I would definitely recommend this for people who like adventure, excitement and mystery. This book is up in one of the best books I've ever read. This book is the GOAT of all books.Budah
Originally reviewed on Just Me My Books. The book follows Percy, who ends up vaporising his maths teacher on a trip to a New York museum, and no one seems to notice. When he is expelled from yet another boarding school, his mother treats him to a weekend at the beach, even though it looks like a hurricane is about to descend on them. It's only on the arrival of Percy's friend Grover do they realise something is wrong and that a Minotaur is after Percy. Soon, Percy arrives at Camp Half-Blood and learns that he is a Demigod – half human, half god. After being recognised by his father, one of the three gods who vowed they would not have any more children, Percy finds out he is being blamed for stealing Zeus' master lightning bolt, and so is sent on a quest to retrieve it from the Underworld before the Summer Solstice, in order to prevent war on Mount Olympus. With the help of his Satyr Grove and fellow camper Annabeth, they discover that the gods have more to worry about than Percy being the son of a powerful god, and that Kronos maybe trying to make a comeback.victoria.k
My Appraisal of the book Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief Written by Rick Riordan If you were wondering about this book and can't decide if you want to read it, I read it and maybe this will help you decide. This book tells the first story of the Percy Jackson Series. The story is mainly based on Greek mythology but with a modern twist. Read about the marvelous first adventure of main character Percy Jackson (a teen from Manhattan) and his friends as they fight monsters and try to keep peace between the Olympian gods. This story is full of action and adventure and will keep readers wanting more. This story won't let you down, except that there is more in the series, and you haven't read it all. yet. I highly recommend this book. Opinion of the Tome GuyThe Tome Guy

10. Heaven Is For Real: A Little Boy's Astounding Story Of His Trip To Heaven And Back [Book]

Product Details:
#1 new york times best-seller with more than 11 million copies sold and amazon's #17 best-selling book of all time. heaven is for real was the best-selling non-fiction book of 2011 as reported by nielsen's bookscan, and was developed as a major motion picture by sony in 2014." do you remember the hospital, colton?" sonja said. "yes, mommy, i remember," he said. "that's where the angels sang to me." when colton burpo made it through an emergency appendectomy, his family was overjoyed at his miraculous survival. what they weren't expecting, though, was the story that emerged in the months that followed–a story as beautiful as it was extraordinary, detailing their little boy's trip to heaven and back.colton, not yet four years old, told his parents he left his body during the surgery-and authenticated that claim by describing exactly what his parents were doing in another part of the hospital while he was being operated on. he talked of visiting heaven and relayed stories told to him by people he met there whom he had never met in life, sharing events that happened even before he was born. he also astonished his parents with descriptions and obscure details about heaven that matched the bible exactly, though he had not yet learned to read.with disarming innocence and the plainspoken boldness of a child, colton tells of meeting long-departed family members. he describes jesus, the angels, how "really, really big" god is, and how much god loves us. retold by his father, but using colton's uniquely simple words, heaven is for real offers a glimpse of the world that awaits us, where as colton says, "nobody is old and nobody wears glasses." heaven is for real will forever change the way you think of eternity, offering the chance to see, and believe, like a child. continue the burpos story in heaven changes everything: the rest of our story. heaven is for real also is available in spanish, el cielo es real.
Reviews:
Do not make the mistake I made, and think you will "read a chapter or two" of this book before heading off to bed shortly after midnight. Although I tried several times to go to bed, I simply could not put the book down long enough to do so. Fortunately, I managed to read the entire book in just under three hours so sleep was not delayed too long into the morning hours, and I was not at all disappointed with the delay! While I am not certain I believe everything I read, I am definitely open to possibilities. Hey – I have never been to Heaven, and who I am to say what is and is not accurate. Many of the things described do match my expectations and many more I have never considered (just like Colton's father). For example, some may find it disconcerting to learn that Colton saw Satan in Heaven. I had not expected that myself. However, it did not really surprise me once I thought about it. In Job 1:6 we read, "Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them." Clearly Satan does appear before the Lord, and I would assume that would be in Heaven. I was also not surprised to read of Colton's miscarried sister and father's grandfather introducing themselves to him. Or of his having information that he could not have known at such a young age without having seen it firsthand (Jesus having "markers" – the wounds of the crucifixion, Jesus sitting at the right hand of God, the pearls on the gates of heaven, the thrones, the crowns…..). Whether you believe in NDE (near death experiences) or not, this book is enlightening, easy to read, and captivating. It is a story that will open your mind to possibilities and start you thinking if nothing else. And maybe, just maybe, it will open your heart to a message that God is trying to tell you through a small child who sat on the lap of Jesus while his daddy yelled at God, God listened, and Colton returned to tell his daddy that God answered that prayer.happy2beHis
A well-written account, compelling in it's innocence. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone with any interest in Heaven – regardless of one's religion. I have to say, however, that I am always astonished at the gullibility of lay persons who give in to the callous disregard of many physicians. It was difficult to read of this child's suffering without standing up and shouting,"What in the world is the matter with all of you?" I wanted to rage against the doctors for their incompetence and at the parents for just knuckling under to them when Todd was so plainly DYING right under their noses. Of course, that's probably just exactly the response they were hoping to provoke in the reader-makes for excellent drama, and without everything happening just as it did, the story would not have been told at all. God does indeed, work in mysterious ways! I read a book years ago entitled, My Glimpse of Eternity, by Betty Malz (I think I have all this correct), which contained a similarly amazing account of the healing she obtained while in the presence of Jesus in heaven. Proof of her experience was documented by the surgeons who observed that many of her internal organs had been ravaged into non-existence by overwhelming gangrenous infection; however, when she was found to be alive (after a sheet had been placed over her face and she had been pronounced dead)all those organs that had been pools of black goo (intestines, kidneys, reproductive tract, etc.)began to function normally even as the doctors were telling her family that she would never be able to eat, urinate, conceive, etc., normally again. She then ate a meal and had a normal bowel movement, voided normally, and several years after this incident she gave birth to a normal, healthy baby girl. Some hospital records were provided to give credence to this report, I believe. It was a good, faith-building read – couldn't put it down til the last word! This one is quite similar in theme, but the story itself unfolds quite a bit differently. Read this – you'll be amazed and delighted in the end!wrenrose07
Great book, could not put it down. Read it in two sittings and I am not a reader. It is not just a story about Heaven it is also a story for any parent who loves their child. For me it was two stories in one. Both equally worth the read, without giving up the whole story line it starts off with the parents trying to get their child well when the normal things are just not working. The second half is Colton's story of what he sees and experiences. Well worth the time to read this one. Might even help to answers some of those life's questions we all have a times in our lives. Very cool book. Enjoy it!idusa78

