Reviews:
Allen is brilliant because this method does really work and he is right in saying it's not hard to do. I got the longer version, no illustrations and with the CD. Repetition and coming to the realization that alcohol does nothing for you except damage are a couple key points. I wish I had read this a long time ago. Read it and take it seriously and follow his instructions to the letter and it will work for you too..thndrbass
I've read this book in different language about 10years ago. It did work. I also recommend the smoking and the worrying books. They all worked for me. Highly recommended lecturesmarinc27

Reviews:
I had no intention of giving up alcohol when I read this book. I just wanted to cut back a bit because I knew I was drinking more than I should. I stopped drinking before I'd finished it and haven't touched a drop since, or wanted one. This is absolutely unprecedented since I started drinking 20 years ago. You don't need to be "an alcoholic" to read this book. If you think you might drink a wee bit too much then read it and see what happens. What have you got to lose-Jenny
I just want to say that after heavily drinking straight up vodka and beer,This book helped me quit when I finished the last page. I even poured out 2 pints of my liqour which if you knew me , i would never have done. I wouldn't have believed it if you've handed me the book to read. I am so happy now, no more hangovers, no more making a fool of myself, and now I spend more time with my kids instead of being to exhausted after a night of drinking. You have no idea what a lifesaver this book is. I would've been dead by 50 from cirrhosis of the liver if i hadn't found this book. Please take the time to read this amazing book. Your life depends on it.greeneyes2576
By half way through, I was chomping at the bit to stop drinking! I couldn't wait till the end and it was just so, so easy. I will be lending this one out again and again.Enlightened

This is a good basic book for those persons needing some guidance or a first step to stop drinking or drugging. I bought this book to give to a friend who drinks and is looking to quit but fearful of the process. The book discusses why people get addicted (without blame) and steps to take and who to contact for help. It allows the person to think through why he/she wants to quit and gives encouragement in the process. The book was published in 1996 but still is appropriate today. I would have liked a more current edition but it is still relevant today, almost 20 years later.caseysopencloset

9. Alcohol Lied To Me: The Intelligent Way To Escape Alcohol Addiction [Book]
Product Details:
Craig beck is a well-regarded family man with two children, a beautiful home, and a successful media career. a director of several companies & at one time the trustee of a large children's charity. craig was a successful & functioning professional man in spite of a '2 bottles of wine a night' drinking habit. for 20 years he struggled with problem drinking, all the time refusing to label himself an alcoholic because he didn't believe he met the stereotypical image that the word portrayed. – he tried countless ways to cut down; attempting 'dry months, ' banning himself from drinking spirits, only drinking at the weekend & special occasions (and found that it is amazing how even the smallest of an event can suddenly become 'special'). all these 'willpower' based attempts to stop drinking failed (exactly as they were destined to do). slowly he discovered the truth about alcohol addiction & one by one all the lies he had previously believed started to fall apart. for the first time, he noticed that he genuinely didn't want to drink anymore. in this book, he will lead you through the same fantastic process. – the craig beck quit drinking method is unique: no need to declare yourself an alcoholic. a permanent cure, not a lifetime struggle. no group meetings or expensive rehab. – no humiliation, no pain and 100% no 'willpower' required. treats the source of the problem, not just the symptoms. what people are saying about 'alcohol lied to me': "i was so excited to find your method. i had never seen anything quite like it so of course i enthusiastically purchased it. i have to say i was blown away by the unique frankness. it really hits home in a very good way. it's as if a very caring, non-judgemental friend can see right through me in a way that can only be known by someone who's been through it all. i am incredibly grateful to have found your book and your logical genius.

10. Take Control Of Your Drinking: A Practical Guide To Alcohol Moderation, Sobriety, And When To Get Professional Help [Book]
Product Details:
Accepting that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to controlling drinking, the latest edition of this bestselling book will help you assess your drinking and determine whether moderation or abstinence is the best path for you.for decades, the standard treatment for people struggling with alcohol consumption has focused on convincing them to admit that they are an alcoholic, to stop drinking entirely, and to enter into a program, most commonly alcoholics anonymous. but in his more than thirty-five-year career as an addiction specialist working with people who want to change their drinking habits, michael s. levy has found that the routes to behavioral change actually vary. and although abstinence is the successful route for many people, others can moderate their drinking on their own or with professional help. in this practical, effective, and compassionate book, levy helps people take control of their alcohol problem by teaching them how to think about and address their drinking habits. beginning with a set of self-assessments that reveal whether the reader's use of alcohol is creating problems, levy explains the causes of problem drinking, discusses the growing recognition of the various ways an alcohol use disorder can show itself, and talks about why it is so difficult to change. offering advice for choosing between moderating your drinking or abstaining altogether, he also touches on coping with slipups, fighting helplessness and the fear of failure, and knowing when moderation is not achievable. the book is unique in that instead of telling people what they need to do, it meets people at their stage of change and level of readiness to change and helps them decide for themselves what they need to do. drawing on the latest scientific evidence, this new edition includes – a chapter on the concept of self-medication—a useful but at times overused idea; – a chapter on the concurrent use of drugs (particularly cannabis) during recovery; – an exploration of modern strategies for dealing with drinking, including technology (apps that count drinks, for example) and medications that curb alcohol consumption; – reflections on the use of stigma; – communication strategies for individuals seeking to share their struggle with others; – an exploration of common triggers; – additional worksheets and tips to achieve success; – further material about self-help programs; and – insights about the dark side of addiction treatment.ultimately, take control of your drinking empowers people to tackle their drinking problem and gives them the freedom to do so in a way that fits with their own lifestyle and values. this book is useful for anyone who may find that they are drinking too much, for the loved ones of such people, and for clinicians who want to broaden their skills when working with people who struggle with alcohol.
