Reviews:
Without a doubt, the single most informative book on the iterative entrepreneurial process. The contents of this book, if followed, replaces the needless suffering of failing to find product-market fit. Every entrepreneurship class I have ever sat in (Babson, RMIT, Swinburne) has at some point referenced the ideas contained in this text. Again, if followed, this book can easily replace an entire degree or masters…. Enjoy!Mattwastaken
Not bad but a lot more focused on IT start-ups as opposed to manufacturing which it purports to include but which gets little attention. So, good if you are doing IT but maybe still a bit wordy and not quite as inspiring as what I was hoping for.Alistair
This book is a MUST read if you are planning to set up your own business. Whilst most examples are about the tech industry, it provides a robust framework applicable to any start up.A must read for any aspiring ent

4. The Startup [Book]
Product Details:
In chris guillebeau's travel to over 175 countries, he has met two kinds of people: those like himself who have the time and income to follow their whims and who've created an entertaining and fulfilling life–and those who feel trapped. this second group wants what the first group has, but the big stumbling block is making money. because chris realized that the first group has knowledge to impart, he identified 1500 people worth emulating, and refining that further, he offers here the 50 most valuable and interesting examples of micro-business success. in nearly all cases, people with no special skills discovered a way to monetize their personal passions. it's about finding the intersection between what you like to do and what other people will pay for. you don't need an mba, a business plan, or even employees. all you need is a product or service that flows from what you love to do anyway, people willing to pay, and a way to get paid.

8. Traction: How Any Startup Can Achieve Explosive Customer Growth [Book]

Product Details:
Most startups don’t fail because they can’t build a product. most startups fail because they can’t get traction. startup advice tends to be a lot of platitudes repackaged with new buzzwords, but traction is something else entirely. as gabriel weinberg and justin mares learned from their own experiences, building a successful company is hard. for every startup that grows to the point where it can go public or be profitably acquired, hundreds of others sputter and die. smart entrepreneurs know that the key to success isn’t the originality of your offering, the brilliance of your team, or how much money you raise. that’s called traction, and it makes everything else easier—fund-raising, hiring, press, partnerships, acquisitions. talk is cheap, but traction is hard evidence that you’re on the right path.traction will teach you the nineteen channels you can use to build a customer base, and how to pick the right ones for your business. it draws on inter-views with more than forty successful founders, including jimmy wales (wikipedia), alexis ohanian (reddit), paul english (kayak), and dharmesh shah (hubspot). they offer a three-step framework (called bullseye) to figure out which ones will work best for your business. but no matter how you apply them, the lessons and examples in traction will help you create and sustain the growth your business desperately needs.

Product Details:
In the $100 startup, chris guillebeau shows you how to lead of life of adventure, meaning and purpose – and earn a good living. still in his early thirties, chris is on the verge of completing a tour of every country on earth – he's already visited more than 175 nations – and yet he's never held a “real job” or earned a regular paycheck. rather, he has a special genius for turning ideas into income, and he uses what he earns both to support his life of adventure and to give back. there are many others like chris – those who've found ways to opt out of traditional employment and create the time and income to pursue what they find meaningful. sometimes, achieving that perfect blend of passion and income doesn't depend on shelving what you currently do. you can start small with your venture, committing little time or money, and wait to take the real plunge when you're sure it's successful. in preparing to write this book, chris identified 1,500 individuals who have built businesses earning $50,000 or more from a modest investment (in many cases, $100 or less), and from that group he's chosen to focus on the 50 most intriguing case studies. in nearly all cases, people with no special skills discovered aspects of their personal passions that could be monetized, and were able to restructure their lives in ways that gave them greater freedom and fulfillment. here, finally, distilled into one easy-to-use guide, are the most valuable lessons from those who've learned how to turn what they do into a gateway to self-fulfillment. it's all about finding the intersection between your “expertise” – even if you don't consider it such — and what other people will pay for. you don't need an mba, a business plan or even employees. all you need is a product or service that springs from what you love to do anyway, people willing to pay, and a way to get paid. not content to talk in generalities, chris tells you exactly how many dollars his group of unexpected entrepreneurs required to get their projects up and running; what these individuals did in the first weeks and months to generate significant cash; some of the key mistakes they made along the way, and the crucial insights that made the business stick. among chris's key principles: if you're good at one thing, you're probably good at something else; never teach a man to fish – sell him the fish instead; and in the battle between planning and action, action wins. in ancient times, people who were dissatisfied with their lives dreamed of finding magic lamps, buried treasure, or streets paved with gold. this remarkable book will start you on your way.

Reviews:
The idea of the book is simple. If you dont have money/other resources you become more resourceful and look for creative ways to build a business. Also, being broke is motivational as you are "hungry". He just repeats this idea with examples, and the cost of the book is actually expensive and the quality of the edition I received was poor. I think there are probably many more better and cheaper books out there.davidwmjones

13. Lost And Founder: A Painfully Honest Field Guide To The Startup World [Book]

Product Details:
Rand fishkin, the founder and former ceo of moz, reveals how traditional silicon valley "wisdom" leads far too many startups astray, with the transparency and humor that his hundreds of thousands of blog readers have come to love.everyone knows how a startup story is supposed to go: a young, brilliant entrepreneur has a cool idea, drops out of college, defies the doubters, overcomes all odds, makes billions, and becomes the envy of the technology world.this is not that story. it's not that things went badly for rand fishkin; they just weren't quite so zuckerberg-esque. his company, moz, maker of marketing software, is now a $45 million/year business, and he's one of the world's leading experts on seo. but his business and reputation took fifteen years to grow, and his startup began not in a harvard dorm room but as a mother-and-son family business that fell deeply into debt.now fishkin pulls back the curtain on tech startup mythology, exposing the ups and downs of startup life that most ceos would rather keep secret. for instance: a minimally viable product can be destructive if you launch at the wrong moment. growth hacking may be the buzzword du jour, but initiatives can fizzle quickly. revenue and growth won't protect you from layoffs. and venture capital always comes with strings attached. fishkin's hard-won lessons are applicable to any kind of business environment. up or down the chain of command, at both early stage startups and mature companies, whether your trajectory is riding high or down in the dumps: this book can help solve your problems, and make you feel less alone for having them.

I originally checked this book out at my college library but after delving in, I knew I had to have my own copy. The information is so relevant. The author is on point with his scenarios and topics. In addition the reader can write in with his or her answers to the case studies and get personal feedback from the author! Who does that?! THIS guy! I'm learning so much and the language is not legalesed and technicalized to the point that a common person will need a dictionary, thesaurus or encyclopedia to understand what is being presented. Very good informationluxiousglam
While I haven't finished reading the book, the material that is written is easy, like a step by step guide. He not only talks about his experiences as an entrepreneur, but how anyone can start up their own company. I would recommend that you take the book seriously and take notes. Some of the info may be a bit out dated, but the lessons from it will last for awhile. I recommend this book to anyone that is ready to start up their business but aren't sure what steps are needed. This book is a wonderful guide for everyone.firekovu