Reviews:
This is a beautiful hard cover book containing what many would consider essentials (practical knowledge) for boys preparing for life. It may have some conservative views in it, which it okay with me. Overall, it is just very basic, practical information that many families are too busy these days to pass on. I originally bought it for an 8 year old boy. However, once I had the book in hand, I realized that it was more appropriate for a boy of 12 or or older. I liked the book too much to return it, so I am keeping to read and/or to give as a gift when the right opportunity presents itself. This is a high quality purchase for which I paid only $8.99! What a value!Olive
great book for boys – grandsons and great grandsons – excellent content for all youth – girls or boys\ from Invictus – "it matters not how straight the gate – how charged with punishments the scroll – I am the master of my fate – the captain of my soul." this is something worth remembering and repeating and sharing with our young people.sleepyswan

Book delivered promptly to me. I took The BFG and The Witches to Norway recently to read to 3 grandchildren and we read BFG in no time as they didn't want me to stop. Each paragraph was exciting. However, the jaw-breaker names were not easy to read! The Witches followed with kids complaining each time they were called for a meal and we had to stop reading.no nick name

13. Old Yeller [Book]

Product Details:
A timeless american classic and one of the most beloved children’s books ever written, old yeller is a newbery honor book that explores the poignant and unforgettable bond between a boy and the stray dog who becomes his loyal friend. when his father sets out on a cattle drive toward kansas for the summer, fourteen-year-old travis coates is left to take care of his family and their farm. living in texas hill country during the 1860s, travis comes to face new, unanticipated, and often perilous responsibilities in the frontier wilderness.a particular nuisance is a stray yellow dog that shows up one day and steals food from the family. but the big canine who travis calls “old yeller” proves his worth by defending the family from danger. and travis ultimately finds help and comfort in the courage and unwavering love of the dog who comes to be his very best friend. fred gipson’s novel is an eloquently simple story that is both exciting and deeply moving. it stands alongside works like the adventures of huckleberry finn, where the red fern grows, and shiloh as a beloved and enduring classic of literature. originally published in 1956 to instant acclaim, old yeller later inspired a hit film from walt disney. just as old yeller inevitably makes his way into the coates family’s hearts, this book will find its own special place in readers’ hearts.

I am buying lots of age-appropriate for my grandchildren to keep at my house so we can read when they visit. This one is a keeper!BankLady
My daughter loves this book and it is in great shape. It was a Christmas present and even arrived before Christmas.( I ordered it late.) The story is about a little boy in second grade. The book is narrated through Billy Miller's point of view. It tells of his school life and his home life throughout the year. It is a wonderful read for children grades 1st thru 4th. The plot is what most second graders would endure in a school year. It had nothing shocking or surprising and totally relate-able to most kids. Highly recommend it.proud-k

Reviews:
Great lessons but the book could use better & more questions to review the lesson. A child is often able to pick the correct answers without learning the material. This book alone would not be adequate for homeschooling. It does not include a complete cirriculum for my state standards. It is good to use over summers or near the end of the school year to keep kids skills sharp. Kids are able to do most of the material in this book independently. Overall I am satisfied with the purchase. The books arrived very quickly, well packaged and with excellent customer service. I will buy more books in the series even knowing that they do not include complete cirriculums.Sonya
Using this to refresh as we go into 3rd grade curriculum. It's so thorough while not being overwhelming and the illustrations are eye catching.CHELSEA
We're loving this book so far! We bought it as a summer intro to second grade before we start using our actual second grade curriculum books. We've been keeping all of the subject separate with post-it notes to make it a bit easier. While I do like the book, I wouldn't consider it a complete second grade curriculum. We're using it to introduce what we'll be doing in-depth next year.Bethany
