20 Best Books For Third Grade Boys (2023 Update)

My going into third grade son was excited to read this book, he felt like he could relate. His little brother was also starting kindergarten as he was going into third grade just like in the book so this made him even more excited to read it. Such a great book for your to read.Lisa

This story is an absolute classic. I bought it to read to my year six students and they are loving it. The story is so well written and on my third reading I am still completely enthralled. A wonderful book to own. I can't recommend it enough!two red hens

I read this book as a child and loved it! Some of the passages are still very clear in my mind decades later. This is a fictional account of a boy who runs away from home to live alone in the woods. But the depth of story and the detailed account of his various survival techniques have made many question whether the story was true. Now that I have children of my own, I had to buy the book for them. Its a great book and I highly recommend it!butterrum

My 9 year old daughter loves this book. She could not put it down! This book is an excellent source of survival tips. It teaches kids to imagine "what if" situations, which prove to be beneficial as they grow into adulthood. I recommend this book to all!mrs.jefferson

As a school librarian, I bought this book to read to the third grade. Some people have been very critical of it, saying kids should not feel pressure to be "cool". While children should always feel accepted and loved, they still might find this story amusing and be able to relate when Robbie is embarrassed by a mother who buys him a pretty pony ruler and kisses him at the bus stop. I personally heard some "I can relate" giggles from students. Robbie learns that sometimes you just have to politely communicate your feelings, even about what kinds of school supplies you want and don't want. Robbie also has to deal with a bully who is assigned as his "book buddy." This book could help adults open conversations with their kids about these kinds of issues that are a big part of the world to children. I have shopped here, often. I find their cashiers and other employees, both friendly and efficient. I have made many purchase here, and my most recent purchase, 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban' was quickly and wonderfully handled. I find that the books, at Books-A-Million, are well tended. The copy I purchased [along with all the other copies displayed] was in excellent condition. The employee, even took the time, to check through it, herself. To insure it's condition. No tears, in the dust cover, or smudges or other defacement, anywhere! This is by far my favorite from the series. It is a little different from the others which is why i find this a little refreshing, of course another year another Denfence Against the Dark Arts teacher, but this time it is a man who knew Harry's parents and he has a serious secret to hide. Harry, Ron and Hermione return to Hogwarts once again and this time the castle is surrounded by creatures who are there to suck the happiness from the air and all those around, forcing Harry to live rather horrible memories some of which he didn't know he had. On top of that some one has escaped from Azkaban prisoner and is thought to be wanting to kill Harry and was thought to be the one responsible to get James and Lily dead. This story is one of my favorite because you learn about James and Lily and who their friends were as well as well what they were like, for those who ae fans in this series this is one of the best in the series because it touches your heart more than some of others and you can't help but feel warm seeing harry discover how much like his parent's he truly is.rosalyn.b

This book is a continuation of the Harry Potter series. Harry goes to hogwarts, which is a school for wizards. A criminal is after him because he was falsely blamed for his parents murder. Plot twist, it’s not what you think. It’s such a good read that gives the reader an escape for a few hours.tianna.s

Really, this book is just fantastic. It may be a little boring at the start, but it is really interesting and exciting. I was actually amazed by how breathtaking it was. My Appraisal of the book Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief Written by Rick Riordan If you were wondering about this book and can't decide if you want to read it, I read it and maybe this will help you decide. This book tells the first story of the Percy Jackson Series. The story is mainly based on Greek mythology but with a modern twist. Read about the marvelous first adventure of main character Percy Jackson (a teen from Manhattan) and his friends as they fight monsters and try to keep peace between the Olympian gods. This story is full of action and adventure and will keep readers wanting more. This story won't let you down, except that there is more in the series, and you haven't read it all. yet. My kids are Dino fans. This is a cute book but because it has a compartment for the dinos and a playmat the book is really bulky. Would prefer if the mat and dinos came separately packed from the book so that the book is thinner.Bananalover

My grandson received this book as an infant. One of his all time favorites. I love to give it to other children and I think the adults enjoy reading it out loud. A true gem.betti

This series of 'Never Touch A…' has many compelling aspects for younger readers. Every page has a short poem, that usually rhymes. This is good for teaching your little one the rhythm of language. It also has different textures for the little listener to feel. (We are talking actual textures not the fuzzy books that have the same piece of felt with a different color on every page.) This is a great workbook. I got it for my son summer of 2018. I felt bad because I cant believe I expected my son to finish by end of summer. Poor kid but hey he didnt have any trouble entering 3rd grade. This 2019 I have the summer workbook for 3rd to 4th it is a much smaller book and a realistic goal to finish by end of summer.Ana

