to read a book. I LOVE this series. He has also seen the movies and loves them too. Yay! He is reading!!!!scar8518
The title of the book speaks volumes: "Diary of a Wimpy Kid." It caught me off guard at first and I was a little hesitant to even give it a second look. However, there was something about the stick-figured illustrations on the front of the book that tugged at my soul. On a whim I decided to place my bid on this book. After waiting (I must admit I did loose quite a bit of sleep over this) for the bidding to end, I found myself in a state of jubilation once I realized that I had won. I immediately called all my immediate family members as well as my neighbors and clergyman. It was an occasion that I wanted to share with everybody! When I received the book it was like a religious experience. I opened my mailbox and immediately started to shake; probably out of excitement. As soon as I touched the package, I felt a pulse of energy surge through my body and everything around me became clear. As I walked back to the house, hundreds of different thoughts rushed through my head. Alas, the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" had finally arrived. I opened the package and when I removed the book my knees buckled and gave way. I found myself on my knees on my kitchen floor crying tears of joy as I began reading the book. Since then, I have looked back at that single day as the most life changing experience I have ever had. It has turned me into a new person and for that I am grateful.ricanus21
My whole family loves this book. It's funny and they even made a movie about it which was even funnier. My son is always reading this book and talking about how funny it is. It's funny because Rodrick tortures Greg by threatening to post a video about him in leisure towers with only his underwear on. But in the end Greg convinced his mom to let Rodrick play in the talent show with his band even though Rodrick was not allowed to play in the talent show. Greg conviced his mom to let Rodrick play in the talent show by letting Rowley use Greg in the talent show.
15. The Last Kids On Earth: Max Brallier – Book

Product Details:
The simpsons meets the walking dead in this hilarious post-apocalyptic graphic novel for middle-grade readers. ever since the monster apocalypse hit town, average thirteen year old jack sullivan has been living in his tree house, which he's armed to the teeth with catapults and a moat, not to mention video games and an endless supply of oreos and mountain dew scavenged from abandoned stores. but jack alone is no match for the hoards of zombies and winged wretches and vine thingies, and especially not for the eerily intelligent monster known only as blarg.
Reviews:
I bought this for my 8 year old son with the hope that it would grab his interest enough to help cut back on his desire to play video games constantly. This book really did the trick. He couldn’t put it down and finished it in a few days. It’s gross in a kid-appropriate way, very silly, and thoroughly entertaining. Definitely worth the purchase!SLCont
My daughter discovered and loved the TV series on Netflix (clearly advertised on the book covers). I recently found out it was initially a book series, which made sense, since I also watched it with my 11-yo, and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it myself! The books arrived beautifully presented, just with a cross of plastic to protect and hold the set together. They were all in perfect condition, and we started reading the books right away — my daughter being bicultural, her English is not yet where it could be at, what with her attending a French school rather than a British one… so we read together and I make her watch everything I can in English. This is American but luckily the British publisher used British spelling throughout, which is particularly important in our case! She is absolutely loving these books, and I am thrilled to see how much help it was to watch the series in English and then read the books. Esp. because the series closely followed the events of the books, which was another great piece of news! So anyway, I highly recommend this very affordable set, which is surprisingly well written, witty, laugh-out-loud funny, and highly enjoyable on the whole.A V. H. R.
