I absolutely adored this book. It's the story of the relationship between these two people, Sam and Sadie who met in a hospital when they were kids and end up making games together when they grow up. It's a wonderful exploration of the deep, messy and yet incredibly strong relationship between the pair of them, which is not a sexual one, and I found it fascinating. It is not always a smooth relationship, but it's one where it's so clear to the reader how much they mean to each other and it makes the rough times tragic, especially when you jump from one of their perspectives to the other. I also felt that it was interestingly told, too. For example, for the first section of the book it is constantly jumping between them as kids in the hospital and them 8 years later when in uni, while also throwing in some quotes from them in the future about this time period that they give in a Kotaku interview. It's a book so full of love and struggle and I just found such it a wonderful read. It made me cry.Alexandre T.

Alaina left it open for a sequel which I will be sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for. This books is jumpy, and feels rushed or unfinished. There were grammatical errors and passages that were written in a way that felt unedited and unchecked. Some descriptions of the settings just were plain inaccurate/did not make sense, which pulled me out of the story. The author has come into the scene with a built-in fan base, which explains a lot of the really positive reviews in my opinion. Avid readers will likely be disappointed in this book. This is my first novel by Elizabeth Noble and I will admit that I enjoyed it. It surely makes readers want to be a part of or start a reading group! I will say though, that it was a bit like short stories combined into one novel. Im not sure which would be better because at first with all the characters it gets a bit confusing to remember everyones own story. However, it picks up after the first few chapters. Therefore, it is an enjoyable read and it fits in well with the stories the women read in the book. I would give it a B or Good If you like a bit of drama in novels, and you enjoy a few conflicts the pick up the readnig group. It won't dissappoint!ellegatto

I don't normally write reviews, but I felt like this book needed one. After 2020 and everything that has happened I've been thinking a lot about how to navigate life and the bad that's thrown at you. I feel like this is a really fantastic book to read to shed perspective. Rather than getting hung up on the bad, noticing the good and just living in the now can be quite remarkable. Learning to live without regrets had been a big part of helping me be more content. I would definitely recommend people to read this book, no matter what genre you normally prefer. I have suffered mental health concerns for 15 years and I feel like the author did well at depicting some of the thoughts and feels of some people like me.Tahlia
My Book Club chose this for the monthly read. There was so much potential in this storyline, but it missed the mark. It was very redundant and barely held my attention. I found myself wanting to just close the book and not finish, but I’m no quitter. I trudged on, skipping pages that were the same ole same ole and celebrated when I finally finished! Again, Matt Haig has crafted another tale of philosophical brilliance. While The Midnight Library wasn't what I expected, it was still interwoven with sci-fi, fantasy elements and a fascinating premise. There were quite a few life lessons throughout the book about letting go of regrets and truly seeing and appreciating the life you are given. The character growth and world building were well done and the ending was satisfactory. Overall, I understand the message behind the library and the multiverse scenarios, but I didn't totally connect with the story. It is possible that I had different expectations prior to reading The Midnight Library. Even so, the author did create a compelling work of fiction that no doubt many will enjoy. While this book may not have been my cup of tea, Matt Haig is an excellent writer and this one is definitely worth reading.MELISSA
