Reviews:
This is a beautiful hard cover book containing what many would consider essentials (practical knowledge) for boys preparing for life. It may have some conservative views in it, which it okay with me. Overall, it is just very basic, practical information that many families are too busy these days to pass on. I originally bought it for an 8 year old boy. However, once I had the book in hand, I realized that it was more appropriate for a boy of 12 or or older. I liked the book too much to return it, so I am keeping to read and/or to give as a gift when the right opportunity presents itself. This is a high quality purchase for which I paid only $8.99! What a value!Olive
great book for boys – grandsons and great grandsons – excellent content for all youth – girls or boys\ from Invictus – "it matters not how straight the gate – how charged with punishments the scroll – I am the master of my fate – the captain of my soul." this is something worth remembering and repeating and sharing with our young people.sleepyswan

Reviews:
Very good! True story, written well, and suitable for young readers.mruth801
This is a moving, page turning biography of one of the boys in the boat which beat the Germans at the Olympics in Germany. From being a 15 year old boy left behind by his father when he moves away with his stepmother to attending university while holding down jobs so he can eat and pay board this story is inspiring and the hardships he had to endure made me realise how lucky I am. The adult novel is told in great depth and with lots of history of WWII and the Great Depression in America . As such this version is probably only half as good to read, but if you are not able to read the long version, this is still a great story.amandaPanda
I read it as a Bookclub read we all LOVED it. Then bought it for my 13 yr old grandson whos reading it now.marye2172a4s

Reviews:
Children, especially boys, need heroes to inspire them. Unfortunately, many (though not all) present-day individuals to whom kids might look for heroes, such as sports figures, movie stars, and musicians, may often leave something to be desired. 50 Real Heroes for Boys is designed to show young boys everywhere that being a man only requires being themselves- -but their best selves. Some of the heroes mentioned are men, like Jackie Robinson who used courage to break barriers in sports, and women like Marie Curie who helped to discover radioactivity; well known folks, such as Eleanor Roosevelt who was the wife of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and not so well known figures, such as Caesar Rodney who voted for the Declaration of Independence; and historical people including Ludwig van Beethoven who composed some of the world's greatest music while deaf, and modern personalities including Dav Pilkey who used perseverance to push through dyslexia and become one of the world's most successful children's book authors. Both American and international persons are found. Even William Tyndale, who was put to death for translating the Bible into English, and William Wilberforce, who helped to rid the civilized world from the evils of slavery, are here. Each character is identified by the "special powers"-courage, creativity, curiosity, humor, forgiveness, integrity, justice, and more-which he or she used to make the world a better place. These true stories written by marriage and family therapist Christy Monson are accompanied by bright, colorful, full-page portraits from over a dozen international artists. The dozens of stories about women make the book suitable for girls as well as the whole family, but the emphasis is upon reminding boys everywhere what true masculinity is all about, because boys can have women heroes, too. Everyone can learn something from this book. Homeschool families can use each hero as a weekly project for the kids to research.Home School Book Review

Gave my 8 yr old grandson an interest in reading stories.unnbeatabledeal
I'm really impressed with the Fly Guy books as they are such a great book for young boys who have just started reading. It's hard to get hold of fun stories that have text that is able to be read by a beginning reader without relying on special graded readers provided by schools. It's so motivating for my son to be able to read a chapter book (the books are only short but are divided into 3 chapters). The illustrations are fun and the story lines are entertaining.

Reviews:
What a wonderful series for preteens/teens. My 9 yr old grandson received 5 different books recently in the series and has read each book at least 2 times and I normally cannot get him to read a book. I LOVE this series. He has also seen the movies and loves them too. Yay! He is reading!!!!scar8518
The title of the book speaks volumes: "Diary of a Wimpy Kid." It caught me off guard at first and I was a little hesitant to even give it a second look. However, there was something about the stick-figured illustrations on the front of the book that tugged at my soul. On a whim I decided to place my bid on this book. After waiting (I must admit I did loose quite a bit of sleep over this) for the bidding to end, I found myself in a state of jubilation once I realized that I had won. I immediately called all my immediate family members as well as my neighbors and clergyman. It was an occasion that I wanted to share with everybody! When I received the book it was like a religious experience. I opened my mailbox and immediately started to shake; probably out of excitement. As soon as I touched the package, I felt a pulse of energy surge through my body and everything around me became clear. As I walked back to the house, hundreds of different thoughts rushed through my head. Alas, the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" had finally arrived. I opened the package and when I removed the book my knees buckled and gave way. I found myself on my knees on my kitchen floor crying tears of joy as I began reading the book. Since then, I have looked back at that single day as the most life changing experience I have ever had. It has turned me into a new person and for that I am grateful.ricanus21
My whole family loves this book. It's funny and they even made a movie about it which was even funnier. My son is always reading this book and talking about how funny it is. It's funny because Rodrick tortures Greg by threatening to post a video about him in leisure towers with only his underwear on. But in the end Greg convinced his mom to let Rodrick play in the talent show with his band even though Rodrick was not allowed to play in the talent show. Greg conviced his mom to let Rodrick play in the talent show by letting Rowley use Greg in the talent show.

Reviews:
So everyone in my household is beyond the demographic for this book, but we loved the movie so I was curious to see how the source material fared. Honestly, I think the movie treated the material better. The book was fun, and it was nice to see the thought of "turning good" being the bad guy's instead of some other character, but overall the way the events were portrayed in the book simply weren't as entertaining as the film. I wasn't too keen on the art style, either.Eric
My 8 yo is not a bad reader but not keen on heavy reading. These books are mostly pictures. There's very little text at all on each page. For instance, one page may have a picture with the word "Boom" in large letters all over it. But it's very engaging and fun with the result that she might read 3 books in an evening. So get them all.Nil