This is a great way to tutor your child with extra practice exercises. The workbook covers state standards for education. Of course, repetition is imperative to be sure your child grasps a concept, so you will still need extra practice drills for some learning concepts. This workbook covers elements of reading, writing, science, history, and math skills. One of the best things I like about it is the large number of word problems it offers for math. I highly recommend it for your child.JANE

I bought this for my son, we usually do some worksheets over the summer but with COVID closing schools early, I didn't want to take any chances. This book has an excellent assortment of skills and activities to help him remember how to read and do math!!! he doesn't even mind and that is saying something!! To be clear, this textbook is best for teachers of a variety of students. I purchased to homeschool my third grader & found it to be a waste of money. The amount of stories is very limited because the same reading selection is repeated 3 times in various levels of difficulty. Therefore, if you don’t have multiple students to accommodate, 2/3rds of the text is redundant. Also, each reading only has 1 question at the end to encourage critical thinking.Yoopermom

Do not make the mistake I made, and think you will "read a chapter or two" of this book before heading off to bed shortly after midnight. Although I tried several times to go to bed, I simply could not put the book down long enough to do so. Fortunately, I managed to read the entire book in just under three hours so sleep was not delayed too long into the morning hours, and I was not at all disappointed with the delay! While I am not certain I believe everything I read, I am definitely open to possibilities. Hey – I have never been to Heaven, and who I am to say what is and is not accurate. Many of the things described do match my expectations and many more I have never considered (just like Colton's father). For example, some may find it disconcerting to learn that Colton saw Satan in Heaven. I had not expected that myself. However, it did not really surprise me once I thought about it. In Job 1:6 we read, "Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them." Clearly Satan does appear before the Lord, and I would assume that would be in Heaven. I was also not surprised to read of Colton's miscarried sister and father's grandfather introducing themselves to him. Or of his having information that he could not have known at such a young age without having seen it firsthand (Jesus having "markers" – the wounds of the crucifixion, Jesus sitting at the right hand of God, the pearls on the gates of heaven, the thrones, the crowns…..). Whether you believe in NDE (near death experiences) or not, this book is enlightening, easy to read, and captivating. It is a story that will open your mind to possibilities and start you thinking if nothing else. And maybe, just maybe, it will open your heart to a message that God is trying to tell you through a small child who sat on the lap of Jesus while his daddy yelled at God, God listened, and Colton returned to tell his daddy that God answered that prayer.happy2beHis

A well-written account, compelling in it's innocence. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone with any interest in Heaven – regardless of one's religion. I have to say, however,that I am always astonished at the gullibility of lay persons who give in to the callous disregard of many physicians. It was difficult to read of this child's suffering without standing up and shouting,"What in the world is the matter with all of you?" I wanted to rage against the doctors for their incompetence and at the parents for just knuckling under to them when Todd was so plainly DYING right under their noses. Of course, that's probably just exactly the response they were hoping to provoke in the reader-makes for excellent drama, and without everything happening just as it did, the story would not have been told at all. God does indeed, work in mysterious ways! I read a book years ago entitled, My Glimpse of Eternity, by Betty Malz (I think I have all this correct), which contained a similarly amazing account of the healing she obtained while in the presence of Jesus in heaven. Proof of her experience was documented by the surgeons who observed that many of her internal organs had been ravaged into non-existence by overwhelming gangrenous infection; however, when she was found to be alive (after a sheet had been placed over her face and she had been pronounced dead)all those organs that had been pools of black goo (intestines, kidneys, reproductive tract, etc.)began to function normally even as the doctors were telling her family that she would never be able to eat, urinate, conceive, etc., normally again.She then ate a meal and had a normal bowel movement, voided normally, and several years after this incident she gave birth to a normal, healthy baby girl. Some hospital records were provided to give credence to this report, I believe. It was a good, faith-building read – couldn't put it down til the last word! This one is quite similar in theme, but the story itself unfolds quite a bit differently. Read this – you'll be amazed and delighted in the end!wrenrose07

Great book, could not put it down. Read it in two sittings and I am not a reader. It is not just a story about Heaven it is also a story for any parent who loves their child. For me it was two stories in one. Both equally worth the read, without giving up the whole story line it starts off with the parents trying to get their child well when the normal things are just not working. The second half is Colton's story of what he sees and experiences. Well worth the time to read this one. Might even help to answers some of those life's questions we all have a times in our lives. Very cool book. Enjoy it!idusa78
